In some ways I wish I had never played Baldur's Gate because I been nothing but disappointed by rpg games since then. Guild Wars is great but I don't always have the time to get into an online rpg, although you can pick up an npc party and sally forth in the countryside. I was hoping Dragonshard might be something but it was only a mutant rpg / rts abortion. At this point I'd be happy if Bioware or someone just came up with some expansion packs for Tales of the Sword Coast I would be ok with the 2d If I could get a good story with good character voice acting, for that matter, throw some Planescape in there while you are at it.... What happened, did all the good folks that wrote those games die, or was it Atari that produced too many steaming piles so the smell made everybody run away.
I can see how it would be nice to have a high capacity blu-ray for back up purposes. However for the movies it looks like 15 to 30 gigs is all that's needed. How long b4 memory becomes cheap enough so you can fit an hd movie on a usb type thumb drive cheaply. Thats a nice little package to ship a movie in. I am getting hd movie format already from my satellite service which I can record to my pvr. There is no reason to run out and buy a blu-ray disc drive which will be crippled with drm. As for games dvd is plenty of storage for most games, I don't think many people will wait for Sony PS3 just for blu-ray. And then there is broadband tv and movie download just around the corner, by the time they finish fighting over their drm, hd vs blu-ray, people won't care, there are and will be alternatives to get hd content.
What really annoys me is the number of gas stations etc. that print my account number on the receipt. This forces me to pack around a wad of receipts in my back pocket till I get home to my shredder. I suppose we all should get used to using more actual money.
I just purchased a hi def projector. My original plan was to use my mulimedia pc as the main source. I soon discovered that satalite tv was the only hi def source of any magnitude. Switch to plan b. I still use the pc for some game and for the dvd, but for eye poping movie experience it's hi def satalite.
Am I going to buy a blu ray player thats got all that kludge? I'll go pay per veiw and record the ones I want to see again on my pvr. The pvr has usb ports which are hopefully soon to be enabled, this should allow me to dump stuff to my pc, if not I could still upgrade the hard drive in the pvr to hold all the movies I need....Sorry Blockbuster
Indeed,TOS was ahead of it's time. Some great stories, (Assignment Earth was my favourite). And some of the best character interaction of any series. However when I watch these shows now, what still hits me the most is the endless supply of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. It seems they had godesses just cueing up to be in the show.
Yes also consider that artists are also signing up with Itunes exclusive. If this becomes a trend and the artist can skip the bull and sell thier music directly to Itunes and have them promote it. They could find things backfiring mighty quick. I would love to see this blow up in thier face. Apple has the potential to become a powerful label in web space, because the big labels just don't get it.
Use Itunes to burn a CD of the tunes you wish to export. Rip the cd to mp3 I believe Itunes will do this for you. Use the mp3 as you wish, drm is now gone. You could also use Apple Lossless, aiff or wav if you wish.
I found sed to be usful when I was writing shell scripts.
Find for shure. And to amuse myself wall, for example, fortune -o | wall (add escape codes to kill your banner). Also ps can be important when things go wrong.
It was ok to use your nick for abuot six months then they nuke it. If they did not allow this nick up front fine. But to allow you to use it and build a relationship then come down on you is wrong. They should parse the names and filter that stuff up front. It shouldn't be too hard to check that stuff using a dictonary.
I have used the forth language to write some programs in the past and that ps code example is similar. Puting parameters on the stack then calling the function "10 10 moveto". I alwas thought that ps script was an extension of the forth language.
The computer I lusted for the most was the Amiga 3000 UX http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A3000UX.
I would say this was one place where they really screwed the pooch. They could have sold this to the education market big time.
I have also noticed this, you only have to mention the word, "audiophile" and you can observe an instant negative response. I find it ironic that now that it is ok to be a geek that the geeks are bashing a group because some consider them odd.
I would say this is Windows biggest weakness. I don't consider any OS that is not set up for file privilages for individual users to be anthing but a toy OS. I tred to set up a non admin account, but the biggest problem I had was changing ownership. Have you ever tried to change ownership of a directory using XP? It seems to require booting into safe mode. Even after doing this I was not able to open files, XP forgot which applications to use on file types. I was only able to fix this by booting into Linux and copying the directory to a partion shared by Linux and XP.
I'ts not amazing but even Linux makes you walk through the network install. And I watched the cable guy screw with it for about an hour with XP, I got BSD to do it with sysconfig. Irix just did it.
I just installed Irix on a couple of old SGI machines, an Indigo2 Teal, and an Iris Indigo. I could not resist the looks of these boxes, SGI makes the most attractive computers, however I do suffer from Mac Cube lust. I am typing this on the Iris Indigo. Irix was the only system I ever saw that I never had to tell anything about the internet. It figured out my router etc and never asked me anything. Also when I went to set the clock it had figured out the time and date as well. With only 1 gig drives there is some juggling of software to run but I am really impressed with this system. I seem to be stuck with some older browsers for the web but I think these things are cool. I can't wait to get my hands on the 3d glasses to try. I like you, wish SGI had entered the lower cost market with a purple box or somthing. I guess it dates back to when that bonehead swung the company into going NT, then when it started to sink jumped into a cushy job at Mirosoft. A curse upon whats his name. Oh well I am still rooting for SGI they still make great stuff: http://www.sgi.com/
Here's a scenario for you. Me and a friend were out sportbike riding around MtBaker, we were into some twisties I was slightly behind my buddy. I look to the left and see a group of fellow Canadians at the side of the road it looks like there's a problem. I start flashing my hi beam and honking my horn but my partner is in Ducati World and sees nothing but the next corner to attack. So I turn around and figure he will notice sooner or l8tor and turn around. It turns out This fellow lost it in a corner, he was ok but his vfr was bent, we straightened the front end as best we could, then they headed back home and I continued on to hook back up with my partner. I checked the restaurant at the parking lot of the ski hill but while I was there my partner went by the other way. I never found him. by the time was able to get him on his phone he was back at the border and I was having lunch at the next tavern. If we could have stopped and located each other using this it would have been a better day.
I had a Rixon phone modem. It had a rotary dial and some push buttons on the bottom. You dialed your bbs number then when you heard the carrier you punched the button and you were connected at 300 baud. I later upgraded it to 1200. You could also use it as a regular phone and being a dataset the sound quality was pretty good. I kinda miss that thing after reading the article.
There was a Fantastic Four movie made that was never released. I wonder how it compares to this one. The new version looks like another cookie cutter plug in the latest desirable bodys play. I might see it when it comes out on dvd if I'm bored.

Why not aTv Playlist, ala Itunes, kind of like mabey Itv.
It seems these days "engage" is quit popular.

Also in the original Blood PC game: http://www.videogamereview.com/cat/pc-games/classi c-pcgames/classic-action/gt-interactive/PRD_81330_ 1460crx.aspx there was at least one line used, "good bad I'm the guy with the gun" when you beat the final boss, But the voice was Clint Eastwood like.

Really, what kind of tone deaf bonehead would listen to tunes on a cell phone. It's sad but I guess there will be a maket for this.
