  1. i rather like 3com network software on 3com to Compete with Cisco · · Score: 3, Interesting

Here where i work i would rather use 3com than cisco. Even though pretty much every equipment we have is from cisco, imo 3com software is much easier to use than ciscos ios.

also i hate all the different software versions (SMI, EMI, etc) that comes preinstalled in cisco switches.

I dont want to run win98 on it, much less pay $$$ for a windows xp upgrade.
All i need at work is a browser, ssh, sapgui and lotus notes.
I use wine daily at work to run lotus notes on it. it works flawlessly. actually, most of the time i forget that im "using" wine, as i have a icon shortcut that launches notes directly.
i dont know if wine will ever be "popular", but it is very useful for my needs, and i thank the developers for that

I work for a small consulting business and since i'm the "linux guy" i was told to build a ^sigh^ cheapest, but reliable web/mail server.
I got two 60 seagate ide drives and used software raid to set it up. That was about two years ago. One of the hard drives failed last year, but i replaced it with a 80gb drive i got in the mall and just rebuilt the server in about 30 minutes (counting the googling and the server stop to replace the drive).
I definitely recommend, as i use this setup at home too.

  9. is it so hard to do the right thing? on EA, Atari Sue Over Videogame Copying Software · · Score: 1

    I play war3 a lot. I bought both war3 and frozen throne (war3 expansion).
When you install war3, it copies about 500mb of data to the hd. Yet, when you want to play, you have to insert the games disk just so you can play online. And guess what the game does? it reads data from the disc. brilliant.
why not copy the whole game to the friggin hd? its not that hard.
so now i use a virtual cd drive with the image in it. I dont use the mentioned software, but the one i use does exactly the same thing, and i see nothing wrong with it.

But you know what? they switched those sun http servers for apache. This one guy in the IT showed to the PHB that not only that would be cheaper (no license fees) but also would make the job easier (better product, more features and documentation).
