If they're likening it TO a photograph... then it IS copyrightable just as professional photographers have a copyright to their photographs of "public" buildings.
So, like a photograph of a building, you can't prevent the sell of that photograph.
But it'll probably require another court case to affirm that the photograph itself IS copyrightable.
(or in this case the model)
Is this really anything more than a 21st century equivalent of getting a fingerprint match and then using government records to search for family connections (or even just last names)?
I'd say it's even a fuzzier link because you could get matches from cousins who don't even really know you.
Uncertainty isn't what insurance is based on. Insurance is based upon probability of a certain event happening to you. IE If you're a smoker, you are more likely to encounter certain health issues and thus your insurance fees are higher because, duh, your health care costs will statistically be higher. Even the almighty socialized healthcare systems can't avoid this fact and spread the cost among all the people instead of forcing the costs on the person doing the smoking.
Note also that this bill doesn't prevent companies from charging MORE for certain genetic dispositions just that they can't deny you insurance because of your genetics. So you're still free to "stock up" on insurance for your condition (and they'll probably provide incentives for you to take more preventative action.
I've said it before and I'll say it again... those who are willing to give up medical freedom for the sake of medical security deserve neither.
It makes you wonder if Slashdot would've even posted something like this if it didn't involve computers...
FTFA:
"Arnold has failed to distinguish how the search of his laptop and its electronic contents is logically any different from the suspicionless border searches of travelers' luggage that the Supreme Court and we have allowed," wrote Justice Diarmuid O'Scannlain.
Is searching the files on a laptop when entering the country any different from searching paper files in a briefcase at the border?
because upon receiving his replacement, he found that he could no longer access any of the media he had purchased through Xbox Live.
Uh... no... RTFA...
This new replacement console has a different serial number and as a result all of my downloaded content only works now when the purchasing profile is signed into Xbox live. Additional profiles on the system can no longer access the content. I can no longer access the content when I'm not signed into Xbox Live.
I'm not saying it's not a problem... it is... You get the same situation if you try to upgrade to an Elite or a unit with HDMI as well (and MS doesn't reimburse you points for that) But you're not 100% cut off from your media (You just have to be logged in...all the time... like even during XBox Live downtimes...).
This has always been Microsoft's way. They bought "Word" and (depending on how you interpret it) they bought "Dos".
Not 10 years ago people were proclaiming the death knell for Microsoft because it missed the internet... then they bought "Internet Explorer" and... well you know how that turned out.
Microsoft has always made stumbles. Where they've excelled is their resilience to find the right solution and implement it in a good enough/cheap enough fashion that it doesn't make sense to buy the other guy.
Can they do this against Google? From a customer stand-point I'm not sure. I'm not just going to use Microsoft Search(tm) over Google so long as Google remains free and provides decent results. So Microsoft can't really win there. But they can steal ad revenue from Google by making their business/web-ads side more appealing to businesses. Get that, control the ad market and you'll be able to embrace and extend Google...
But this is a sign that Microsoft is "failing"? Not on your life...
Father: "Why are you gaming Google to get your myspace page to the top of the list? Where did you learn to do that, huh?!" Kid: "YOU, alright! I learned it from watching you!"

But I wasn't in danger... I was playing a game of street hockey back in grade school and doing the face off on a play. But concentrating intently on trying to make the first shot. I hit it and everything went into "slo-mo" as the puck shot across the gym floor, past several people and almost directly into the net where I saw the guard slowly maneuver to block it.
I didn't "recall" it slower, it was happening slower AS I experienced it.
I don't think the story is done on this. Time is perception and it seems to me that our wetwork bioclocks could experience "overclocking" given the right conditions. (I'm still holding onto the hypothesis that our clocks "slow" down as we age which is why time seems to go faster when you're older...)

You want a low cost computer to give to the children of the world that runs XP? You're sitting on billions of capital. Your ex-CEO runs a worldwide charity. You have manufacturing experience with the XBox360. You have industry alliances with all the major chip manufacturers.
Why don't you BUILD one? I'm sure you could make it "better" and you'd have a whole new customer base. You could even lock out competitors.
Or better yet, why dontcha give away copies of Windows CE? That runs under a gig... doesn't it?

That's how I misread the headline and suddenly had visions of Professor Farnsworth and the smell-o-scope...

Do they use an FM transmitter, cassette adapter or did somebody modify the console with an Aux-in...

Obviously they're just trying to steal MP3s!
They didn't put any electrolytes in it...
