You're the type who sees something horrible and runs to the internet to say "don't forget about me today." Note: both Jeselnik and I grew up in Pittsburgh. Know that we both (as evidenced by his stand up) view you as someone happy to stand on another's grave to promote your own self interests. I've met one of the victims before she passed. I know others who lost family. Don't do your sanctimonious platitudes now. You're not helping.

Re:Good comment
RE Steve bing a dick:
1) Women have a preeeetty good idea who they give birth to. Men - not so much. Before reliable DNA testing, rejecting the idea that you are someone's father when you really don't think you are isn't so unreasonable.
2) It's funny how these "Steve is a dick" anecdotes always seem to go back to the Reagan Administration - or earlier. If the guy was such a ragging shitheel, you'd think he would have give his hate club more material to work with since he went back to Apple in the late 90's.

Remember Pentium IV ?
AMD chips are also great for frying eggs.
Which is a pretty easy trick to achieve given that egg protein already start to precipitate somewhere north of 50~60C - you could achieve the same with the warm water of your faucet, try it ! Note that the egg will not have been thoroughly cooked at a high enough temperature and will not be sterilized : it might not be safe to eat due to bacterial risks.
You could do the same trick as the video with any piece of electronic more beefy that a raspberry piAnd while digging at old stuff, Intel was at the recieving end of such jokes back in the Pentium4 vs Athlon&Opteron 64 era.
(Also, since when are AMD motherboards paired with intel NICs? That seems weird to me...)

Re:You're lying
I'm telling the truth. The study in question is titled, "Extratropical Northern Hemisphere Tree Ring Temperature Reconstruction." You can listen to Mann's roundabout way to justify the cherry picking here: In His Own Words. You can download the tree ring data from NOAA here: Extratropical Northern Hemisphere Tree Ring Temperature Reconstruction. It even comes with the divergent temperature calculated for you. I can even show you how to process the temperature data from the GHCN Daily here: GHCN. It's really rather easy, and if you bothered to figure out the temperature for the US yourself you'd be just as confused as to why Mann's red line is so far off. You can stick your head in the sand, and call me a lier, but it won't change the facts.

Re:VR is nauseating
The jury is out on "most people still get sick" as there are no real comprehensive studies yet... Also, not everybody gets sick for the same reasons as there are many of factors that can contribute to VR sickness.
Motion to photon is the time it takes to move in the real world and have it show up on the screen. If it's too large you generally get sick.... The wise John Carmack has stated he believes 20ms is the critical threshold for motion to photon latency. Stay under 20ms and avoid artificial locomotion and the majority of users won't get sick in VR. Gen1 PCVR runs at 90fps so that means at best you're motion to photon should be 11ms but with clever algorithms you can actually do way better than that. VR sickness from large motion to photon latency is considered to be a solved problem.
Currently the more prominent reason for people getting sick in VR is artificial locomotion. For me if I limit joystick movement to translations (no rotations) I generally won't get sick. Even this isn't a universal solution for me as each game affects me differently. Some games I can zip around at high speed without issue where others just moving at a crawl causes issues. It isn't quite understood why but it is believed how you accelerate (not just top speed) the camera has an significant impact.
There is also a concept of developing "VR legs" where over time you become less susceptible to VR sickness. I believe there is some validity to this as when I first stared using VR any artificial locomotion made me ill in under 5 minutes where now I can play many games for hours on end without issue. I can also do some rotation movement where a little bit of yaw and pitch is fine although if you roll the camera I still feel it almost instantly.
There are studies that show giving the user an artificial nose, cockpit, or any foreground object that is stationary relative to the movement, reduces motion sickness. Google has used a technique in Google Earth VR where they artificially reduce the users field of view anytime the camera moves and it has also been shown to reduce motion sickness in many users, myself included.
There are some great examples of games use very unique locomotion techniques that should make most users sick but don't.... People still get sick in VR, even I do from time to time, but we are getting much better at preventing it from happening.

Re:Poor creimer.
This is probably the same AC who called me a pedophile for posting a video of a children band from an art and wine festival and probably posted the URL on 8Chan. That video got 25 hours of watch time with 95% of the views coming from outside the United States and the top three countries (Ukraine, Brazil and Colombia) are known sex tourist destinations. YouTube creator support is still investigating that situation.
Sex trafficking is a serious problem that no one wants to talk about. There are some Silicon Valley engineers and ex-military men who will save up their money, retire to a foreign country, and a marry a "sweet young thing" (presumably 16 years old) with the village's permission. However, you don't have to go to a foreign country to marry a child because 27 states in the United States allow child marriages.
We as a society need to outlaw child marriages. Anyone who argues against outlawing child marriages is probably a pedophile.

Omnidirectional treadmills are already here. Getting them https://youtu.be/fvu5FxKuqdQ?t...">small enough for the home use getting close. The major hiccup (other than cost) is prediction algorithms that keep forces on the user low with a reduced area.
They have some pretty amazing VR gloves prototypes that are capable of simulating temperature changes and let you feel and grip virtual objects. Obviously a ways away for the consumer as costs and size are an issue but expect cheaper, less bulking/feature rich solutions soon. Even soon still are hybrid controller Knuckles from Valve that are quite impressive.
There are full body haptics and motion rigs both affordable and portable also coming very soon.
VR is getting interesting.

