  1. It took me forever to figure this out.. on Camera Meets Speedometer, Travel Across Country Together · · Score: 0, Redundant

This guy hacked his camera to his speedometer, and ended up taking a picture EVERY MILE during a trip across the US.

I eventually realized he meant odometer.

  2. MCSE Bashing on Microsoft To Start Running Anti-Unix Ads · · Score: 3, Interesting
Look, an having an MCSE does not mean that you should actually be trusted to know what you are doing. That's what interviews are for. On the flipside, having a MCSE doesn't meant that you don't know what you are doing.

If you hire a MCSE because 'they are cheap' then you'll get what you deserve... I, for example, am a well qualified MCSE, but I don't come cheap.

  3. Troll doll on Web Surfing Losing Its Luster · · Score: 4, Funny

Sure, but trolling Slashdot is still a well-respected pastime.

PC-makers are not interested in sending an ever increasing share of their revenue directly to Microsoft. 10 years ago, DOS made up less than 2% of a computer's total price, today that number is over 10% and rising every year.

    Damn, DOS has gotten expensive!

I have thought for a long while that I would love to directly support /. I am not at all shy of putting my money where my mouth is, however I'm conflicted about their proposal.

It seems to me that the $5/1,000 ads is basically just enough to cover the lost ad expense. So, it seems like /. makes the same amount of money whether I contribute or not. The only difference is whether I see the ads?

Ironically, I would pay to support Slashdot, but I am not sure that I'll pay to avoid seeing the ads.

I can understand (maybe...) why they want a subscription fee, but all of these services require a phone line. I have a cable modem, and a cell phone, but no home phone line. So, the monthly cost for me is phone-line + Tivo fee. That makes it unattractive. Is there any reason that the Tivo can't read the TV Guide info that is already in the broadcast stream on cable???

We could run pipes all over the house (to the refridgerator, the Air Conditioner, etc) and dump their excess heat into the cold water line...we may not need a hot water heater at all.

Ok, it's a loony idea, but I have to find some reason to justify a water cooled PC to my wife.
