I'm not an American but having followed and participated in quite a few discussions about Trump and Trump supporters, here's the challenge with this: generally speaking anyone with enough intelligence can understand your point is correct, and that simply launching insults at people is not going to change anyone's mind.

But that's just it; to understand the value of civility and focusing on factual discussion instead of personal traits requires some education. The trump-base at this point consist of mostly uneducated people many of whom think for example that repealing Obamacare is a good thing when they're relying on it themselves but simply do not realize that the affordable care act and 'Obamacare' are one and the same thing. These are often extremely mis and disinformed people who are very easily manipulated with outright lies as their capability and willingness to do fact-checking is highly limited, which is why they're easy prey for all sorts of conspiracy theorists á la Alex turning the freaking frogs gay' Jones.

Now then, obviously mocking these people won't make them any smarter or get them to realize their errors, so doing that is a waste of time and resources. However at the same time 'understanding and compromising' is not something they're really all that capable of at this point because trump has effectively put them in this mindset of 'winning' vs 'losing'. In their minds, the 'losers' from the 'fake news' outlets are outraged that Trump won and are trying to sabotage him from every angle, so obviously the news are going to report negative things about him but that's just because they don't want him to "win." Like the conspiracy theorists, it doesn't really mater how much data you present to them to try and show them they're wrong because they' quite naturally ignore evidence that runs contrary to their understanding. Confirmation bias combined with Dunning-Kruger effect (Trump supporters largely overestimating their own knowledge and abilities) and curse of knowledge where the non-Trump side assumes that the Trump supporters have all the skills available to be able to understand why the concept of say climate change is not 'a Chinese conspiracy to make American corporations less competitive' as Trump claimed if someone just hands them the facts. But that's not how it goes, and anyone who's ever debated a conspiracy theorist or been one himself will know this.

In short: as long as you have a president in charge of the country whose main rhetorical devices are lying, insults and obfuscation, I'm afraid expecting the general level of political discussion to elevate itself to a higher level is probably futile. The only long lasting answer is to educate the poor people more, which the Trump administration certainly is not going to do because it thrives on ignorance.

I'm of the firm belief that every traffic jam begins with one arsehole who refuses to follow the rules (whether these rules be the Highway code, courtesy or common sense).

Here in the UK, we're fairly intolerant of bad drivers. Even though, we still have people who think that the rules don't apply to them, Middle Lane Morons, the 40 Everywhere crowd, lane hoggers and rolling roadblocks (usually in a retirement spec Honda Jizz or Pug 208) and of course cyclists. I often imagine that these traffic impediments are somewhat organised, I call them SAGA, the Society Against Getting Anywhere (analogous to the US Anti-Destination League or ADL). Ultimately, traffic problems stem from selfishness, people refuse to merge properly (like a zip, so let the guy beside you in instead of riding up the trumpet of the car in front), fail to indicate, drive aggressively or fail to keep pace with the prevailing traffic.

Courtesy and the highway code stop a lot of traffic jams, in fact almost all of them but it only takes one arsehole to think "Fuck you, I got mine" or "I'm allowed to do 15 under, so everyone behind me can be dammed" to undermine all of it.

I recently went to the Goodwood Festival of Speed in southern England. As you can imagine, it was frequented mainly by motoring enthusiasts. Getting out of that car park was the smoothest operation of public vehicles I've ever seen. Everyone knew just what to do. Mr Ford, let in Mr Kia, Mr Subaru behind him let Mr Ford pass and Mr BMW let in Mr Subaru. A huge volume of departing cars flowed with a quick and measured pace because everyone knew the rules. It was order, however as soon as we were out on the public road with the members of SAGA, everything fell apart. We had to contend with people who didn't know how or want to drive with the flow of traffic, people who were too selfish to be courteous, cyclists who were too angry to permit faster traffic to pass them. Outside, outside of that car park of motoring enthusiasts, it was chaos.

India's problem is that there are no rules enforced, no highway code, no courtesy and no common sense. Combine that with the kind of fatalistic culture that comes with a reincarnation religion and you've got a traffic nightmare. I cant see that changing any time soon.

When you mentioned Navy, I was thinking how we view our manned space program is extension of the Air Force. OK except that paradigm are airplanes not mobile much of the time, and their missions are very direct. Where ships are mobile almost all the time, cruising the seas. Airplanes are short occupancy time, ships are occupied months at a time. So we want spaceships but modeling them after airplane paradigm makes them short duration (Apollo, Shuttle, Orion, Dragon, etc). We should think of having something like ISS that goes someplace instead of circles, this would be the transit vehicle to go to Mars but nobody wants to talk about that because just too expensive. OK easy to write about airplanes vs ships paradigms, just saying.

They say i'm a good candidate for lasik but can't convince myself that the slight risk of major complications is worth not having to wear glasses.

Especially since wearing glasses has saved my eyes from damage in a few situations where I wasn't wearing safety glasses.

I can't wear contacts I don't blink enough they dry out and peel off when I blink I might try something like restasis and try it again sometime that didn't exist when I first tried contacts.

Hope your situation improves the only other thing I can recommend if you decide to go back to glasses again is getting one that has a 2 way hinge otherwise the flexing from putting it on your head will eventually cause the frame to break on the edge where the side connects.
