I had a Sony DVD player that failed. After checking online, I found that this player apparently had a flaw that made it stop reading disc's after about a year. Sony's official word? They acknowledged the problem but would offer absolutely no support. So no more Sony for me.
Sure you could probably get Half-Life 2 to run on a PS2 or XBox, but do you know what it would probably look like? Half-Life 1. So whats the point?
Consoles may be great for running the latest Zelda or Halo but a game featuring the "latest and greatest" of graphical features will always be best on PC.
In the most recent issue of the magazine MaximumPC, they go in depth to show you exactly what to expect based on what video card you have. I don't have it with me right now, but its worth looking at.
It ain't gonna happen. The only way you can emulate a Cube, PS2, or maybe even an Xbox on a Pentium 4 is to either get Nintendo and Sony to do it for you or to get them to give you all the information you need to do it. Neither of which is going to happen.
Yes, you are right... you just get the game data and do the appropriate conversions to let it work on a PC or whatever and let 'er rip. But first you need to understand the game data to convert it. Then you need to relize that these "conversions" you spoke of aren't free. They take CPU. So by the time you get your "conversions" working efficiently enough to make the games playable, the game console in question would have already been out of the market for enough time so that nobody even cares that you've emulated it.
Besides, if someone were to create a console that successfully emulated all 3 via say, maybe, hardware means, they'd get sued into oblivion before night fell anyway.
I have a Rocket eBook, the precursor to the Gemstar eBook (before Gemstar bought Nuvomedia) and I've seen this coming for a long time. For me, ever since Gemstar bought out Nuvomedia its been downhill. They immediately closed down the "Rocket Library" which was a place full of public domain books you could get for free. Then they canceled their deal with Barnes and Noble. Powells is great, but come on... Barnes and Noble is Barnes and Noble!! I stopped seeing books being published for my eBook so I haven't used it in a very long time. I guess I shoulda sold it on eBay earlier, now it won't get as much!
I wouldn't actually call Metroid Prime an FPS. I still dislike the idea of FPSes for consoles, but if they released Geist and it used the same control style of Metroid Prime, then I'd buy it. If they stuck to it being a pure FPS, I'd pass.
The old man playing had a cigarette in one hand and was pressing the button as fast as he could with the other, making the on screen breast flop around. As the score for his jiggling got tallied up our eyes met and we both smiled. Then he had to look back at the screen because the mini game had ended and the mahjong game he was playing had begun again.
Broken Sword 3's interface is similar, except the 4 buttons of the gamepad will be used for 4 different verbs that vary by object.
I like that they are going to the direct control of the character approach, because it allows them to port to consoles easier which expands the adventure genre considerably.
How many versions of Street Fighter II WERE there? It seemed like for a time they were releasing one a day. Street Fighter II. Super Street Fighter II. Super Street Fighter II Championship Edition. Super Street Fighter II Hyper Turbo... etc etc.
Taking arcade machines and networking them? So when you put your quarter in... whoops sorry showing my age. Anyway when you put your dollar in, you play a game that is networked with several other arcades as well as some home users.
Are they going to produce LiveCDs like they did for Unreal Tournament? I think that would be a sweet idea. I never got the UT live CD to work (ATI card) but I think the idea is excellent.
If I remember correctly, you pair the characters up with whomever you want to. The whole point is you have a driver that has certain characteristics and a weapons character, that has certain characteristics. Remember in the first Mario Kart how the NPC version of Donkey Kong could drop banana peels etc? This is along the same lines.
Virtualboy Advance SP?

I didn't RTFA but by file do you mean song, or that specific file? If its the latter, I can think of even more ways to get around this problem. :)

I believe that would be "my dream job."

I have to agree about The Longest Journey. I still listen to that CD. Awesome music for an awesome game.
Why not remake the PC port of FF7? Like actually try to make it work this time? I have to say that was the most half-assed porting job I've EVER seen.

Three letters: ADD. :)
I like the part where the 3D-Realms guy says "We don't want hype."
If you don't want hype, don't announce a game and then wait like a decade to release the thing!
I thought Klingons had pink blood?
I have Visual Studio.NET, and while it does cost money, the compiler does not. You can just get a free IDE (ie SharpDevelop) and be on your way.
.NET isn't included with Windows now, but it should be with Longhorn.
I know
What game is THAT? Wario Ware XXX?

I better go patent this!
It's probably Nintendo's hefty licensing fees.

$50 AFAIK
If we are indeed in The Matrix, then isn't life just one big MMORPG already?
So we'd be playing an MMORPG in a MMORPG... this sounds too much like The Thirteeth Floor.
I love it how the media automatically assumes DVD stands for Digital Video Disc.
