some people would be shocked to know their 'children' could pop in any bookstore and buy de sade complete works..(at least here in europe, maybe in usa that's blacklisted already). Also in most serious (imo) legislation there's a strong distinction between pedophilia and underage sex. (0-12, 12-18) with the latter being illegal only if parents complain (something went wrong/forced etc). What I also find completely idiotic is to being unable to accept the fact that a teenager has a developed sexuality (after all in case of near mass extinction you would be grateful you can reproduce as soon as your partner has her period) but the classic religious-castrated western worldview just go tribal-brain over any sex related matter....

Having tried both for long time, I can tell eBooks wins hands down, even better if you get one that can read (or made to read) both MOBI and EPUB formats,on the PDF side , if you read a lot of PDFs with a lot of graphics in it, I would agree that a tablet is better, but given software like Calibre you can convert the more 'textly' pdf to mobi or alike in a decent manner. I find e-ink display superlative compared to tablet-lcd/amoled and the likes, not to mention the incredible battery life difference...you can keep reading for weeks...etc.

I for one would happily volunteer for any kind of missions where there would be 'reasonable' measures of safety, meaning they gave a good thought about it.. that would be ok to me, seriously. I have a complete and absolute disgust for the idea and persons behind the idea that somehow this planet substances be them minerals or byproducts of other biological processes should be banned and/or restricted in some specific point in space and time. We are born equals, we have the right to live and experiment with anything that is available, within the limits of not directly and immediately damaging anyone (no precrime bs). Also it's scaring how these news are scarcely debated and how often the discussion shifts to the more trivial and mundane side. Maybe the system is not 100% effective, maybe it will be dismissed in a while or never start at all but the very idea that something like that was put in place for 'security' (against ourselves....) purposes rather than base research or advanced space programs (dreams now... waiting for the rough awakening by some near extinction event) it's sickening. The truth is we are still under the fist of a very small minority of people.

Proper sterlization should occour just before a surgery, the rest should be treated just like any other public space,with the exception of case specific illnesses. Not to mention that is the nasty chemicals that will give you a cancer more likely (see the overcleaning and hodgkin lymphoma connection) not a common bio treat, to which we evolved in thousands of years in resistence. Also medical community should start to think about dropping wide spectrum antibiotics in favor of phages viruses, which are a much better specific option to treat specific bacteria at a time, with a basically 100% success rate...

There is no argument that hold for this totally fake and wanted war system. After ten years what's new there? absolutely nothing. Same as when the russian were there. They are just burning citizens money and making the riches richer. If NASA or any other organization for serious scientific research would have half of the whole war budget in those countries now we would have amazing technologies unlocked and a surely a big amount of new discoveries in base research. All this just makes me sick... we could have permanent moon facilities..and a mars base...pump 100billion a year for 10 years... and it's sure.

I find the exiting statement very interesting and I strongly wish they formalize it with a parliament decision. Nuclear power is clearly not the answer , expecially for such a small country where even a single site failure would compromise the entire nation. They have and will have more hydroelectric power plants and solar, and that's it, same strategy as Germany and Spain. It can be done, and the naysayers are just the politicians and industrials with their hands deep into the nuclear exploitation wealth.
I agree on most things, just one detail tho, how we do consider the approach of a different lifeform 'extraordinary'? it's like bumping into your neighbour, and we 're statistically certain that there are quite some, too. Marking the event of bumping into 'alien technology' as extraordinary is a totally anthropocentric point of view. imho.
