Most people just want a cell phone that makes reliable calls. Cell phone manufacturers, however, want people to continue buying new cell phones so they add features to entice a customer into buying another model.
It's most likely both reasons. There are many people with differing viewpoints within Microsoft, just like any other company. I'm guessing that some would want Google for the technology to improve MSN's search abilities and some would want Google for less benign reasons.
The biggest thing missing from Mozilla Composer is the ability to create form elements... why, oh why, haven't they added this feature?
Work with the OpenOffice team?

I really wish there was more consolidation in the OSS world. It would be nice if the Gnumeric developers could spend their time making OpenOffice calc even better. Gnumeric may be good, but OpenOffice will be what the vast majority uses in the future...
He's not seriously considering blowing up people's computers. He's trying to cause a big enough stink so that the computer industry will do something about it.
I think the biggest advantage to the "enterprise" offerings from RedHat is that they don't change as often as the "consumer" versions. This is good when a 3rd party software company is trying to certify their product for use on RedHat.
The company I work for saved a tremendous amount of money by setting up Linux Terminal Servers. So now our entire call center runs Linux and we don't have to pay the high costs of "Software Assurance" from Microsoft.
It would be really slick if computer magazines started including a free Knoppix CD. People could try out Linux for the first time without touching their current installation.
So, you're saying users should stay with Windows forever because it's slightly easier to use right now? Things in Linux-land are improving at a dramatic rate. I see more and more curiosity about Linux every day on the mailing lists, which means more of the techies in ISPs and technical support groups that you mention are learning about Linux. It's a huge snowball effect. Bring on the new users!
No, see, I don't have any Windows boxes and I don't plan on purchasing any in the future either. I would, however, really like to play good games on Linux. I plan on purchasing a copy as soon as it's available.
Nah, I wouldn't care if it took $100,000 to get a product like HP OpenMail open sourced. At least we'd have the option to use it and build upon it, unlike now.
I've been without a TV for about 8 years now and it's been really nice. Oh sure, I can't chuckle along with my coworkers about last night's Friends episode, but somehow I still get by. The best part is that after coming home from work I actually have to find something constructive to do with my time instead of wasting the next 5 hours watching sitcoms. Toss your TV. You'll like the results.
Sheesh... Look, if you set it up for Mom and put icons on the desktop for her to click on for her email, web browser, and office suite, she won't know the difference. Build a kernel module? Come on... now you're just being a troll.
Seems if i try to view an image all i get is some damned pop-up ad
You need to go here first then: mozilla.org
I wish I was there to help out... I'd gladly donate some time to assist them.
And now if we could just develop wireless power for all these wireless devices... other than batteries, of course. ;-)

This conflict will always be here.

Can someone explain to me how Taco can dupe his own dupe?
People don't have to know how to build an enginer to drive a car.
Whew! I wouldn't know how to build an engineer either.
...so more people will test the kernel and report problems back to the maintainers. Then we all benefit with a more stable kernel.

If you've got a Knoppix CD with you, just boot from it and cast your fears aside about locally installed software snooping on you.
A USB 2.0 hard drive would be useful. I saw this one demoed at a tech expo recently.
