While a little tricky to set up, this allows you to use all of the wonderful KIOSlaves inside *any* application (not just KDE apps) by mounting a gateway directory under FUSE. Want to edit a file over SSH or FTP in the GIMP without explictly copying it locally? No problem.

yeah, instead of an actual review, we just get his real-time scribblings. of course they're not going to make sense to anyone but the writer; they were never meant to. have you ever tried to read lecture notes from someone who payed some amount of attention to a class? they gloss over things they already know, they overemphasize things that are new to them, and the whole bit gets jumbled together so that their thoughts don't make any narrative sense.

way to confuse the snot out of readers expecting a cohesive article! though if they were expecting that, i'm not sure why they'd be at /. to begin with.

I'm sure they would, but it's such a pain to scan pictures and upload them to a server. What we need is a device to do this kind of thing automatically! I'm surprised nobody's asked slashdot about that yet.

Yes, this is how genres arise, and the process is hardly unique to video games. These days, though, it seems that people are less willing to push the boundaries of genre formulas.

That's actually true. These guys are stuck on the idea of animating the keycaps, not just changing them between static bitmap sets. I personally think the latter is more useful on a keyboard, but these folks are artist. Art-butts think like that.

funny, the email i got says:

After the benefit period ends, the new or upgraded level of service will continue automatically (following an email reminder) and you will be billed accordingly, unless you cancel or modify your subscription.

Right there in the bottom paragraph (the normal place for such exceptions, I think). Makes sense to me: you get a free month at a higher plan no charge, and you can stick with the higher plan if you choose to do so, at your own cost. Not really a "catch". Just some people not paying attention or expecting it to be more than it was.

And I've not even had my Model 01 for a month. Granted, they didn't up the 802.11 chip to support 802.11g, and they haven't had a magical increase in battery life. They also didn't change the digitizer, which I find to be too unweildy to use, ever.

actually, .net was originally for routers, not ISPs.

furthermore, such a strict categorization makes for some interesting questions as to where things ought to go. for example, let's say i've got a band that i don't make any money off of (and is therefore not a commercial entity), but is certainly not a "non-profit organization" in the traditional connotation.

there are thousands more examples of cases that don't quite fit into the simple categorizations that were first envisioned with the TLDs. people have adapted their usage to the technological constraints by pushing the boundaries of what TLDs are used for which purposes.
