they aren't suing under DMCA in this case though, they're suing under trademark law.
Essentially I think the idea is that there's an Autodesk trademark in genuine autocad files, and creating a file with that trademark isn't allowed.
I could be wrong, but I'm thinking of it like this: Every document is signed at the end "Sincerely, AutoCad". If you make a document and don't sign it "Sincerely, Autocad" it's not a genuine autocad file.
If you DO sign it "Sincerely, Autocad", you're pretending you're AutoCad, and Autocad is a trademark.
It's really quite an ingenious way to get around existing legal allowances.
of course it's also presented as -different- bad news, if you think about it. It means they could have made it less powerful, cheaper, and easier to program for and there wouldn't be a difference because nobody will ever use the extra power
Most of the problem is with Bowling. The trick is this:
1. In bowling, you try to swing as hard as possible 2. At the bottom of your swing, you are told to release the B button. The B button is the index finger, and if you release it too much then you significantly lower the amount of grip you have. 3. If you lose your grip at the bottom, it'll head straight for the television.
It's still ridiculous but it's more understandable, knowing this.
Are you actually allowed to legally agree that a party is right in direct opposition of mathematical fact?
That.002 cents !=.002 dollars isn't decided between Verizon and it's customers, and I don't think any piece of paper that you sign that says otherwise should be valid.
PS3 supports analog composite, 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p. Xbox 360 supports the same, although 1080p was added in a patch (is that patch out yet?) Wii supports composite, and 480i and 480p.
ALl three consoles support 4:3 and 16:9, although the Wii's 16:9 at least I think is 'fake' 16:9 (it's a 4:3 signal with 16:9 aspect ratio, from what I hear)
Everything will work on an old set, and everything will look better on a new set.
There are a few situations where more choices is worse. Format wars, for instance, where both formats are more or less equivalent but just driven by different companies.
Is it just me, or do statements like that (and the fact that continual replication is possible on such a huge scale) seem like Linden really isn't thinking of this in terms of real-world programming, and more like movie virtual reality? That's not really a good thing.
Of course that problem exists even with completely discrete components when new pipelines come out.
To update my home machine's processor or video card, i have to replace the motherboard: - all faster processors worth the money to upgrade to use a different socket - All faster video cards worth the money to upgrade to are PCI Express
If I get a new video card, I have to get a new motherboard to support it, and then I have to get a new processor to fit in the new slot.
If I get a new CPU, I have to get a new motherboard to support that, and unless I waste the money and go for an AGP motherboard, or unless I find one of the extremely rare AGP+PCI Express dual motherboards, I have to buy a new video card for the new slot.
At this point I might as well buy a new machine and use the old one as a server.
One thing people neglect is that I dont think it's possible to go from a "Core" PS3 to a "Premium" PS3 by purchasing add-ons like you can with the Xbox 360. The difference between the 360s is only in the pack-ins, not in the box itself- but the difference between the PS3s isn't something you can change down the road.
Can you aim your gun at the floor and skip a bullet off of it in Metal Gear Solid?
It's funny you mention that, one of the bosses in MGS did exactly that.
Anyway ricochet shots are not common but they are around and have existed for years. Give the Flak Cannon in Unreal Tournament a try. It's basically a non-hitscan shotgun that bounces off walls. Or, the Tau/Gauss/Whatever it's actually called in the original Half-Life.
Do we even have hair that gets close to sitting on people's shoulders, rather than hovering six inches above it?
You wouldn't think it but hair physics is actually one of the hardest things to actually do. Remember Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within? We're nowhere near that in real-time yet, but that movie only had one character who had hair that moved for a very good reason. I heard all the shots with Aki in it costed like 3x as much or something like that, just because of the hair.
as for some of the other things: there hasn't really been much forward movement on two of what would otherwise be huge advances in 3D graphics: Voxels and Ray Tracing. Ray Tracing more than Voxels. If you don't think Voxels are important, think on this: Given a small enough voxel size, a featureless cube and a hugely detailed 3D surface take the same amount of voxels. Polygons scale up by surface area, but voxels scale up by -volume-.
Imagine a bunch of sword targets in a room that have to be hit sequentialy quickly while running in a specific direction. They'd be set up on whatever side the attack animations would be timed for, and i imagine the left and right horizontal swipes aren't exactly the same.
http://www.topwaycn.com/ Does anyone see anything on the site that is identifiable topway trade dress? Between the completley original barrel bongos and completely original dance pads and the controller (advertised as 'fully compatable with Guitar Hero' even though RedOctane says that's false), I dont understand what they're trying to prove? That RedOctane went back in time from the future where topway controllers rule all to steal the idea?

Touch Generation is a different marketing plan then the "Touch, you know you want to" style ads in the early DS lifespan. Touch Generation is the super-series of titles aimed at the more pedestrian non-gamer : things like Brain Age.
The strange thing is, there's no real reason for the third parties to do that. Look at Soul Calibur 2: the Gamecube version was the highest selling of the three (probably due to Link), but SC3 was PS2-only. WOuldn't you stick with what sold you the most copies?
Someone else has mentioned this but it bears mentioning again - The biggest jump in overall desirability between VHS and DVD and Tape to CDS wasn't the quality, it was the usability.
DVDs and CDS (generally) don't need to be flipped, don't get all messed up with the tape, aren't wiped out by magnets, are sturdier, last longer, have instant seek instead of being a purely linear format, take up less space in multiples, and don't need to be rewinded.
If it was just a higher quality but still on tape, it wouldn't have caught on as well as it did, I don't think. And what we have now is a higher quality but still on disc. Other than picture and sound quality there is no additional benefit, and this is why people just simply aren't caring about HD DVD and Blu-Ray.

Then just have www.home. alias home.
I've seen it done before.

Wow, what a name. Wonder how they came up with it? I guess they're just creative.
Nope, apparently they've been meteorong this whole time.
There are a few situations where more choices is worse. Format wars, for instance, where both formats are more or less equivalent but just driven by different companies.
There's a lot more Wii owners than PS3 owners, that's for sure.
Actually most reports CAN play games. Most of the time, the only thing that breaks is the online functionality.
if you are connecting to any internet features at all you have the latest update and you do not have the issue.

It's not theft in the sense of the word either.

100 is clearly a larger number than 0, that's all I'm saying.
100day vs 0day
Hmm, at least numbers are on their side.
I hear the number of anacondas has tripled in the last six months. Maybe that should be in the article?
