I didn't read your original post, but you should know that in these parts saying something pro-microsoft is a sure way to get yourself modded up. I know that sounds far fetched considering that this is/., but it's true.
How is the parent comment insightful? It seems that the best way to get modded up is to type something like

If this were a story about MS...
LISTEN PEOPLE, the users of slashdot are not one single thinking entity, we, believe it or not, are many different people! Unless you can show us where the parent poster bashed MS for having bugs, don't post.
I see more posts on MS related threads saying something like the parent than I do MS bashing threads!
For the record, I used Redhat 7.2. It was not near as easy to install as people claimed. It was a bitch finding anything in it (everything starts in K for some reason), and getting it on the net was painful. The only thing I didn't have trouble with was installing Opera.
Hardly scientific.... let's both agree that we're full of shit, and have only single user stories to back up our claims.
Listen retard, you challenged people by saying that Rh can't do what Windows does, and many people countered it. You weren't very specific when you made your broad claim.
BTW, I've had more trouble with NICs in windows than I ever had in Linux, but again, that's not very scientific...
Listen idiot, he wasn't comparing them, he was making the point that the world wouldn't end if we lost a lot of things, but that doesn't mean that those things are not important.
Contrary to popular belief home schooling is not all that it's cracked to be. Part of education is learning social skills (something the stereotypical geek is lacking).
This is false because one gains social skills other places besides school.
For example, my sister, who is homeschooled is far more social than I am. I attended public/private schools my whole life.
Rhythmbox is coming along quite nicely, and the authors were wise in not using a name that could potentially cause problems (especially after the killustrator incident).
It's not ready for prime-time, but I hear it might be included in GNOME 2.2. So developers, if you like itunes-style playlist management, and like GNOME, try hacking on rhythmbox!
I believe it is a reference to a Mystery Science Theater episode in which Crow gains the superhero ability to calculate the number of chickens (or ducks) that can fit in a given space on a dime.
Ross Perot, I believe, got 18% of the vote in 1992, the media didn't pay too much attention to him, they let him go, but to their surprise, he did pretty well. Then in 1996, the attacks on his character started, and he was not allowed in the national debates (18% in the previous election wasn't enough to qualify him!).
I don't think it matters if someone like Nader gets higher %, because once he becomes a real threat, he'll be attacked and his character smeared (one thing you have to know as a pundit, is that if you cannot get any concrete information that is bad on someone, you call them "crazy.")
the people working on mono WANT to implement Windows Forms, they just have to do it. On their page it reads that they want to implement it with GTK+ on Unix platforms, and with Cocoa on OS X.
To clarify, I've never actually coded with SWT, but from what I understand, it implements more widgets than AWT. I was only refering to the widget availability, not how the toolkit works.
I don't know very much about.NET, but I think that there are plans for mono to implement Linux/MacOSX/Other versions of the Windows.Forms namespace....
Again, I am not completely sure what this is all about, but from what I've read, this would be similar to Java's AWT (though probably more advanced, like IBM's SWT which implements more advanced widgets even if the underlying toolkit doesn't support them).
But you're right, as it is, GTK# doesn't work on windows, but it might in the future.
But hey, it's a.NET app for linux, that in itself is interesting.
Editors, put your commentary in replies like the rest of us.
Why? Slashdot is a site where people post links to OTHER news stories, and people comment on said stories. It is not outrageous that the editors put their opinions in the story heading text. Their opinions are always easily distinguishable from the submitter's text, and the link to the original article.
I think the people who enjoy Adams' work have probably never read a classic epic in their lives, an d thus think more of Adams' writing than they should.

Which browsers do support it? I've tried Mozilla and IE 6 and both of them have non-mirrored text... I'll have to try opera and konq on my other box.

Insightful? That has to be one of the weakest arguments I've ever read!

I'll avoid the urge to shamelessly promote my own new comic :)

What are you implying by that?

I should have been more clear in my post.

No longer do you have 1MB per minute of video, but much greater, and then you also have 5.1 audio for that video.

Isn't it time that postmodernism died.
Yeah, I'm looking forward to post-postmodernism.
To paste in a terminal window, you have to middle click.
^C means something altogether different in a terminal.
Also, I can copy and paste between gedit and mozilla, and between mozilla and limewire (a java app).
