  1. Universal Basic Income Prediction on Finland's Universal Basic Income Called 'Useless' By Trade Union Economist (bloomberg.com) · · Score: 1

Other than the Trade Union Economist are called research 'Useless' by being 'Useless'.

Finland's Universal Basic Income research will very like reflect the Hierarchy of Needs like some commenters noted.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
except it will have more in between ranks.

Basically if the UBI is high enough, a lot of people that found out their Physiological needs and maybe Safety needs are met will be looking for a higher need. This is the part where we get maybe 75% of the test population will be lazy and look forward to do lazy things, watch tv, gaming, entertainment, relationship, etc. 25% of the test population look for an even higher need with variety of goals with just maybe less than 10% will move forward to something better (higher pay, new researches, volunteer, etc).

In fact, teenagers and the retired will be a good reflection on the research result. They rarely think about food, water or shelter and watch what they do when they're free. Most do lazy things, very few go for a higher needs.

The only drawback is that when they are looking for lazy things, we will need a lot of entertainment contents (like what we see in today's world), otherwise some will be doing a lot of unexpected/ unwanted things. Before when everyone is focus on getting a job, we have focus on sustaining and everything around money. With UBI, everyone will get bored. We will need to focus more on entertainment to get their boredom away. (are we in a matrix?)

Overall UBI will resolve only a part of the issue, while we will need another solution for the other issue to constantly ease humans need and another solution if we want to promote more innovation.

  3. Mandatory Police Body Cameras on Face Recognition + Mandatory Police Body Cameras = Mass Surveillance? (siliconvalley.com) · · Score: 2

Mandatory Police Body Cameras = Lots of Selfies

Mandatory Police Body Cameras + Government only = Mass Surveillance

Mandatory Police Body Cameras + Full Public Access = Public Display

The Mandatory Police Body Cameras were implemented to avoid polices from shooting random black people and getting away with it. A lot of innocent people were killed with no justice with cops overpowering them in court, while other times police have a hard time presenting their judgement on the situation.

Case in point, it was to protect the citizens and the polices from corruption. The citizens see the police with the camera and believe the officer will follow order (and not kill them). The polices see the citizen behaves to avoid being sued.

As long as the citizens can review the result (any corruption from police), it is a fair system, which is better than the they have money and win lawsuits regardless of you're right or wrong. Some other points, the polices should be able to record as long as he/she is in a public location. The citizens should have the right to decline those polices from entering private properties, and the cameras should also be in a closed system without internet to avoid hacks.

Face Recognition on the other hand... is stupid. Unless the camera concluded the subject as a criminal (recorded stealing), why would they need face recognition (using thief face to find name)? To mark wrong targets and show how bad software companies are? We know polices are stupid and companies are incompetent. We don't need more stupidity in this world.

Unless you earn over 15mil, I don't think any 14 year old will pay upfront.

Back to topic, the point is not really directly related to 3rd party engine but about their view on license and development control with business issue. Nintendo own business isn't doing well for some time adding to more and more developers not in favor of developing in an extreme closed garden (Nintendo console) has made them worse. Their current stand is hoping more developers will come back to develop for their Nintendo Switch instead of iOS or Android by adding a bridge to make it looks more open (until you read the Nintendo publish license/ cost).

  12. 70% of the time means if you ask the patient 100 times if they like green eggs with ham, the machine should give you either 70 no's with 30 yes's or 70 yes's with 30 no's.

    Also

the machine can read your thought 40% of the time and then the remaining 60% is a coin flip

is not a great way to look at probability. We could say the same thing like this,
the machine can read your thought 70% of the time and then the remaining 30% will surely fail. Or
the machine can read your thought 0% of the time and the remaining 100% is a chance of 7 out of 10 die roll.

In the end, you've just confused yourself.

The easiest way is to do this." 70% of the time" means EACH time they pick a decision, there is 70% chance that the machine return the same as the choice they picked.

For example, you have a 6-sided die (dice for plural) and you wanted number 1-4. you roll it once. "66% of the time" you will get 1-4 from that roll. If the die is fair and after you roll it 100 times, it will STILL be "66% of the time" that you get 1-4. In that case, "66% of the time" the die will return a number you want.

  16. Very good point. The interesting thing is while most of us will think that the personality test is and either or pick, it can in fact vary depend on your type. Heck, it can even change if your type is interchangeable.

E & I point in two different directions, but they seem more as a comfort zone measurement than anything. If you are likely to be more comfortable being with someone, you are more Extrovert. If you are likely to be more comfortable being alone, you are more Introvert. It doesn't mean you can't create an environment that the typical Extrovert became Introvert or vice versa. If that person is comfort with any zone, they are considered Extrovert but they are Introvert at the same time.

S & N also point in two different directions and depend on how creative you see information. Some people just can't create so they just focus on concrete information, then they are Sensing. Some people always create new ideas, being Intuition. However from a noticeable trend, we can easily enhance people to be closer to Intuition or suppress thinking to be Sensing (North Korea, China, etc).

T & F and J & P are harder to vary as one can contradict the other quickly. Some people put emotion first, then they are more Feeling. Other people put idea first, then they are more Thinking. Although there are in between case, they are least likely to change (People dying from hunger, you feeling sad for them? or you thinking about stupid poor country system?). If you prefer hard rules, you are more Judging. If you prefer flexibility, you are more Perceiving. (How to use a barometer to measure a building height? If you answered by taking the pressure measurement from the barometer, you are Judging. If anything else, you are Perceiving)

but a lot is going on in the classroom -- there is so much to look at inside it and out the window.

This is a little worrying, since we are told that a rich classroom environment stimulates the young mind. It almost sounds as if we should go back to the drab, austere, classrooms of past decades. That way the children will have few distractions and will be better able to pay attention to their teacher.

This is because learning is also a form of distraction... let's flip that around to make more sense of it. All events including distractions and learning are a type of things humans can focus on. So in short, adding some stuff in the classroom enhance some focus which also enhance other learning. Have you notice that most rich classroom environments have some type of classroom materials? like English class with color letters A-Z? These are distractions, but it is also meant to make the children focus on those distractions to learn rather than on other things not related (they really should remove the clock...). They are also encouraging the children to explore and learn.

There are counter points in terms of over distraction, which is why classroom with distractions closely related to the subject are more effective and as we grow the classrooms have fewer distractions as we 'should' no longer need distractions to learn.
