  1. Re:Free robot Mind is available on Intel combines Robots, WLANs, and Linux · · Score: 1

you have a LOT of -1s in your list of posts. You would probably do better if you didn't spam the board with the same links over and over. You should just offer people good keywords to google for. Sorry to be blunt, but the Novamente and SIAI stuff is a lot more sophisticated that what you have, and I suggest you read a lot of that stuff.

"And I've gotten sick a few times trying to eat magic mushrooms to make me big too!"

You know, they have littel blue pills for that now... [/joke]

But really, I agree, Mario affected me a lot (i failed a Win32 programming class partly because of it and partly because the class was crap). last winter break I played thru Mario 1,2,3, lost levels, mario world, and yoshi's island, plus the Kafuka World ROM hack of Mario World (hacked levels SO difficult that it's virtually impossible to beat the 3 hacked levels without saving the RAM state almost constantly)

GTA3/VC affected me too... i want run wreck havoc in real life like I do in the game. Quake 1 got me via the soundtrack (Trent r00ls!) and the creepy sound effects and lighting.

And it's because people's own minds make them feel enslaved (since they are not literally), it is their own minds that can release them. Nietzsche was such a downer, but I admit I havent read enough of him to know if he actually proposed any *solutions* on how one should change one's world-view to escape this mind-slavery. One can escape mediocrity if one so chooses. I choo-choo-choose freedom [ ;-) ]

  7. Re:Article helps with suspension of disbelief on The Science of the Matrix · · Score: 1

I agree, his half-assed explanation of consciousness is bunk. He falls back on the excuse of quantum effects giving rise to consciousness. The complexity of the brain, and how its many, MANY components have evolved, is never given enough credit. The fact is that human brains are structurally almost identical in every human on earth, which allows us to communicate and predict/understand what is going on in the minds of others (empathy).

an AI need not be necessarily like human mind to be conscious, but it wouldnt hurt for it to be similar to be understandable to us. The first AIs have have perceptrons that look at raw binary in a 1-dimensional way (a stream of data) on the conscious level.
