I beg to differ, its just that games require a different set of finely honed skills in order to succeed.

White Wolf does not have a monopoly on the supernatural.

I guess we'll have to see how the plot shakes out...

Actually, I had a similar situation....Verizon want a 75$ advance on the first bill and a 50$ deposit that they would keep for a year and NOT automatically send it back to me at the end of that year. When I asked about this, the rep said it was 'a state law', which immediately set off red flags.
I let the rep set up the order, and proceeded to ask my friends and coworkers if they ever heard anything like this. Of course no one had, so a few days later, I ordered service through thier website and called to confirm the order with a different rep. Everything was set to go, with no deposit or advance required.

The moral of this story is that while these companies are huge and monolithic, there is also the weak underside of beauracracy and miscommunication that we can take advantage of.

This doesn't excuse such behavior on the part of Verizon, however.

Sorry, gotta disagree here, and the reason why are the weapon limitations.
I mean, it just gets friggin BORING watching two wedge designs trying to flip each other. Start allowing team melees, projectile weapons, acid/flamethrower weaps and small explosives and lets see what happens.

I had a bot design in mind that involved launching drone bots forcible at the opponents with two swinging axe arms. it would get demolished by a little wedge, but whats more exciting - a 'mothership' bot with 4 ramming/piercer drones that launch forcibly with swinging axes or a little wedge with a lot of torque?

    That's what I thought :)

Well, and I don't know how well this fits in the entire alien universe, but it was discovered during one of the comic series that Dark Horse Comics put out that the 'Alien' as we know it is actually a biological terraforming device for yet another alien race.

Some of the evidence in the movies also points toward this possibility, notably where they found them in the first place (i.e. the wrecked alien ship with allthose eggs in the hold.)

In Alien, what they thought was a distress signal was actually a warning that they didn't translate until it was too late. I think, unless i'm mixing up Alien with Event Horizon again.

Well, the solution to this problem is actually quite simple:

DONT MAKE THE FREAKING GAME SO HARD OR TEDIOUS THAT IT MAKES MORE SENSE TO JUST PURCHASE THE ITEM/CHARACTER INSTEAD OF GETTING IT YOURSELF!

Honestly! If you make a leveling treadmill where item spawns are few and far between, thier scarcity gives them real world value. After looking at how long it took me to get to lvl 40 in everquest (7 months of hardcore play) I would much rather pay 600 dollars for a 40th lvl character with decent gear than play through the tedium and hell levels. That, to me, incdicates a broken game.

Of course, the Devs don't get this. UO was the greatest game of this genre ever made, simply because it wasn't a leveling treadmill (per se).

Too bad everyone's copying everquest. Phaugh.

I cant think of any examples offhand, but I assure you, that 10.00/month isn't keeping ANYONE out.

I say this as a UO/EQ/AO/DAOC veteran, too.

Personally, I've given up on MMOGs merely because they take too much freaking time and the fact that these are games, not worlds. The only exception to the previous statement is ultima online, which has probably come closest to gaming goodness in the whole genre, yet everyone seems to be following EQ in design and function.

And don't quote sales statistics at me like they mean anything. People buy crap all the time, but just because a lot of people buy it doesn't mean its not crap.

I think we may be surprised when Neverwinter Nights comes out, it may change the landscape of MMOG gaming. Why play with boned3wd and plated3wd if you don't have to? kick em out and keep em out! The players regain control of thier player environment.

I cant find my copy of that particular collection, unfortunately, but I'm fairly certain that is the case.

Interesting social development too, as well as multinational corps, law enforcement, etc. that deal with advancing computer/AI technology.

In a similar vien, you can check out the Cyberpunk 2020 role-playing game books. Aside from cybernetic implants (and lots of em) there are also items/ides involving biological manipulation/modification (natural gills, tails, claws, etc.), Full cybernetic body replacement where the brain and a few organs are transplanted into a mechanical body, as well as small scale mecha/exoskeltal suits.
