Exactly, I'm done with the 'Big Boy's', and my bro is done with Xbox. Ouya and Indie all the way for me!. They can shove their $70 games and $600 Consoles up their rectums.
Are you in the right year? Let me bring you up to speed, AMD bought ATI, ATI is gone. As far as stability, I can't say I've had any problem with AMDs drivers for my 6670 on Windows or Linux. Where as I have had all sorts of stability problems with Nvidia on Linux, which is odd since most people say Nvidia is the best for Linux, even though all the forums are full of question on how to resolve issues with Nvidia. Seems backwards to me. o0
If users can make their own, what's the point of them anyway. Eventually, if they get popular, the Chinese will get in on the act and start pumping them out and the whole fad crashes.
lgdb.org is always updated and has a huge database of Games, Both free and paid. And DJL (en.djl-linux.org) is sort of like Steam but includes free Games also. There is all kinds of places and things.
All I see are a lot of people complaining about the Windows 8 UI. But let me ask you a serious question, why do you feel like you are forced to use Windows?. Let's get real, it's not the 90's anymore, perfectly usable alternatives now exist. Instead of dealing with whatever UI Microsoft forces upon you, why not at least TRY an alternative OS, you can have whatever UI you take a fancy to.
Please don't start on the Games and Office software, that's an old argument that isn't valid. I used Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/Vista and I was firmly hooked by Microsoft's Nicotine. Then I had 7 forced upon me, I hated the over-sized and ugly new taskbar and set out to see what Linux had to offer. I had a closet full of Windows only games and had never even used Office, so Games were upfront for me as well as stability and strange Hardware support.
I saw many different UI and flavors of Linux and after several months of research into my Games, Wine and Hardware; I decided that Xubuntu was for me. It offered ease of use through PPA and the Software center, stability and Hardware compatibility. And best of all, nobody forced me to upgrade every two years or be stuck with a strange UI forced upon me. And I didn't need to worry about an Anti-virus slowing my PC down or Hard Drive thrashing. When the UI popped up after a few seconds after Power-On, it was instantly usable without waiting.
Not all my Games worked with Wine, but I didn't really care since before I switched I found alternatives for the 100+ games I had; not to mention I had already played those games to death anyway. I had a whole new world of Games to play around with and the Software Center was central in helping me; along with lgdb.org and later Steam and Djl.
The only hard part about switching, was knowing that I would not be part of the Microsoft world anymore and things would be much more relaxed and less stressful; so I now had too much time on my hands to do actual work and leisure activities. Looking back, leaving Windows after 15 years of use (Since 1998) was the best decision I ever made. And I know for a fact, if a person like me could do this, there is no reason others couldn't also since the only hard part was knowing that Windows would be your past. I am happy, and the three people that converted with me are happy also, that's really all that matters.
I'm probably late, I feel really bad but I'll tell you my experience. As a newbie, I was quite comfortable with Xubuntu. When it's installed it looks like a Mac with the Top bar and the Dock on the bottom, I didn't like that so I rearranged it by removing the Dock and moving the top bat to the bottom.
There were about a dozen 'plug-ins' on the right by the clock for Pidgin and such, and a nonfunctional 'Network'. I mean nonfunctional because there were no flashing lights, so I removed that (Disabled Startup) and replaced it with 'Network Monitor' which was customizable. Yeah so, it basically looks like Classic Windows now with a few other tweaks, like custom quick launch. What they (XFCE) call a Quick Launch with their own plug-in is unusable for me.
So basically everything is completely different than what was installed; I'd say that's pretty darn customizable. Stable too, and I don't have the problems with XFCE, for games, that people who use Unity do; like Full-screen issues etc. I have a few quirks, some of the software installed isn't what I like, I replaced SMPlayer with VLC and Xfburn with K3B, replaced Pidgin with Kopete and Gyache because I need Webcam support, Pidgin doesn't have it, I don't use Spyware Skype sorry. I installed Gimp and GtKam, Wine and Gedit. I'm happy.
So yeah, I even wrote a blog post to help new people who wanted it to look familiar. I admit however, I'm probably a little more advanced than someone who doesn't know anything about computers, But it was new for me when I installed it as my only OS. Even managed to convert two people. =p
Whatever man, call me when I can hold it in my hand. None of it is valuable to me anyway. A piece of Metal, Paper or a Bit; It's like going outside and grabbing a handful of Dirt and trying to buy something with it. This whole idea of 'money' needs to be dispelled and people need to learn, benefits for everyone come only when we work for the betterment of each other.
Money keeps rich people rich and poor people poor. Working for our advancement is the only way for equality and freedom. Go ahead, vote it troll, for me it'll be nothing more mathematical middle finger, worthy of about as much attention as those illusions of grandeur you have floating in your head about avoiding taxes with your newfound virtual fad.
Laughing all the way to the Bank you say? Good luck with that one, Heaven forbid somebody steals your 1's and 0's. Makes about as much sense as Software Patents. It's my lawn, I can piss on it if I want, It's really Yellow too; must be all those Bit Coins I ate. I'm sabotaging my Score aren't I.
You guys should know, components are cheap now, If TV makers built basic sets without all the WiFi and fancy flash; they would actually lose money. Which brings us to 3D, the whole point of 3D is to keep the TV profitable for the manufacturer.
It's the same reason cars look like electric shavers and the steering wheel attached to a Computer instead of a gear box, to keep the Item profitable for the company. We simply wouldn't have any of these products anymore if they only made basic items, all the companies would be out of business.
