Let's face it, you switched to AT&T because you wanted an iPhone and didn't have a choice in the matter.

Not at all. I would rather have an Android phone. But Tmobile's coverage is worse than AT&T in this area.

I've actually looked into buying a Rodgers branded g1 android phone (from Canada). That phone will work with AT&T 3G here, but its an Android phone. But that requires a big outlay of cash to get the phone (though I may make it back from selling the iPhone).

I had Verizon for near 10 years. However, this last summer I switched to AT&T because verizon's network was dropping my calls in my apartment half the time or more. And this is just 2 miles outside of downtown Portland, Or. Haven't had a dropped call on my iPhone on AT&T yet.

So just remember that strength of network is not "national", because most people don't move around all the time. Find the network that is best in your area first, then pick a phone.

  10. Ars Magica, hmm on 31st Annual Origins Award Winners Announced · · Score: 2, Interesting

I used to love Ars Magica, but it is a very hard game to get played in the way it was written for, that is, troupe style. The players take turns being the story teller, while their own player character mage is off doing research (or whatever). However, since there is no one person who knows all the secrets, it is kinda hard to do a long term story. And believe me, I have tried to make Ars Magica work this way multiple times.

It still is a great game! And the background for the game was some of the inspiration for the original white wolf games (especially mage and vampire) many years ago. Also, the original designer (Jonathan Tweet) later worked as the lead designer for 3rd edition D&D. And I could definitely see many aspects of Ars Magica in 3rd edition, like the way all stats are +/- in a progressive manner.

I have been playing GW games for close to 15 years. While 40k does still appeal mainly to teens, the fantasy game Warhammer has more appeal to older folks. Most of my opponents are above 20, with a good 30-40% above 30 (like me!).

Most of the people in my age range do appreciate the hobby side of the game alot more, with painted armies being our pride and joy. It's mostly teens that run around with unpainted (scoff and point) armies.

I am going to a tournament in just a few weeks where the entry fee is $89. This tournament will have 100+ 40k players and 80 warhammer players. There are other tournaments around the country where close to 200 players show up. And fly in from other states... don't tell me that 16 year olds have enough money to fly around the country to these events. Or their parents permission to hang out in another state without them.

I have had a Yahoo address since the week Yahoo started offering email services back in the 90's. I have used it pretty consistently since then.

However, I just got my gmail account a couple of days ago. The text only advertisements make the page so much bigger (important on a laptop with a 12" screen), so I can actually see my emails. The way emails are grouped into threads is wonderful. I love the keyboard commands, as I have never been a big fan of using mice much. Immediate searching of all your email. And so on... Every single thing about gmail is better than yahoo mail. Even my login, as I have my first name and last initial as my login (thanks to getting in during beta).

  20. Recently installed XP and FC2 w/o problems on Fedora Core 2 Dud or Dodo? · · Score: 2, Informative

I used to use Red Hat back in the 5.* and 6.* days, but switched to Debian after that time. Debian has been very good to me, as I love apt.

However, for my work desktop, I wanted good stability and some new features, without spending alot of time. So, as stable was getting old, and testing kept breaking my desktop printing the past month, I decided to try Fedora Core 2. I first installed Windows XP, and then just stuck the FC2 disk in and let it rip. I had a very easy setup for not using Red Hat in many years. I've had no problems with Grub, and it boots into Windows or FC2. I used Yum, though slower than Apt, to sucessfully get Flash and Xboard (got to have my chess club games, errr, on my work breaks ;)

Still, I will say that when Debian finally gets the current testing to stable, I will go back for my workstation. The Debian installer in testing was wonderful, and I preferred it to FC2. And nothing compares to Apt. And yes, I know there are repositories for Fedora for Apt, perhaps I will mess around with that in between chess games, err, work.
