I inherited a DreamCast from a friend who never played her console, and I must say its one of the best I own. Whereas I don't like Sonic Adventure (gave me massive headaches), the other games it offers are supurb (I especially like the DC's sports games.. the controls just seem intuitive.. much more so than a PS2).
Sigh, if only there were enough time to build up a substantial library, what with the next gen upon us...
The guy who wrote that article is a fool. I quote:
"That's right, while Nintendo claims the Wii is at least twice as powerful as the Gamecube, I was finding it hard to see the upgrade. Zelda didn't look like an upgrade at all. "
Everybody knows that the Zelda game was designed as a Gamecube game, hence no upgrade in graphics.
I can't respect the reviewer for missing something as basic as that...
Yeah, aside from you know, the whole wireless controller-sensing-motion thing...
I think the idea is that Sony and Xbox have not been very innovative this generation. The systems are more expensive than anything since the 3DO/Jaguar days and all they really have is an upgrade on media format and a better processor for faster graphics.
I hate to tell you this, but any of the games companies could have done this.
PS3 graphics will be better than 360s. Why? The 360 technology is a year old already. That's just the way things work.
Nintendo simply has a different corporate strategy: try to determine what the inherent "fun" quality is in a game, and use that to innovate. Hence the development of the thumbstick, rumble, and now the wiimote.
So Sony and M$ are simply guilty of taking another's inventions and making them better. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I'm pretty sure we all want the innovating company like Nintendo out there to keep things new and fresh.
I'm curious where those of us who have been hardcore online gamers since '96 fit into this whole deal.. especially when we're playing the same games we played back then?:D
Its wishful thinking on his part. He's just a PS fanboy who hates to see another company win.
The ideal solution for all gamers would be for the Wii to be successful, forcing M$ and S to either copy them (most likely) or better yet, come up with some innovations of their own. By all means I hope Sony does well, but it seems they have s___ed the pooch on this one.
Yeah, that's another thing that many people haven't been thinking of. By not investing as much now in R&D to get the best graphics, Nintendo can afford to obtain the high def technology for a cheaper price, and will be able to affordably release another new system is less time.
The PS3 is going to have to be around forever, just to turn a profit and make an improved platform feasible.
Yeah, I definitely see games like "Red Steel" being targeted for kids and teenagers...
This is a better breakdown:
360 - For the traditional gamer
Wii - For the innovative gamer
PS3 - For the rich gamer
I can't arbitrarily agree with this. It really matters how the public takes the new Nintendo controller. If the Wiimote takes off, the Wii will take off, and Nintendo will dominate by gaining further third party support. Moreover, if people buy the Wii, they will be more inclined to go for the 360 as a second console. However, if Nintendo doesn't make the comeback, I'd agree that Sony will take the crown once again.
The console wars are either going to end up 1-Wii 2-X360 3-PS3 -or- 1-PS3 2-Wii 3-X360
My old NES is still going strong, 18 years later:)
Also have a SNES, 64, GC, DC, and Saturn.. they all work fine (even the Saturn which sat outside for 6 months exposed to the elements.)
Well, if you look the few titles mentioned were all by third parties. And in the article they hardly address the Sonic Wii game from the standpoint as if they actually played it.
Interesting nonetheless.
Wow dude... You know you don't have to get so worked up about these things. They are just games after all..
You'd think you thought these price discrepancies were a difference between life and death.
Wii Sports = more of a game than any other console is providing
Base system with a controller is all you need to play. That costs $271.50 for you. I don't really care if you are going to whine because you don't want to shell out $54 to get another game or $65 to get another controller. They are all perks anyway.
Thanks for pointing this out... I'm a 1L and we supposedly learned this already:)
Good time to review...
Oh yeah, and I agree with you.. I can't think of a way they could get relief, aside from the record industry laying off...
I know this is probably never going to be read, but I'll have a quick say anyway.
I believe the best and most civil forums have roughly 5-20 active participants. Any more and you just have fools who join strictly to post "all liberals hate America!" or "all conservatives are Nazis!" With a smaller community its much simpler to run because the extremists can always be bashed back into line (ie. www.tdtalk.com)

Cmon, that show is over 15 years old now :)

That's terrific.. Where are you from, the Tri-Cities?
:)
Salem, OR apparently had 15 people lined up at opening of EB for 8 machines. Good times.
I slept in
Wii preordering starts next week :)
Isn't it the point that he didnt really need to camp out at all?

Yet another reminder of why I hate Fox.
Its a sorry shame.

I like the name BluRay better, but HD DVD is gonna win out.

I don't think I'm the only one whose most anticipated title for the Wii is the revamped Duck Hunt
So the price will be $42, $2 more than the basic Wiimote? Interesting...
Sony had better hope Blu-ray takes off... Otherwise their stock is going to be worth nothing...
My old NES is still going strong, 18 years later :)

You forget how many PS2 owners have had to buy second and/or third consoles...
Well, if you look the few titles mentioned were all by third parties. And in the article they hardly address the Sonic Wii game from the standpoint as if they actually played it. Interesting nonetheless.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Nintendo wasn't even at the Tokyo game show, hence the reason they aren't predominantly on the list...

Anyway, good luck
Agreed.. Its almost as if Sony wants to see exactly how much they can screw over their fans and still get them to pay...
It will be interesting to see how Sony wakes up when they realize their failure.