I'm not defending them though, I still like my Steering Wheel attached to the actual wheels and non-3D TV's. Just saying why it's happening, the root of the problem seems to be Money. And until we have a Star-Trek kind of 'Work not for money, but for the betterment of Humanity' kind of world, then I don't see it changing anytime soon; you can expect more useless features coming soon.
Exactly, they got the jump on the Desktop after pulling a few strings. And now you got these Mini-Console popping up to further cut into all the big boys profits; and have you noticed there is very little interest in the next-gen consoles? It's like Crickets out there. And their phones are not doing so well, latest numbers say 2%, that's hardly a dent. But there are a lot of apologists out there that will argue until their ears bleed that Microsoft is doing well, whatever.
And now with Linux in a usable state and the word catching on, Desktops not selling so much etc, their flagship product Windows is even in danger. I'm just going to say it: Microsoft's future is looking bleak. Not that it bothers me since there isn't a single Microsoft product in my house since last year, worst case, hardware development will slow down; so what, we can adapt to home-brew micro boards with AMD and Tegra offerings.
You could go on and on for pages, but what's the point. Everybody knows how the story ends.
That hasn't been my experience. I've simply had better reliability from AMDs offering (On Linux) than Nvidia. But everyone is entitled to their opinion. And by the way, Carmack also said that Linux wasn't viable as a gaming platform, so...Gabe disagrees.
Exactly, I think everyone forgets how Microsoft works. Another fine example is when they end support for an OS, they remove everything from their website that would be of any manual help to you. It's Microsoft's policy to Hook you and force you to upgrade by removing even the most basic self-help. You guys should know that by now, really.
As for the article, it simply makes sense that AMD offers a fully integrated solution with a low price. And it's a good deal for AMD also.
Exactly, and if you are using Windows then what is the point of making Skype 'secure' when it runs on an unsecured platform. Did everyones _NSAKEY Marble fall out of their memory?.
Just Hyper-V, and only because they were forced to implement it due to business customers demand. Unless you count Skype, and that's just a program that was started by a completely different company and continued by Microsoft, which amazingly, made it a little better. I don't use the Skype now because of the whole 'Spying' issue, if you remember.
This is my Theory also, we were bred away, there was even a report about breeding between the two. I still feel that we are missing important parts of this puzzle because we don't all look the same, I think there is a lot more that has to be discovered and some of it may even offend people.
There was also a story here that suggested we have stopped evolving. I disagree, I think people in warmer climates will eventually evolve to be completely hairless. Just imagine the potential market for Wig makers.
Exactly. It was working just fine, and the pages were not slow and bulky. And when ads did appear, they were minimal and not intrusive. People say we should just let the banks fail and reboot, I think we should let websites whose pages are slow and bulky and have top bottom and sides filled with ads, just let them fail.
User created content use to be king, now it's corporate garbage with shill reviews and web browsers that can't cope with all the shitty code and slowness. And when you searched from a Search engine, you actually found relevant results and not auto generated trash.
I don't mind cleaner, speedier websites with less clutter. But when the day comes where I am forced to use a Phone, rather than a Desktop Computer, that'll be my divorce from the Internet. The Internet was suppose to be open and accessible to everyone who wanted to visit it, pushing things to the point where only certain people can access it is wrong. And when, not if, that days comes; it will be a disaster and a setback to advancement and openness.
If you read through all the Headlines about NK, it almost seems as if they want to be attacked; It's like they are screaming "Put us out of our misery!". It makes for good entertainment on the News, I mean that's what news is now in the US, just entertainment. Of course it could be just a cry for help, or maybe we will push them to the point where they actually do attack the DMZ and throw the world into some kind of World War with the Chinese siding with NK.
I hate to sound like a Warmonger, but maybe the world does need a massive global war to kick us out of the fantasy world we've been living in for several decades. Show people that iPads and a new PS4 aren't important things in Life. One nice big reboot.
Actually, I just bought 'Eschalon Book I' for Linux a few hours ago out of pure curiosity, very surprised I was at the quality of this RPG. I'm gonna buy Book II and Book III when it arrives, I'm just overjoyed that the old style RPGs are still being made by a small company that cares.
Tides of Numenera was pimping Linux support also, so that's a good thing, thumbs up.
I'm content with SimCity 2000 and 3000, and 3000 has a native Linux version. It's the same stuff anyway, build and manage a city, I don't care about graphics. Best part, no always online garbage or games saved in the 'cloud'.
If you don't really care about graphics, there are literally hundreds if not thousands of awesome old games out there begging you to play them. And none of them treat you as a slave. Don't be a slave to these pricks, they don't care about you anyway; how much more do they need to do to you to prove this?.
You've clearly never had people living next door who blast their car boom boxes at 3AM.
If he's having them converted back into US$ then why even bother with Bit Coins in the first place.
If I'm going to spend money on a Game, I'd like to be able to play it regardless of what platform I use.
lgdb.org is always updated and has a huge database of Games, Both free and paid. And DJL (en.djl-linux.org) is sort of like Steam but includes free Games also. There is all kinds of places and things.

Windows is still $150+ in the Philippines, even though most people there can't even afford that. Amazing huh.
Perhaps this was the Linux compatible game they were making for 2013? (I'm a Linux user OK) =p

Yes but a lot of those GOG games have things like MP removed. And because of how they are reworked, are not compatible with, say, the CD version.
