    Even if you don't want to read the linked article, you should at least take a quick look of the summary quoted in Slashdot:

    It will be very hard to enforce. You can always accidentally 'lose' your phone or computer which contains those pictures. Then someone would 'inadvertently' post those pictures somewhere just for fun. It will be hard to prove that it is for revenge.

    It also has an added bonus that you now have a written proof of the conversions in the email trail. So they cannot deny that they never said this or that. It is important in some sectors of the corporate world.

    Your calculation is wrong. The Dow Jone increased by 11700/3200 = 3.66 times during Clinton's time. By using the same ratio, the DJ needs to reach 11700*3.66 = 42778 to tie the Clinton one.

    Your second point about Highway 67 is incorrect. A quick look at Google Map will show you that once Highway 67 reaches Marfa from the south, it turns 90 degree and merges with Highway 90 to run east/west.

    What if you have a collection of 500 CDs and you want to rip them and put them uncompressed into a computer to use as audio server? You do need a 300 GB+ hard drive and it is completely legally.

    Most retail stores (Bestbuy, Staples, etc.) does not allow refund of opened software. They basically assume that you are a software pirate if you return opened software package.

    I think the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk has just recently returned to its home port in Yokosuka, Japan. So it shouldn't take too much effort to put it into the striking position around the Japan Sea.

    However, the ATM also read in the card number and PIN whenever some people used it. If you could hack the ATM to store and retrieve these information by you, you could have stolen money from the victim's accounts.

    I think the CNN article said that the target area is 70 x 10 km and the crater is close to the center of this area. So it is possible that it could have a higher probability than the uniform distribution.

    Why not? Nowadays, most of the mainframes are used as the backend engine while companies are slowly converting the frontend (mostly CICS) programs to PC GUI clients. A XML parser in the mainframe could be very useful for passing data around (via MQ Series or DBConnect).

    Most IBM mainframes are using EBCDIC, not ASCII.

    The Deng Fong (East Wind) 31 and Julang (Great Wave) ICBM both have range of 7500 miles. The distance between Beijing and Lindon, Utah is about 6100 miles. So Utah is definitely within range of the Chinese nuclear arsenals. In addition, the Julang is designed to be launched in 'boomer'. So all of the continental US is under the Chinese nuclear threat.

    OK, let's do some calculations. It is estimated that the world has more than 20000 nuclear war heads (low estimate). The 50 kiloton bomb dropped in Japan killed more than 200000 people. Nowadays, most of the nuclear bombs are at least a megaton or more. They could easily kill a million or more people. So in theory, all these bombs could kill 20 billion people, which is 4 times the current total world population.
