Is this is the case, then that would put the Fox network in an interesting predicament. They have been encouraging text message through American Idol, and the host of that is now on commercials for some cell phone provider or another involving text messages as well. Then we might have the kind of internal battle of that sony has been facing over file sharing.
a government regulating the integrity of language is nothing new. the US does it in censorship. by deciding certain words should not be used in TV, we are basically saying that they should not exist. france just offers an alternative that more correctly flows with the somewhat poetic feel of the french language.
I learned assembly without even reading a book, from messing around with softice, some deadlistings(IDA's better), and some source files I came across. I honestly don't see why everyone is so intimidated by it.
I think it's pathetic that someone who writes articles on PC use took this long to just check out linux. It isn't like it's some obscure OS! It's half as old as his PC experience!
Why do these people think that Microsoft owes them anything? Yes, Microsoft sees X-Box hackers as a problem. Like a gnat flying around your soup. They've got bigger and better things to worry about.
And asking Microsoft to make it so people can use linux on their XBox is like asking Nintendo to make it so we can play Playstation games on the GameCube. It's just not going to happen.
I think it'd be really interesting to see one of the one real PC makers to introduce a PC that would -really- show what linux can do, not just toss in a copy of redhat.
Maybe they could use a custom distro optomized for that individual model, ala gentoo. Hire a professional team to make a truly user-friendly linux or something..
With the kind of money PC vendors are dealing with these days, and with a operating system as mallable as linux, you'd think they'd be jumping all over the opportunity to make their OWN linux rollout that kicks the shit out of all the others, but those are just pipe dreams I guess...
You're missing the whole point of using lossless compression to trade audio files. It's not about the quality of music. Even in.shn format, half of it still sounds like shit. The point is, if you allow trading of music in a lossy format, the trading pool gets dilluted over time. The people who took the time and effort to preserve the artists work see their record of it disgraced, and they stop recording it. And the people who are trading the dilluted copies think it's sounds awful, and they stop trading it. Then, Phish's fanbase becomes smaller and smaller, until they're back to playing at seedy pubs in Vermont.
That is just plain scary. I don't want any damned cell phone making my decisions for me. I can just see it attempting to buy and sell stocks or some stupid shit like that...
I stumbled across this site a while back when this stuff was fairly new. I decided to check back up on it, and apparently it's in production of sorts, although it still seems fairly beta.
It's called Shakti-Lite, and it's a headset you wear that plugs into your soundcard, and with the software, it generates signals that cause magnets in the headset to do some crazy stuff. It even has instructions for making your own headset. It's intent is for exploring consciousness, but perhaps with modification some smart slashdotters can modify this to make us all genuises for cheap!
What a spectacular use of time and money! I can think of no better way to showcase the capabilities of MEMS than with a fucking game. This is sure to elimate all the worlds problems. These scientists should get a nobel prize for making great use of their time in the lab. I'm sure their wives and children are proud of them. I once read an article on a MEMS device that could help make fiber optics accessible to almost anyone for cheap. Who in the hell needs useless stuff like that? Give us a nanotech foosball table, and science can stop right there, as far as I'm concerned.
You're an idiot. I wasn't even diagnosed with ADD until I was 18 years old. Not every kid with ADD or ADHD is disruptive. Sure, some crazy attention, but what kid doesn't?
I am not lazy. I have ADD. I am not a victim. I am a person with a problem. I do not think of myself as "disabled". I'm not asking for a free good grade or pay raise based on my problem. I don't think too many people with ADD or ADHD do.
I never use ADD as an excuse for anything. If my girlfriend catches me zoning out, I don't say "Sorry, my ADD is acting up."
I have a job answering telephones at a hotel reservation center. I hate my job with a passion, but I'm good at it because the calls are quick and I don't have time to zone out. I'd rather be doing something more involved, but due to me being "lazy", I have a hard time.
Yeah, I think we've all had those classes where the professor sucks and you get bored and draw stuff and what not. But how about the classes that I have a geniune interest in? Sometimes all it takes is a person tapping their fingers to throw me totally off of what's being said in the class, and once that happens, it's next to impossible for me regain my concentration.
I don't take pills. I took ritalin for a little while, and it did make a difference. But I stopped. Partly because I was afraid of becoming dependent, and partly to defend myself against ignorant pricks like yourself who think they know everything.
ADD/ADHD is a disease, plain and simple, and it prevents people from doing things to the best of their ability, whether they are interested in it or not.
ADD/ADHD- If you don't have it, then you can't dispute it.
I'm diagnosed with ADD, which is ADHD without the hyperactivity. I have extreme difficulty focusing, to the point where my neuropsych thinks I have a learning disability. I used to take Ritalin, and it's helps a little, but I have an tendency for addiction, and decided it wasn't worth the risk.
ADD is most definitely a hindrance for me. The only upside to it is that it keeps my interests so diverse. I have a million hobbies, it seems like. But my focus is so poor that I can't really reach expert level at anything.
I play guitar, and have been for over a decade, but I can't force myself to practice for more than 10 minutes at a time.
When I get on the internet, intent on studying up on whatever my hobby is for the minute, the slightest distraction will throw me of course. Half the time I can't even remember what the hell I got on the computer for in the first place.
School is a joke. I barely graduated high school, and I've got 6 credit hours after 4 years of off and on college education. I do very well in courses that are completely alien to me, but I bomb out of classes that are review because there is just nothing to hold my interest.
I know I'm smart, and it pisses me off that I come across as a total idiot sometimes. I'm just hoping that I'll find a solution for myself so I can get my life on track.
ADD is not just an excuse for psychiatrists to give kids presciptions for ritalin. It's a real disease, although probably a very over-diagnosed one.
I've been using a PC since I was 5, and I've been typing well over 60wpm since I was in the 5th grade, and I can still write in cursive and hold a pencil properly. But how often do -anyone- actually use cursive? It's difficult to read, so why bother? I can always read what I type, regardless of how my fingers are positioned on the keyboard. It's not that handwriting is not important, but if cursive were to fall off the face of the earth, it would not have a huge impact on society.
I used to work at Office Depot. They used to sell more junk bargain bin software than actual useful software. No one ever bought software from us. This looks like a pathetic attempt to "improve" upon their stock of software, while weeding out the crap.
If the average rock star only made $40,000 per album, MTV's "Cribs" wouldn't exist. Most bands get their money from booking sold out tours. Think about Phish. Out of like 15 albums, not a single one has gone gold, but they're still filthy rich because they put on a damned good show.
This is true. No software is ever going to make looking at a computer screen easy on the eyes. Not only that, but the loss of mobility with a computer takes a big comfort hit. How often do you sit in the same position while reading a book? You are not given so much freedom while staring at a computer screen, be it a monitor or a laptop screen.
So until computers are book-sized and book-weighted, with brighter, non-reflective screens, they will never replace books for the wonderful pastime of reading.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Phish has a huge loyal fanbase, and if this approach succeeds, it will say a lot about making music for the fans, instead of the money.

counterfeiters are going to LOVE this!

Now why the hell did they make .jpg screenshots of a bunch of terminal text? Seems like a waste of bandwidth, to me.
This is going to ruin the ascii art scene, you realize? Hehe...

That's an excellent point. Math is not too much more advanced now than it was in the days of the Greeks.

It's already been established that this was a weekly world news article in disguise. Why the hell is it being reposted?
Ok guys, April fools was like two weeks ago...you really got me that time. Woo..hehe... This is a joke, right?
Wow. Heather Newnan is Stupid - yes, thats stupid with an S...So much for trying to emphasize a point...

In other words, Metallica sucks.
