Not knowing much (read: anything) about SDL and ALSA on windows, my guess is they dont want to be stuck supporting that if theres any problems with it. Why bother with that hassle when the numbers of people donwloading and actually USING the linux version are so small compared with that of windows?
Nono, I understand about the nigh on infinite binary packages, but in what situation (okok, other than a server, say) would you use the flags?
Im just getting into Debian myself and I love the way you can get everything sorted and up and running by simply saying "apt-get install gnome" - it'll give you everything, gnome, X, etc..
As you say though "Some people don't have any problem with installing the extra samba stuff even if they're never going to use it, but I'm kind of a purist..." - I'm guessing its more of a personal preference as to whether you do or not?
great, but.. why? I can only guess that its a personal opinion, but for me, i'd rather download and install faster than save disk space, which seems to be the idea to me.
Or maybe we weaken the second requirement by distinguishing between promiscuous and non-promiscuous addresses. My friends email me at one account, and if I could I'd give each of them a separate address. People I trust less get different accounts. People who break the trust find that the address disappears, and because those addresses aren't promiscuous, relatively few other people are inconvenienced by that. I've effectively whitelisted those addresses.
This is the one I like best - company webforms get priv.companyname@mydomain. Friends go on a whitelist, or if I think theyre likely to send me "gre@t d3@ls!!~!" or offers of MS sending me money for testing stuff, then they get a webmail address.
Anything gets compromised, it gets dropped or blacklisted.
In the middle of last season there was talk about it being cancelled along with a few other shows.. some other shows got cancelled and Ent got rescheduled to another time spot afaik.
Cerebral roots? Where/when/what are you talking about? TNG? TOS? I didnt really catch enough of voyager to create a view on it - the few i did see weren't too bad though and they seem to be repeating on the likes of Sky One:(
Personally, I'm quite enjoying Enterprise, although I will admit the whole Xindi thing is getting a bit long in the tooth now.. It certainly has promise, in the whole how-we-got-started thing.
seemed to me to be mostly the same as what itunes came out with.. I can't find anything on there (that i know and like) that I cant find more of on itunes
Companies that join working groups should be forced to say "right, these are my patents, i'll share with you and if i pull out, i cant use them against you".
If Microsoft start patenting things the group is working at making, waiting until the standard is out to start suing (Hi, my names Rambus, id like to help you with your DDR tech!), or perhaps even joined, had a look what the groups doing, realises they have patents that covers it then pulls out.. ooh, i'll be angry!:/
Clearly you havent been following HL2 then?

id have ALWAYS used OpenGL for the graphics rendering. But they use DirectX for sound on windows, which is what will take time to convert to *nix..

i think he meant:
Intel confirms it, Netcraft (and others) are dying!

The best comedy always seems to be left alone by the mods, shame :)

Duke Nukem indeed..
Or perhaps extortion?
.. and Windows 95 was 9, just yesterday!
I'm missing something here..
You're saying that companies only join standards committees in order to find out if they can sue each other??
Now its exposed to teh spamb0ts, you insensitive clod! :)
And its not as geeky..
ooh, now that one i didnt know about! at least theyve not tried collecting royalties... have they?? :o
But geez, that is one major patent! Surely even MS wouldnt have the guts to try and collect on that one?

What are you, a Gnome developer? :)
normally when pasting, Word puts on one of those little smart tags, which will let you remove formatting, amongst other things
