You know that little text in the Instant Message and E-Mail window that says "AOL Will Never Ask You For Your Password"? It really means AOL will never ask you for your password (or credit card number for that matter). With that said, it is surprising at how many people will reply with their password or credit card number when someone pretends to be part of AOL's staff.
Amsterdam Avenue and 93rd Street on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, a lazy summer midday. Young woman in belly shirt, standing at the southwest corner, steps off sidewalk to cross against the light. A massive truck, speeding, turns the corner, just narrowly averting squishing her like a bug. Young woman doesn't flinch or even seem to notice; she's yapping on her cell phone like it was the most important conversation in the world

windows media player 7 (or 8 or whatever version is installed with xp) only uses 10MB. winamp3 also has issues with loading playlists of mp3s on windows shares. it spent 5 minutes trying to load my playlist and then generated a program error. winamp3 sucks (resource usage-wise), you will be better off sticking to winamp 2.x and using a video input plugin
Name hardware that microsoft makes (besides the XBox) that crashes.
I will remember to reboot my sidewinder the next time it locks up and let it automatically download updates through my game port so I can't press the C button anymore.

This is just an example. Solaris has a libftp.so in/usr/lib. ftp uses libftp. You want to make your own ftp program but you don't know the functions in libftp.so. Do we all chide solaris for not releasing this information? No, because why should Solaris have to give you this information? Its not too hard to create your own libftp that does what you want it to do, instead of being locked in by another developer's work. I hate all of this 'the APIs are undocumented' crap that is spewed everywhere. I don't think anyone was complaining about not being able to use the functions in mso.dll when Office 95 first came out.
Convatec (a Bristol Meyers Squibb company) had this same sort of vending machine in their main lobby for more than 5 years now. You insert money, press the corresponding button and a mechanical hand picks out the item and gives it to you. So its not even new to the USA, its just new to slashdot.
its most definitely "there yet" if you are talking about files encoded below 128kbps. have you compared a 128kbps or greater ogg vorbis file to an mp3? ogg vorbis does not blow away mp3. not to mention the cpu usage that ogg still needs (yes its a moot point for computers nowadays, but think about the portable devices). ogg isn't going to replace mp3 until it can beat mp3 at everything mp3 is good at (much like linux isn't going to beat windows!)
Simple, post all mp3 decoder downloads on a geocities or other free site that doesn't report how many hits you have per file. You don't know how many times its been downloaded, so you can't pay an exact price
The first show they air on tv is not the pilot. The pilot episode generally never gets aired

If you never thought you'd read a book about genetics, (or even if you have) then this is the book for you. Ridley shows how the genetic map that is being developed for us will lead us to many of the answers that we have sought about ourselves. He explains in basic terms how genetics and evolution works. The most amazing part of this book is that it is extremely enjoyable to read. While still in the second chapter I was contemplating reading it again. If you have any interest in how we got to be what we are and what the future may hold for us, (or if you want some great party trivia) then reading 'Genome' will be both entertaining and enriching.
I'm sure ATI could aquire another company and market a CONSOLE ONLY video chipset. Since the CONSOLE MANUFACTUROR would have to verify that it works, bad drivers for a video game CONSOLE SYSTEM would not do much good for ATI now would it? As for your ati drivers, who uses ati for playing games? My All In Wonder is fine for doing whatever on the web and watching tv. I still use my GeForce 3 for playing games though. If you must bitch about having a tv tuner and playing games, invest in nvidia's personal cinemia and stop your damn bitching on slashdot.
Just who would MS switch to at this point? Number 9? Oak? Cirrus? ATI? Haha, with their crummy crash-prone drivers? I know, they'll resurrect Voodoo.
I haven't seen the gamecube crash yet.

That's one of the '25 things you must do to succeed in business,' which is one of the stories in this, I have to say it, classically funny book. I have yet to find a page that hasn't made me laugh. Every story? No. But 98 percent of them? Yes. And there are hundreds that take you through the whole New Economy, from the early 90's through now. Too many favorites to mention, but here's two: Based on a true story, the 'Postcards from the Ex' are postcards from companies like Citigroup and Procter & Gamble who write to ex-employees who left for dotcoms. Here's one: 'Jonathan, 'We've done a lot of thinking since you walked out the door to join online retailer Cyberian Outpost, and you know, you were right. We really are all about making money. We envy your freedom. Sincerely, Citigroup' And there's a great one about Cisco that starts: 'The rumors about Cisco Systems have been circulating for months, but the earnings warning and plunge in its share price have left little doubt in investors' minds that Cisco is not just a famous stock, but may in fact have been operating as a large company that makes complex and incomprehensible equipment related to technology.' Yes indeed, this book is great great great.
