Without reading his research, the article seems to be describing puncuated equilibrium. The article does make a good point though; that as scientists, biologists and anthropologists should explore alternative models of evolution. I stand pretty firmly in the school of puncuated equilibrium, but thats not to say that my ideas about are necassarily correct, just that what I learned about it seems more logical in the context described by Gould than does gradualism. If another theory comes along with a little more science to back it up, we should all be open to evaluating it.

Regardless of your political leanings, this seems like a pretty shady way of avoiding giving the public its voting records. It seems to me that we should not be allowing proprietary formats to be used in the voting process. When the rights of intellectual property and the rights of corporations usurp the rights of citizens to examine the voting record, I think that we enter dangerous territory and should ask some some serious questions about the way elections are held in our country. I'm all for using technology to make voting easier, but if it comes at the expense of accurate elections, I'd rather go back to paper and pen.

the more I got to thinking about what I wrote, I kind of realized that the only original idea microsoft ever had was their licensing agreements with hardware manufacturers. The for a flat fee you can use our OS on X number of computers approach is what made their OS so available for consumer use in the first place.

Has microsoft had an original idea in years? I'm not one to bash microsoft usually, but it seems like now every time I hear about them in the news, its because they bought up some small company, or are launching a service that is already available. I wish they would stick to what they do best/alright OS and office software. They need to stop trying to control every piece of the computing experience, it makes them look more evil.

Personally, I think R-star screwed up and now they're going to get pwned by lawyers for the next 5 years, but people need to get a grip. Take some personal responsibility, instead of just buying whatever your kids are screaming for for thier birthday. Read the box and know what you're buying 1st.

Sure, nokia may sell a bunch of smartphones, but that doesn't mean that volume of sales is an automatic indicator of some level of success as a gaming platform. You have to convice consumers that the features the phone offers are valuable to them. I don't think this is a question of units sold. Its more a question of whether the person buying the phone uses the features. Working for Verizon I can tell you that many people over 30 aren't interested in text messaging, picture messaging, data services, cameras and all the bells and whistles. They want a good performing reliable phone thats not too hard to use. I think that dedicated gaming handhelds will continue to outperform smart phones as our device of choice for portable gaming.

My PSP is awesome, but ultimately it's a toy. I really bought it to see what it could do. It can do alot, play games, movies, music, carry files. It looks good and everyone asks about it. But when i sit at home or on car trips, I take the GBA, simply put its a better gaming device than the PSP is. Thinking about this makes me think about buying a DS to carry with my PSP.
