But, you probably don't need a watch. Your cel phone, car, coffee pot, desk phone, computer(s), microwave, car and God knows what else all tell time for you.

So why do people still buy watches? Status and adornment. Plus there's that collecting thing. Essentially they're either bought for the jewellry value (hey, is jewellry obsolete?) or for the complicated mechanics inside them - the "movement" as the guts are called.

I second that, in regards to SuSE's X11 config utility. What I remember most about it is, is the fact that I could *NOT* put my three monitors in the order I liked. It kept trying to put them above and below each other, what the fuck is that? After giving up on that, I copied my old XF86Config-4 file to my SuSE install and all of a sudden X wouldn't boot. Same version of X as my Debian install, but SuSE just bitched.

You are allowed to protect your own property with reasonable force. If someone tries to steal your car, you can perfectly legal pull him out of the car and kick him a few times to keep him down. Shooting the idiot is most obviously going too far.

Specifically speaking to Debian I see no reason to have a LiveCD installer. With the current XFS install disc I have Debian installed in less than 10 minutes. I don't want to extend that to 15 or 20 to surf the web for 10 minutes (which I can easily do with my other machine anyways, heh). Now for something like Gentoo I always use knoppix to install it (don't like the Gentoo LiveCD much).

I completely agree. The debian installer is the only one that has never failed me. It's simple, fast, and efficient. I can install a debian system in about 10 minutes flat from the standard or XFS boot disk. (That includes the time it takes for me to download the initial packages).

The problem is that it pushes the right sidebar content down WAY too far. If it was a small, square ad -- like the size of the topic icons in the top right I could deal with it. But when they push the poll and old news a page down it gets highly annoying. I dunno how much longer I can read /. like this -- espcially since 90% of the time I refresh I get a vertical ad.
