Re:I feel a slight sense of jealousy
That's interesting. I suppose that you could make it a lot cheaper if you used the right kind of cooling...I just wonder what the local effects would be if you pumped the entire datacenter's heat output into the surrounding rocks. I wonder if they'd be able to keep up, or if their ambient temperature would end up being much higher.
Interesting idea, I just wouldn't want to experiment with a datacenter. I do dig the idea of housing computers in a missile silo, though. You've just got to watch out for Deep Crows

Re:Need a way to un-highlight
> it will automatically unindent it to the correct place
It totally depends on the definition of 'correct'; it is often defined by the organisation for which you work. For example (although this is C++ rather than C, the same point applies) Qt has a particular 'style', and Symbian another, even though they're both C++.
However, it is possible to write your own indent rules. See here for an example (which is actually broken, but anyway) :
http://vim.wikia.com/wiki/Indenting_for_Qt_C%2B%2B
and it's likely worthwhile spending some time developing the rules, esp. if there are more than just one of you using vim.

ClownColors!!!!
Why bother asking slashdot when all the best Vim tips have been collected and compiled? http://vim.wikia.com/wiki/Best_Vim_Tips
Because..drum roll.. Vim has a syntax file for your favorite language..
You can customize if for your coding style... especially for things that you make wiked mistakes on..
for example:if (x=y){do some code;}
any c programmer will see the mistake pretty quick.
but once it's in thousands of lines of code,, its a bear to find.
with clown colors you set the color of the = to bright purple, and the parens to yellow. set == to orange.. so that your eye catches a painful clash when you type something stupid..for the common typos that I make.. I set it to INVERSE... so retrun x; get fixed before get to the next line.
some of the common variable names I use get colorized so that I can recognize the specific variables...
So a common for loop that you code without blinking has a "color signature" that lets you know it's your normal.
fantastic crutch..Storm

You can reset your specific "make" command in vim, and you can also tweak the error format. This page shows an example of that:

Warning! Offtopic post!
Rhythmbox isn't but I can't stand those silly sideways tabs in Amarok.
Perhaps take a look into MPD. It has various clients that can connect to it and control it.
I personally use Sonata. It's simple and fits my needs.

Try mpd (music player daemon)
This may be a little off-topic, but I'd like to recommend mpd.
mpd (music player daemon) is a minimalistic audio-playing server that can be accessed using a variety of clients, including those with command-line, web, and GUI interfaces.
Separating the GUI from the core of the audio player increases stability and decreases the chance for problems. I've never once had the mpd core crash, even though the GUI clients do sometimes crash. When my X server dies for whatever reason, my music continues playing while I fix things!
Additionally, you can do some very cool things, like copying or moving the mpd player state between networked computers. For instance, with the command 'mpmv desktop tvserver', I can move the currently playing song, the current position in the song, and the current playlist. With some occupancy sensors, your music can literally follow you around the house
My favorite GUI client is QMPDClient. It has a very powerful music library interface, including a: playlist; a queue within the playlist (to jump around the playlist); library, directory, and playlist views, with artist/album/track views. This is excellent, because I keep my music directories well organized, so the "Directory" view lets me take advantage of this easily (a feature that I've not found in other music library clients).
And yes, mpd does work on MacOS

Frame-based physics
[Game physics engine basing its time quantum on the frame rate] hasn't been true for a long time.
Plenty of games still have frame-based physics, including Ti and Brawl. In Melee, characters were even made heavier or lighter.

Re:FREEOWW!!!
Yeah, I saw that. My karma can take a beating so I don't care, but it irks me that there are so many MSCEs with such low self esteem that they would mod any comment unfavorable to Microsoft, no matter how valid, reasoned, concise, and polite, as "flamebait" and "troll".
I guess Bill Gates (as quoted by uncyclopedia in the "slashdot country" entry) was wrong when he said "Netcraft confirms it - Slashdot *is* filled with Linux fanboys." because every time I say something positive about Linux, or have the slightest criticism of Microsoft or any of its products, the hordes of astroturfers decend.
I'd say it's full of MSCEs with low self esteem. Poor kids.

Re:There's only one way to make DRM really invisib
And backed by Sony? That puts it on my personal blacklist right away.
You should have seen (well maybe you did) the rant I posted on my now-defunct site about XCP. My daughter worked at a record store (since bankrupt, labels say copyright infringement, I say boycott) and put a Sony-BMG CD in the PC, which had autostart disabled, but she trusted the label to not put nasty shit on her dad's computer and ran it.
I had wipe the drive (thankfully I keep data on a different drive from OS and apps) to reinstall Windows, and couldn't find my driver CDs for my video card or sound chip. The video card mfg no longer supported 98 so I had to buy XP, and an Audigy. It cost me almost two hundred dollars, plus an afternoon of my time.
The rant's title was (in caps, with the sord "die" in red) "SONY MUST DIE!!!"
If I did to their computers what they did to mine, I'd be in prison.
I think you'll like Uncyclopedia's take on DRM.

Transformers??
I still remember the first time I accidentally stumbled onto MUDs (MUSHes in particular) via gopher on CapAccess (a sort of proto-internet service run by the local PBS station in Virginia).
That's when I discovered Transformer: 2005 MUSH. Aaaaaaaaaaand... 13 years later, yeah, I still play. A lot. There's just something about a text-based game that you don't get from this modern fancy-pants MMOs. There, I said it!
tf2005.net 5555 for those that are curious to see one of the longest-running PennMUSH games in existence. :)
I also appreciate all the awesome MUDs being posted here... I think it's time I revisited that particular part of the MU* universe. -

Re:Fuel economy
Your engine is connected to the tarns via a fluid coupler (Tourq (sp) converter) You get no more braking by shifting to a lower gear then the guy in the car next to you.
What are you talking about? Down shifting an automatic does give you engine braking. The transmission is prevented from shifting up to the next gear so the wheels are trying to turn the engine at a faster rate.
From wika:When running down a long downgrade that would require braking simply select a lower gear (for automatic transmissions this may necessitate a brief application of the throttle after selecting the gear).
They use wikikpedia as a reference so it must be true;-)

In Case Of...
NASA wants to know if he can heal himself or provide resurrection to the other astronauts in case the experiments goes awry.
So... he'll be testing a gray direct healing disc. (It's all he can buy from a vendor; he might get a better one as a reward after he completes the mission, but not before.) He'll need at least three pumps in tools skill to be able to use it to resurrect someone, though.
I doubt they'll let him pack a suit of bio armor; that would be way over the 300 g personal item mass limit.