Here's a study of a recent example of fake outrage over the new Doom game: https://youtu.be/l63nY0AYebI [youtu.be]
Study? Did you get the link wrong or just didn't watch what you link?
The link leads to a response video by some dude on the Internet. It falls into the same category as all the people who respond to Anita Sarkeesian videos back in the day, telling her how all her criticism of video game is anything from innocently mistaken to deliberately spun as part of some feminazi agenda.
You know, the same kind of response videos Carl Benjamin does, who gets called out in that video... which is funny, because one accusation the video made is that all these "meta-outrage" folks all said the same thing, almost verbatim, and that insinuates some kind of conspiracy/fake outrage
You know where I heard this same argument before? GamerGate, where the accusation from GamerGate is that all these gaming journal sites all write articles about the same thing about "gamers" around the same time, and that insinuates some kind of conspiracy/fake outrage at sexism in video games.

I'm serious, you have to see this weirdness that the Finns are getting up to.
-
Re:The truth
The "outrage" over the NPC meme is fake, and a great example of how fake news can be divisive. In this case the fake news is from the meta-outrage industry, the one that puts out YouTube videos and articles about triggered SJWs and leftists going berserk. Some channels, like Carl Benjamin's, get views into the millions on those videos, not to mention Patreon, so they are quite lucrative.
Here's a study of a recent example of fake outrage over the new Doom game: https://youtu.be/l63nY0AYebI
You can see that a single tweet mentioning that the humour in the trailer was a bit off from someone otherwise excited about the game spawned at least 64 almost identical videos (how could they not be given the meagre source material) and claims of mass outrage and triggering.
Please stop repeating this stuff. All you are doing is driving the wedge between people who think of themselves as conservatives/rational and everyone else in deeper.

Re:Cue the 0.01% of users who "need" RSS
Which news story of the last 20 years inspired your video of a water fountain?
No news story for that video. I took a bus from Eastridge Mall to downtown San Jose, noticed the new water fountain at San Jose City Hall when the bus drove past it, got off the bus and recorded video. The water fountain wasn't there in 2014 when I went to city hall to save the Century 21 from demolition.
Or kids milling around an Apple store?
The Apple Park Visitor Center was a brand new Apple Store last year. Because it was located on the backside of the Apple Park campus and among other April corporate buildings, it was the least crowded Apple Store on Black Friday. That won't be true this Black Friday. Especially since iJustine did a video visiting the Apple Stores at Infinite Loop and Apple Park.

Re:What does it do if you remove all gender?
We already know what it is:
https://youtu.be/v_pQ7KXv0o0?t...It is a misunderstanding as to how to make statistics.
The original gender pay gap that they've basically been itterating on ever since conflated secretaries at coal mines with coal miners...
Noting that the coal miners and secretaries both worked at the same company and the men made more.
Never mind they were literally dying of black lung 500 feet under the earth in a grimy hole whilst the women were in casual professional dress in clean offices answering phones.
There is about as much science behind it as Christian Creationism.
Go into the math and methodology. It is intellectually bankrupt.
-
Re:What does it do if you remove all gender?
Again, why would a rules based system even consider those variables?
Sure, a machine learning system could do that but those are badly suited to this sort of task in the first place.
If I have a rules based system and it is looking at 500 known variables let us say... and none of them are gendered...
Let us just cut to the chase here, is there any situation where you'd accept more men than women being hired statistically? I mean, is the only acceptable answer for why that would happen "sexism"?
Why are there more male lumber jacks?
Why are their more male crab fishermen?
Why isn't that sexist?
Just because some people find a given job desirable because it has a high pay check doesn't mean they are qualified for it or even want it once they get it.
Lots of women get into these STEM jobs and then quit. Much more often then men.
And here people will again say "sexism" but that isn't what the women say typically. What they say is that the job is boring or has long hours or is socially isolating or something.
And that doesn't mean the company is sexist.
A big tell on this matter is that you only see this huge gender imbalance in RICH countries.
Which is 180 degrees from what you'd think. Wouldn't you think India and China were more sexist?
And why is it that the more options women have they more these gender imbalances build up?
Point blank, women clearly are self selection out of these industries. The data bears that out.
That being the case, you have to refactor your statistics to not take into consideration the ratio of males to females in society at large but rather the ratio of males to female that want to do this job... that is exclude women that don't want to do the work from the female population.
Likewise exclude the men on the same criteria.
And whilst you're at it, it can be stomached... exclude everyone of any gender that doesn't have the qualifications.
If you have neither the interest nor the aptitude then you can't be considered in the general statistics for the avaliable labor pool for that job. Because you are not interested in the job... therefore no avaliable for it... and will not apply for it or will not remain in that job if hired... and IF not qualified then you will fail that criteria of job application and thus should be screened from the overall statistics again.
This whole thing is basically ideological people using statistics deceitfully. Examples of this on this issue go back at least to the 1970s.
https://youtu.be/v_pQ7KXv0o0?t...
I mean, this is just fundamental. They've been playing with numbers and lying in really stupid ways for a long time.
Can we at least acknowledge that many accusations of sexism and racism are without integrity? Is it possible to acknowledge the obvious here?
We have a lot of people pushing for equality of outcome. That is unreasonable. They can't have equality of outcome and they won't get it.
And if that makes them unhappy, then that is their choice.
Close the book on it and move on.
