If Microsoft or any other big company did something remotely similar to this I imagine that there would be a HUGE uproar but just because they're open source and support Linux do they get special treatment? It seems rather pointless to me considering if you really wanted the build you could just build it from CVS so if anything this is just giving them bad MSlike publicity.
"This song is Copyrighted in U.S., under Seal of Copyright # 154085, for a period of 28 years, and anybody caught singin it without our permission, will be mighty good friends of ourn, cause we don't give a dern. Publish it. Write it. Sing it. Swing to it. Yodel it. We wrote it, that's all we wanted to do."
IANAL or do I play one on TV. But it seems to me that because of this the Copyright holders could end up losing their copyright (which apparently they should have many years ago) thus losing what money they were making off of it, seems pretty dumb to rock the boat when your own copyright is in question (and making you money).
Actually no, MS now tries to release patches on the same day every week (I think Wednesdays?, can't remember) and they're wanting to go once a month(if they haven't already).
I understand that some patents are bad and all by why go after Nintendo for patenting something THEY made? I mean they created GBA so they should be allowed to control it everywhere. I usually agree with the EFF but I think they're severly misguided on this one.
Not sure what court it was, but emulators were declared *legal.*
Until they realized they could patent the concept of emulating their own systems and then sue the emulator creators for violating their patent, or at least it's coming. They've already got a patent on GBA emulation so any GBA emulator free or not could be killed at Nintendo's whim, they already stopped a Tapwave emulator (if I recall correctly), nifty eh?
I actually don't do the movie thing, I rent DVDs and anything I want to see on TV is recorded on my DVR so then I can skip the ads. The ad free life is the life for me!
Unless you mean offer an adfree service for money and ads for free, I don't think anyone would actually pay to then be shown ads, at least anyone with some sense.
Or perhaps we could flash-mob (or would that be slash-mob) teeni-bopper radio stations and request her single.
The problem with this is that I think most slashdotters don't bother listening to the radio when you can listen to MP3s/Ogg/AAC/whatever on your PC and not have to deal with ads and annoying DJ's.
I was just thinking that if you cannot replace the battery then why buy one? I mean would it really kill them to make the battery replacable similar to a cordless phone or PDA?
You would be interested in Spyware Blaster it is a nifty program which will modify the registry to block all known ActiveX spyware prompts. It also has a convient update feature in the program so you can be lazy and update it at your leasure and the best part is it's free!
(and the fact that a stand-alone DVD burner/recorder is still about $800),
I'm sorry but that number is WAY inflated, Aldi the lowcost food store that sells Generic foods had one for $270 BestBuy.com had one for $200 (not sure if it was a price mistake) but basically you can find one for for around $300.
By buying this and then telling Rio I bought this for Ogg and FLAC support you then send a message to the company that people WANT this and then other companies will probably copy them because they'll want similar success.
You can find them for about here for $289 and there's a fun $20 rebate available also. So you can get it for $269 AR and there is also free shipping. So it's below the iPod it's 20 GB AND it supports Ogg and FLAC. It also has unofficial support for Linux so you lose the apple 'coolness' but your pocketbook and open source will thank you!
that wouldn't work because the card serial numbers have the golden stuff you have to scratch off with your finger nail.

Please explain to me how the target audience (3rd world countries) are supposed to be able to afford a Macintosh.
Yes and get sued into obvilion for violating Nintendo's Trademarks and copyrights!

Shouldn't that be every six days? Seriously.
Actually no, MS now tries to release patches on the same day every week (I think Wednesdays?, can't remember) and they're wanting to go once a month(if they haven't already).
If anything they're being more similar to Phillips CDi which had infomercials advertising it.
So they've hired you to post good things about them on slashdot, eh?

Tell me where you can get TV access by paying without ads.
..and what makes you think they wouldn't do both?
Unless you mean offer an adfree service for money and ads for free, I don't think anyone would actually pay to then be shown ads, at least anyone with some sense.
Why charge for AIM when you can slowly put ads on the AIM conversation windows ala ICQ.
uh when everyone knows www.gamecopyworld.com it does take 0.5 seconds to find a crack.
waiting waiting waiting
woah woah woah, you're admitting IN A PUBLIC FORUM you bought an N-Gage?! You have more balls than me dude.

Even nicer to see the people who try to post authoritatively on topics they know nothing about being represented.
I thought that WAS slashdot?
can't for get MC Kids, that was one huge, but extremely fun to play, McDonald's commericial (Geez makes me think that NES was one big ad)

So who else thinks this will sell more than N-Gage?
