    MacOS doesn't run on cheap, available-everywhere, commodity, x86 hardware.

    I don't get this argument... so should everyone drive Hyundais? They're cheap and available everywhere?

    Maybe...

    but I bet the Lexus, Mercedes, BMW, Infiniti, etc, drivers don't give a damn as their more expensive cars *just work* and don't need the same level of maintenance the rest of us take for granted as just part of what goes with owning a (cheap) car...

    Please note that Saturn has a similar reliability rep as those above marks *and* is inexpensive, yet they're not taking over the auto world...

    Quite often, despite what it appears a LOT of Slashdotters think, purchase price doesn't mean a thing...

    And I ran a PowerMac 8500/120 (from 1995) till last year (6 years) with proc (g3 400, $225) and ram (768MB, $110) and disk (18GB SCSI-2, $100) upgrades. And I ran OS 9.x successfully and 10.1 just fine too (with Ryan Rempel's XPFextension package...

    And while I can't prove it to you in person, OSX ran a ton better on an G3 400 than WinXP did on the PIII450s I doled out to employees when we upgraded boxes this fall... P Sure, I could have bought a new iMac for the money spent, but from a install/archive/manage standpoint, it was a win...

    Perhaps this will have the happy side effect of demonstrating to the polits that spam has true costs to recipients, not only in transfer-across-the-wire and storage costs, but in management costs as well.

    For most people in your company, the "slowness" is going to be way more than offset by stability and the productivity it yields: not just in terms of time lost rebooting, but also for sysdamins restoring whacked documents from backup since 95 GPF'd and F'd up an important spreadsheet or presentation.

    When the GPL denies users access to something useful, because it generates the impression that the GPL is anti-user. (Trolls and dumb modders, note that I didn't say the GPL was anti-user, but that these types of incidents create that impression).

    This is unfortunately the kind of thinking Microsoft would love to perpertuate and here they didn't have to raise a finger or spend a cent.

    Just providing a viewpoint from outside the GNU rules! Linux-uber-alles camp...

    That would require spending thousands of dollars on proprietary hardware. It's kind of missing the point of Linux.

    Getting something for free is also the point of Linux for a *LOT* of people and that's not in the favor of a game developer.
