In an effort to drag a shred of on-topicness to this though, has anyone seen any proper specs on this device?
The best I've found so far is
According to the details, the tablet will come in three versions of 5, 7, and 9 inches display. It will be packed with 2 GB RAM memory, wi-fi connectivity, USB port and powered by a 2-watt system to suit poor power supply areas.
So, the third stage is to sign the enemy up for as many facebook/twitter alerts as possible and wait for the notification emails to dDoS their infrastructure?
without the name? It looks like exactly the same thing a few british ISPs are trying to implement at the moment - and the EU court of human rights is getting involved in that one.
That filthy, repulsive, immoral, giant bag of lard, ape-like, chair-throwing, semiliterate SON OF A BITCH Steve Ballmer should be in jail for this bullshit, because this kind of behaviour is criminal.
No don't hold back, tell us what you really think of him.
Its amazing how easy it is to sound right but be wrong
As has been pointed out before - ad nauseum - there are many many different distros out there. Some of them attempt to cover the same user demographic, but in reality, it is an overlap rather than a competition. It would be foolish to say Ubuntu is seriously competing for Red Hat's userbase. There is an overlap and in some cases it might be a large overlap, but it isn't really direct competition.
That said though, open source development is as far from communism as it is possible to get. If you write something, feel free to put it into the wild. If people like it, it will take off. If they don't, it becomes one of the projects festering away in the search results at sourceforge. You know the ones I mean, they are the ones which appear to have a massive relevancy for your search term, but haven't been worked on since 2002.
You don't get a more classic example of the free market than open source development. It is totally darwinian, if its fit for purpose and accessible, people find it and it lives. If not, it dies and becomes extinct - except for the sourceforge search results.
Australia has unique problems though as far as bandwidth is concerned. Geographically, it is awkward. There is only a limited amount of bandwidth travelling on physical links to Australia, which gives the owners of those cables opportunities to charge stupid amounts per MB/GB/TB.
That may be changing, but at the moment, there is only a relatively small number of data entry points to the country. Until that number rises or the bandwidth on those cables is increased, caps will remain in place there.
Hey I remember seeing some smurf porn recently. I have to say, nothing will ever compare to seeing two smurfs doing smurfette while whistling the theme tune.
It wasn't a cartoon either.
Don't get me wrong, I like Gnome and use it every day, but this answer "file a bug report" just doesn't wash all the time, particularly when upstream developers have this attitude of 'won't fix' something as simple as this.
It isn't just gnome developers who do this, I recall something similar with KDE4, where the lead developers refused to even talk about what they were doing much less respond to the users.
find the appropriate developer and send a detailed (and nice) bug report
doesn't work when the appropriate developer is being precious about the code.
That said though, this looks like a pretty good maintenance release with a few nice little features added in. It has no immediate benefit for me, but I can see how it can all be built upon, which is great.
Probably not much use to you in Australia, although this promotion was run in Australia at least once before. Not sure whether it is running now over there tho0ugh, I looked but couldn't find it.
Wouldn't normally recommend MS software for any reason, however I will probably be taking advantage of this one for my stepson, who is just starting to go through the interesting stage at high school, where he discovers what homework is and starts to realise the value of study. Fortunately, I'm also studying almost full time at the Open University, so shouldn't have too much trouble getting a copy. Since Cisco brought out a linux version of Packet Tracer, I don't need no stinkin' Microsoft on any of my computers.:=)
Of course, you could also tell her to just install the windows version of OOo 2.4 on her computer.
Bangra Steam Punk?

but I'm sure there is more out there. That info was found at http://androidos.in/2010/07/35-android-tablet-is-here-in-india-price-can-go-down-to-10/, for the sake of interest.
Oh I dunno, I've managed to be sacked by the Australian Public Service. Took a bit of work, but I did it.

GNU/Hookers?
I think I'm going to get one of those Windows Girlfriends.
I wouldn't. If it bluescreens at the wrong moment you could find yourself unable to install anything EVER AGAIN
Come on, one of you blokes has to invoke Godwins law now. It wouldn't be the internet unless you did.
So its a woman, in other words.
So we need to rename this event the "Lewinsky Event"?
without the name? It looks like exactly the same thing a few british ISPs are trying to implement at the moment - and the EU court of human rights is getting involved in that one.
Might I suggest:
2. Make everything pink
2.1 Give the system noises a lisp
3. Profit!
What if I get my screenreader to read it for me?
Oh my god, my head will explode!

Then of course we have that jewel of bad nineties music, "Achy Breaky Heart". Try getting that stuck in your head for a day.

So it IS cos I is black!
You bastards!

Have a look at the elonex webbook - ubuntu from the get go, although they are now shipping a windows xp version (which is a bit of a shame).
But on the bright side, you get a trip to cuba out of it!
Thats why you have to keep getting a new one.
Motherboard made by foxconn?
So, how will they respond to a bug report on fixing the screensaver configuration?
Probably not well.

If you know a student of have one in the house, you could always have a look at The Ultimate Steal (US Version) or the same thing in the UK.

Seems to me that as time goes by, Mozilla seem to be inserting their heads inch by inch, further up their arses
Sad really.
