If however we reluctantly accept the fact that malware writers don't have such wondrous artefacts, then we must also accept that Windows' market dominance and its total dominance of the malware sector are merely a statistical correlation, and correlations do not in and of themselves imply, let alone prove, causality.

    BUT WHAT IF THEY DID!

Anyways I was just trying to point out to the parent(who said something along the line that this shows that market share has gone up) that it in fact would not because they were still not exploited like he said. I do believe that the market share for Mac has gone up a lot as I see more and more people using Macs on a daily basis, and are no longer struggling as they were 10 years ago.

I guess you missed my point or I didn't make it clear.

I think you are right that exploits would mean that it was seeing an increase in market share, but in this case I believe they were strictly talking about vulnerabilities being fixed. This means that people knew they were there but didn't even bother to exploit them. If anything this shows that OSX still doesn't have near the market share some people seem to think.

I prefer to think that they were doing preventative maintenance. Apple hasn't always been the best at patching vulnerabilities but I guess they don't need to worry as no one has exploited them like with windows.

Not too sure what the point of the article was, I mean any OS that is out there has some vulnerability that needs to be patched, I'm sure at any given time there are at least 5 for any OS that someone hasn't noticed yet.

BTW Macs are gaining ground in the market patch or no patch. I remember 5 years ago I don't think I knew a single person who admitted to using a Mac now they throw it in your face. I just tell them penguins eat apples for lunch... if they had apples in the south pole anyways. I'm rambling..

  4. My own idea. on Creationism Museum Opening in Kentucky · · Score: 3, Interesting

The question of creationism has always puzzled me. When I was younger I believed in it whole heartedly. Now that I'm older I have had to rethink my beliefs which I think everyone should do regardless of what you believe, you should always re-evaluate everything. But I don't think that the percentage of people that believe in Creationism are going to be compelled by a museum. I mean personal beliefs usually have some kind of variation between others (different religions and your own ideas), but I guess if you're in an organized religion they might be quite similar. I just don't think you can have a museum on Creationism, I think peoples efforts would be better spent on a museum of Religion. This would be more beneficial to everyone knowing the history of theirs and others beliefs. Knowing what is actually true about someone else's religion could help them to understand others as well.

What I purpose is a place where you can go and be educated on every belief. I myself think that atheism requires just as much faith as a person who believes in god. Who are you to know for a fact that something intelligent didn't create everything, something had to come from somewhere no one knows so why it is that it has to be nothing. Frankly I haven't seen much come from nothing I haven't seen any proof of that so I don't know why people think that it takes less faith to believe that there is no god than it does to believe that there is. Frankly you will never convince someone who has a strong faith to switch in either direction. That is why I think that it fits in as well, I'm sure that there are a lot of people on Slashdot that will disagree with me. I've met quite a few in my travels and at work when the subject comes up. But I think that we can all agree that people generally need to make the decision themselves, be it one way or another.

Back on topic I think it would be better to give a whole history of different beliefs such as Greek/roman gods, Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Atheism, and much much more. I think it would be more educational for people and help them with clarity on their own beliefs. I guess when I was younger I was exposed to all the differing views on everything so that I could make a more educated guess at the time in what I believe. Not that it would help much because I always wonder as I think most of you must.

Of course this is all just my opinion, I'm pretty sure someone will disagree or say it wouldn't work or that it's no different than what is proposed. I just think it would be a good idea in my own head.

I would prefer to watch mcgiver do something totaly crazy with a paper clip.

But I got to thinking a month or two back about American Idol in particular and how it was crappy. Then it came to me, I don't think its that bad of a concept. How is it worse than having a Britney Spears? I started to compare the two, instead of having someone who can't hold a note sing pop music you now have a nation wide contest to see who can and make them into a pop star. Now I'm not a pop music fan, it's not my thing. But I would much rather have someone whos gone through a national talent search singing then some girl with big boobs whos gone through 100 hours of mixing at a studio to sound good.

So while I do agree that its shitty television, I would not say its hurting the music industry as much as mixing a crappy singer to sound good. Also you at least get to vote to say this person sucks. Some of them do have talent they just don't sing like AC/DC.

I agree that if you go and make really bad mistakes people will most likely opt not to listen to you. But if your going to ignore someone because they used an apostrophe incorrectly and then yell about it. Thats just overkill. Contribute something to the conversation and then say "hey grammer mistakes bug me so I would like to point out that the way you did that is incorrect". The holocaust is a huge part of WWII, if you don't believe it you should at least know about it. Thats like going to school and having someone tell you that someone has landed on the moon. You don't have to believe it but you should still be taught it, it is still a part of human history.

Not sure where metal detectors in a school has to do with that. He can preach all he wants, you never know he might have gone to university and have a degree in history.

I can understand the UK wanting to be tolerant to muslim beliefs. They are large group. But because they don't believe something doesn't mean that you should be intolerant to the Jewish people either. Or the people that died for that belief. Or the hundreds of millions of others that do believe it did happen. To ignore something so pivital in history is not only foolish but short sited.

'Those that ignore history are doomed to repeat it.'

If your a teacher I don't care if your underpaid your underpaid to teach. If you no longer do that your no longer a teacher. I think that makes perfect sense. If you want equilibrium go home school.

I'm not trying to preach I just wouldn't want my child to miss something so important because a group(no matter how big or small) doesn't believe it happend(or in any other case did). I would want them to know about everything, you could always have a section saying that there are people that do not believe this happend and give both sides to it, even if I disagree I would be open minded towards teaching it and equally proposing both sides. If you wanted to give him a longer suspension at least make it in school so that he can't disrupt the class.

The problem is that he was given a 40 day suspension which is a little excessive, if its in court I hope it gets taken down to 5 days at the max, but at least 1 or 2 days. While the whole time he was caught doing something that was against the policy of the classroom, and as we all know that if your going to do something wrong you shouldn't tape it. Thats like punching someone in the face and saying it was your first amendment right to post it on youtube(or have someone else tape it and put it on youtube). You were stupid enough to do it in the first place and showed less inteligence by putting incriminating video on the net(or linkinig it to your myspace page as in this case).
