After my initial submission to parliament I've continued to analyze this Bill. My friends are interested in this however many of them didn't know what they could do, so I wrote this for them, detailing progress so far. I hope this helps anyone else trying to fight this really bad law.

Considering some of the question I got back I thought I would update you all about how this bad law is progressing. I'll attempt to answer your questions so that everyone is kept informed.

One friend suggested that he left the Communist states to escape this kind of surveillance.
Where it differs is that the Stasi only had capability to monitor 40 phone calls at a time. With modern technology it is quite easy to monitor every person by adapting the apps on our phones we use, when we talk to an AI (like Siri) or, friends on them.

Another friend pointed out that our Attorney General is making representations to the UK,US,NZ and Canadian Governments to pass these laws.
The issue for us is that corporate information technology has no interest in investing in countries that can potentially interfere with their operations. This is a direct attack on employment opportunities in Australia and will drive a lot of investment in Australia's economy to Singapore. What can these guys do with this law?
Well I haven't completed all of the analysis however this is what I've learned so far. Your phone, computer, tablet, home router and any vehicle computers can all be utilised to gather data on an individual. The telecommunications providers, the companies behind the websites you use can all be compelled to spy on you. Everything you do can be monitored. These are Front Door security holes, intended and by design.

This law also exposes Australian citizens to the laws from other countries, I've still getting my head around to how far it goes.

How will this affect my business?
Your business can be compelled to cooperate with the government to monitor individual. If you take a position where you protect privacy of your clients you are exposed to the liability for the government's actions. The govt can compel you to alter project deployments and comply with in a deadline. They can alter scope at will and your business is responsible for maintaining govt infrastructure until they no longer need it. Penalties exceed $250,000 per instance in addition to liability.

Is anyone else involved in this?
Yes, to my relief more and more people and organisations are becoming aware of this. Privacy focused organisations have started shifting their attention, which attracted the attention of some companies like Google and Apple. To my surprise Telstra, the NBN joined in the fight so that gives you some idea about the level of interference they anticipate. Some State government departments also starting to raise objections. I was in among the other private citizens that wrote objections to this bill. We need all the help we can get.

In simple terms, so even politicians can grasp it: Pass this bill and kiss R&D, finance and IT good bye.

I asserted those points in my critique of the bill I sent to the government. However you should keep in mind that Australia's Attorney General is currently in negations with all Five Eyes, Echelon, SIGINT countries to implement the same laws in those countries.

All these countries ministers were invited to the Gold Coast last month to discuss implementation in their respective countries.

From the article "it's an Intel ME option that desktop, server, laptop, or mobile OEMs can enable for Intel chips and use it for testing." Apple is the OEM, so it was Apple that wrongly configured these chips.

Not defending Intel's notorious management engine by any means, but let's point the finger at the guilty party in this case.

I'm already seeing Verizon 5G micro-towers going up in my area, Although they haven't announced availability in our area as of yet. Supposedly it's launching in Houston and LA in October.

So far, they're claiming 300Mbps with a 1Gbps Peak, and no data caps at $70/month. Although they're not saying anything about no throttling, but I'm sure they'll have something in place to throttle heavy users at peak times or at a certain data cap.

If they can truly deliver those speeds, especially with a light to zero touch throttling policy similar to Verizon FIOS, they will give cable serious competition and pretty much own the rural market with little to no competition other then other future 5G carriers. If they run it like Verizon Wireless and cap/throttle, it's lip service.

Linux development is in the open, there have already been multiple incidents about Linus' treatments as well as people leaving kernel development because of his outbursts. It's waiting for real accidents to happen, and that must be avoided (too much is invested in the kernel, and Linus may be the boss on the development side, there are others who are invested in it at several levels).

Turns out there is no rational input filtering from the digitizer allowing absurdly stupid superhuman rates of button presses to register. Couple that with crummy unlock dance and you have low probability events happening thousands of times per day that don't need to due to lack of attention to detail.

It's not that they are secretly recording you for no reason it's that wake word detection is not fit for purpose. To be blunt it sucks ass. It's incapable of effectively mitigating against uncommanded activation. They simply don't care enough to take the issue seriously. No way. It's all encrypted. Google speaker has half a gig of RAM. Low bitrate codecs with silence detection can store weeks of conversations easily and batch it out under cover of an actual activation or updates or any such shit.
