Well, I wasn't going to watch either (Yet-Another-Stupid-Paywall) but a friend had CBS access and they _still_ chose to download the torrents so they could watch it across ALL their devices. (Go Figure!) I borrowed their USB stick so I could watch it on my 60" Plasma.
I 99% agree with Midnight's Edge's analysis, and RedLetterMedia's review about STD:ADHD.
If CBS hadn't been trying to leech onto the Star Trek name I think more fans would be wiling to cut it some slack as just another "Sci-Fi" show. But going back and rewriting history is a slap in the face to many fans. This is one of the same reasons Enterprise failed -- show us something NEW _past_ Picard.
It is interesting to note that according to Rotten Tomatoes fans only give it 60% while the spiritual successor to Trek, The Orville has 90%.

Is is it true that it still takes more energy to fab the silicon, make the frames, and deploy the panels than they ever get back in their operational lifetime?
Although I'm sure Exxon would like that misinformation to stay popular, that question was put to rest long ago, both in terms of the panels themselves and the PV industry as a whole. And that's reaching back to pay for panel development when production was inefficient.

I think that that's something that can never be lost in Trek. I think once you lose that, you lose the essence of what Star Trek is.
That being said, we live in a very troubled times and every day we look at the news and it's hard. It's hard to see what we see and I think that now more than ever, Trek is needed as a reminder and a buoy for what we can be, the best of who we can be.
That mantle has been given to The Orville which is the spiritual successor to Trek IMHO. Episodes 3 and 4 of the Orville are classic Trek themes.

1960's Flying Pulpit aka Wasp
They had a cool jet engine 1 man flying machine, standing up. Made in the 60's for the military, but the shorter fly time and 1 person cargo, wasn't as useful as a chopper. Imagine the technology in 50 years could update this flying machine.

Security keys can't be duplicated. They're made with military-grade hardware that costs like $5 and resists fault injections and physical assault, so retrieving the key is impossible with current technology.
I recommended the same thing for identity theft (YouTube). That involves legislation allowing regulation which drives the current consumer-grade (i.e. affordable) technology into requirement without requiring an act of Congress every time the current technology becomes obsolete and vulnerable.

This is connected to a Kickstarter project
After attempting to read through the 100 million lines of article I gave up around the point where they started talking about writing flowcharts to represent code. But they did mention this was connected to a Kickstarter project called Light Table (which apparently somehow inspired Apple's Swift??). So I watched the kickstarter video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?... ) and the kickstarter page ( https://www.kickstarter.com/pr... ) and I still don't have a clue what it is, what is new about it, or how it makes programming unnecessary. Are we supposed to be spending writing tools that write programs instead of writing programs? Aren't we already doing that?
Maybe someone with an entire day of their time can read the article and decipher what it is they are talking about.
It sounds to me more like they are making code harder than it actually is. -
