"...but each student's circuit had different coefficients, requiring individual work. These tutorials provide immediate feedback so students donï½t have to wait to find out if they applied the principles correctly."
that's true for many courses where i did my undergrad (mcgill). people still copy everything they can off others (especially girls because they would never need to do anything with all the desperate guys trying to 'help' them... but that's another story)... so if they cant copy the values, they still take lab reports and copy-paste the explanation/methodology parts because those are pretty much the same.
however i do think this is a good idea, since it looks like the teacher-student ratio is a lot more balanced in courses like this, and having industry people coming in to help out in the course makes the students feel better about themselves when they get something working... but again, it's MIT... it's expensive and you get what you paid for in your tuition... well better than bloody canadian schools anyway.
here, it's required for CE students to take discrete math, but the faculty does not offer any course in logic synthesis, formal verification, or any other course that follows up and needs the application of that. so after we spent an entire semester learning it, it goes away twice as fast. hands on courses are good because they dont go away that fast.
intro/progrmaming courses still need to stay.. it's embarrassing that some people graduating in EE/CE still cant even write a simple C program (, and yet those are the people that have better GPAs than I)..
welll, in the end, what the heck.. no fresh grads have jobs anyways...! postgrad is our refugee.
i agree with you. i miss the dark goth thing too. it's that same exact feeling that i missed from watching the trailer of the first matrix... with enigma's 'eyes of truth' song playing in the background....
from the revolutions trailer, i sort got that feeling back... in scenes where neo and agent smiths are in the middle of this long rainy road... and the part with trinity doing what looks like the same lobby fight sequence from the first movie... and you get to see some s&m guy with a mask on getting his ass kicked by trinity... that dark dark look is just so awesome
i do agree with you. lot of people didnt even like the first one. the special effects is just a way to deliver points. they brag about the CGs not done to perfection.
i personally think the dialogs with counseler hanmann (spelling?), oracle and the architect were awesome. they fuck around with our minds even more than the first film, and that's the reason why many of us went to see this film. fortunately we do have a lot of fans that do get the philosophy aspects. take a look at the +5 posts.
in enter the matrix, the oracle isnt played by gloria foster... i supposed she passed away by the time the game was filmed. also, the bodyguard (seraph) wasnt played by collin chou.
matriculated was the most bizzare one out of the 9... the people were to reprogram the machines, and by the end of the clip, the machine it was trying to reprogram had feelings for the human.... hmmm...so machines are supposed to have feelings now? and the "world" in the clip looks very bizzare too.... maybe that's the new "real world" after zion is destroyed?
i agree with you about kid's story. that immediately came to my mind when i was watching the film. i'm just thinking now if the kid's going to play a significant role in revolutions.
the scene where neo was able to stop the sentinel machines.... here's my reasoning
(anyway neo pants and faints - probably showing signs just like the original matrix of him not being ready and "maybe waiting for something"...(oracle))
perhaps, the world is made up of several layers of matricies. the 'real world' as shown in zion is probably another matrix level, since neo was able to control the sentinel machines. the constant comments about 'failsafe' mentioned throughout the movie is one of the biggest hints.
i'm thinking this has to do with the big bang theory that the world started off with one entity (1 matrix). each revision of the matrix is really adding new layers of improvement of matrix, ie, the layers of the matricies are also expanding. (you also see this near the opening 'credits' where they zoom out the code and it looks like as if it's part of a small galaxy.... and also the part where morpheus says "goodnight zion" looking at zion's lights where everything looks like stars filling a night's sky)
so this may have to do with the notion that humans always will continue to fight for freedom (freeing themselves one level highter) while the world will always continue to "expand". (extension of the big bang theory also says the world may eventually collaspe back to it's original exploding source - the end of the world.)
the constant perfecting of the matrix talked by the architect -- 6 previous versions - may have to do with genesis (bible) that the world was created in 6 days... each day being a step towards creating the world that we believe that we are living in today.
lawrence fishburn said in an interview ones that in the 1st movie, morpheus is a leader (or something like that), 2nd movie: general, and 3rd movie: man. maybe he's "unplugged" and reborn in the "REAL-REAL" world? or is that just realizing that the prophecy is just bullshit...?
i'm too lazy to register to file this bug, but the linux phoenix/firebird build has problems rendering the style sheets http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/index
did you add any knoppix sources in your apt-sources? like you, i'm running debian unstable, but i'm interested to try those hardware autodetection utilities...
this shall now be my procmail autoresponse to filter all those annoying unwanted emails. just reply with those html tags and outlook will crash on their computer. ha!
and magically their odor would start to disappear too. would also be nice if they washed their hands after using the bathroom. we use the same keyboards they've been using...
by 2010, the number of slashdot workers will double. the number of repeated stories will double, and the people complaining about repeats will double. the number of first posts will also double
i know people graduated with an electrical/computer engineering degree working for microsoft. personally, i think it's a disgrace for everyone else with an engineering degree to work there. and cs majors who think they are better than them think they're engineers as well.
you can easily get cs knowledge without going to university, but you cant work in an engineering position without.
programmers like to call themselves software engineers because it makes them feel good about themselves. it's like every junior MS programmer calling themselves product engineers.
i'm still using debian unstable for my linux partitions. been thinking about doing a switch-over... can anyone tell me why i would want to do a switch over. btw, is mandrake having easier font setup out of the box?
A job is just a job. You earn your shit from 9-5 and get out of there, it's what you do to pay the bills so that you don't sit at home twiddling your knob all day
in your case, you might want to consider prostitution. you have more flexiable hours, be able to pay your bills, AND sit at home twiddling your knob all day (but when you're a prostitute, you wouldnt need to.. unless you look like a sterotypical programmer....;)
since you're going to sell your soul anyway, why not sell your body - at least when you sell your body, you get to benefit the ones that buy your product!:)
well not only do they bribe, they spend money on other intersting things too... like hiring a pornstar for their party!

yep, or...

i usually try to delete all the development packages possible... (i just did that after a hdd-install of knoppix)
dpkg -l | grep '\-dev'
and remove all the ones on that list...

the windows build have no problems with this.

i've made myself very accessible, and time after time, i've been used by females...

honestly, i think RIAA deserves an icon on slashdot... or a topic by itself...
speaking of high speed internet... when are we supposed to expect to have internet2 available?

Computer is safest when it says:
