"Then there's the PS2 and the Sony Ericsson phones - solid, well designed products that do their job well, although admittedly without any 'wow' factor."

Please explain why probably 1/3 to 1/2 of all PS2 units ever sold are no longer functional?
You look to hard at them (or use them as intended) and the optical drive or some other component eats itself.

If the PS2 was so well designed why are there 12 revisions to it? They all are not because of reductions in component cost or better integration of components.

Sorry if I sound angry, but I'm on my third one, I don't abuse them or keep them in a dirty environment. The one that still works even has computability issues with so far one PS2 game. The game runs on every other PS2 I have tried it in (3 now), the unit plays all other games on that type of media, but when I load up this game after the splash screen (when it has finished booting from the media) the unit locks up hard.

They didnt even try to do that.
They bough some other company who makes voting machines so they could get some of that fat elections cash. So they didnt even put in the minor amount of work that slapping voing into their ATM tech would take.

Because like how MS did not program Halo but they did buy Bungie who did program Halo. Diebold does not make voting machines but they did buy a shitty company who makes voting machines because they wanted to get into the voting machine business and didn't want to do actual work.

  10. Re:Scary on Diebold Insider Comments on Voting System Flaw · · Score: 1

I think the big problem is that the days we are asked to vote are not national holidays. By being forced to work on those days we have to scramble to make it in to a voting station (along with everyone else) before work, during lunch, or after work. For people who would like to volunteer it's worse because they would have to miss work, and in this "recovering" economy (where tens of thousands of firings are announced nearly weekly) many employers are right bastards.

  11. Re:Democrats have been cheating for years on Diebold Insider Comments on Voting System Flaw · · Score: 1

"Do you have any proof that such things happened, or just partisan allegations and hearsay?"

The bit about some republican supporters spreading rumor that due to high voter turnout, democrats (primaries often happen on different days here) were supposed to vote on a different day, and the screw ups (or evil depending on viewpoint) with people being told to vote in the wrong place and then not being allowed to vote because of bureaucracy are true and were documented by elections officials and the press. There were also issues of some large turnout areas having insufficient voting machines or old slow voting hardware. Some people were in fact not allowed to vote, even though they had been waiting upwards of 6 hours, by the time the polls closed.

I'm not saying there is a right wing conspiracy (there is actually, but that's another story) but Diebold didn't help matters by having it's CEO say (in what he thought was a Republican only event) that he would "do everything in his power to give the election to the GOP".

I don't think it should be outlawed because it is part of some peoples religion. It should IMO not be done to children. As an adult you can make that kind of decision about body modification (or mutilation depending on your view) with proper information. On the bright side if someone wants foreskin back there is a safe and effective (slightly uncomfortable) way to regain what has been lost, but it's not the same bit of skin that you were born with.

People need to just wash themselves and be clean (can't have too much of that IMO).

  16. Re:Simple question: on Hydrogen Generating Module to Help Your Car? · · Score: 1

In a Prius replacing the battery unit is estimated at around two grand (currently) and for eight years is covered by warranty. Will a TDI be covered as long? My 2002 Prius is still going strong and has another five years warranty coverage on the hybrid side of the system (coverage on the ICE and other mechanical stuff has ended). It would appear that Toyota at least is confident on getting at least 8 years out of the battery/electronics side of the Prius design.

An old diesel was easy to maintain and would last a long time, I agree. I have seen newer designs and they are about as complex as you can get, definitely less forgiving then the old engines used in Rabbits.

I'd like a diesel hybrid so I can use bio fuels, maybe one day we will get them.

It's not what the revolution promises but have you tried Mad Maestro for the PS2? Little $20 game (like Mr. Mosquito or Katamari Damashi) that is rather fun, has an amusing story and you conduct an orchestra using the pressure sensitivity of the Dual Shock buttons (not as elegant and responsive as it should be because you have no feedback). You also have to call in or direct specifically to parts of the orchestra using the D-pad. It starts out straight forward and introduces you to the mechanics and then they gradually ramp things up. IMO good game and worth $20 brand new.
