There are more than just teens on there. More and more mature users are using it. I used to hate on the site, but once I tried it, it was like crack.
Try it. You'll like it.
Hmmm.... I can't imagine why a place like the Bay Area where houses start at half a million dollars isn't competative with a place like India. Actually, I can't belive that the Bay Area is competative with anywhere is the world. If the damn tree-huggers in the Bay Area would allow high density growth which would lead to more affordable housing, the Bay Area could continue as the high tech center of the world.
Just tie some padding onto the turbine blades! I bet that a treehugger tied to every turbine blade might give the birds enough padding. The treehuggers would actually be useful for a change too!
You insensitive clod!
In Spain there are 5 languages, not just one!
(Basque, Gallego, Catalan, Valenciano, Castellano)
And the proper name of the language you speak of is Castellano not Espanol (damn English keyboards)
Mod this post up! It serves as a good warning to all the idiots out there that while you may get away without RTFA, you must absolutely RTFP AND understand it. Have we really become so lazy that we can't even take two seconds to think before we post? Oh, wait, this is slashdot....
In a similar vein, get drunk and then throw-up all over the computer. Try as you might, the smell will never completely go away no matter how much you clean!
The USA has not TAKEN more than 50% of the world's wealth, WE HAVE MADE IT. The US has generated most of the wealth in the world in the past 20 years.
What do we (the greedy bastards) do with this wealth? We spread it to poorer countries by bying their products that are made at a cheaper price because most of our workers are being used in a more productive manner and making more money than their 3rd world counterparts.
Everyone is saying that we should set up a fund for this little girl and her family. Even if the RIAA paid them the money under the table already, if eveyone on the internet donates it will make a great story for sappy evening news. Look in the articled that the slashdot story is linked to, it has the name of the mother of the girl. It also says that they live in New York. Put two and two together at http://www.whitepages.com
Now some geek out there that will actually do something and knows about these things, call the family and tell them to set up a special fund at their local bank for this purpose, get the account number, and then send a chain e-mail out with this information. This email will go like wildfire! The normal idiots will forward it and maybe donate money, and geeks that are fed up with forwards will actually like it and resend it too. Send off a press release or two to the local news media and bam! WE EMBARASS THE RIAA. True this is slashdot and we talk and talk but never actually do much so I don't think that this will happen. Maybe the EFF could help in some way.
While everyone is complaining, read a little. In the Guardian article, it mentions how DARPA is looking at this as a future project down the road. How far? 25 YEARS!!!!!! Dont talk about wasting money when they are just looking at something that MIGHT be feasable in the future. They arent trying to do it now. It seems pretty reasonable to consider the options that might happen. Long term vision like that is what we need. Look at where we were 25 years ago? 1978, personal computer, Internet? It is very appropriate and right that the government looks at the future to see what might be coming. Remember, if we dont make it, someone else might. At least this way, we are more advanced, or equal to other countries.
This might sound bad but it is better than the Europeans that couldnt really fight a war even if they wanted to. Anyone else hear about the Spanish troops that died when their RENTED plane crashed? They dont even have proper transport. Better that we are prepared than unprepared. If someone attacked Europe, what would they do? Launch the diplomats? They dont have much else.
The Illistrated Man by Ray Bradbury is a great collection of interesting short stories. Its a sci-fi book about the future but it has some really interesting ideas and concepts in in.
Does anyone know if you can get a LCD screen like this fora car that is touch sensitive? It seems like such a pain to have to get a game pad or get some remote, it would be so easy just to touch "movie" and then "play" or to look through MP3s or something like that.
A big concern for me is the current state of our rights in America. Look at the guy that they arrested in Chigago for planning to build a dirty bomb after going to the middle east. No open judicial review, lack of lawyers, no due process, etc. I not so worried about getting convicted for a crime I didnt commit, but what if you are arrested and held in prison like this guy, or what about the Chinese-American that they arrested at Los Alamos national Laboratory and kept him in solitary for 6(?) months. Until we have solid rights, I dont think that we can really trust the government with this kind of thing.
Could this be used for home AV units? If it were touch-sensitive it would make things much cooler than whipping out the wireless keyboard. Also why not use a LCD screen from one of the new units for cars that are the same size as a car stereo, but the screen pops out and folds up? That would be nice!
And all those poor independent contractors that died in the death star, its a shame. So now would those clean up crews be independent contractors or part of the military?
Why are they doing this? Could it be that Clear Channels idea of buying every radio station in the US and put bland, generic, boring music on it isnt making them enough money? Hmmmm, it will be interesting though, how can they turn a lively event like a concert into a bland and generic format? Well, if anyone can kill the joy and excitement of concerts, Clear Channel can!

But what about the terrorists!!!!
Check out this picture and caption. It has to be the best picture and caption from a space mission. http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/cassini/multimed ia/pia05423.html

That's exactly WHY it is such a good idea!

That should read, will be completed - Manana

Yeah, building a brand-new, cutting-edge, bright, shiny, super new jet-fighter with your name on it is suuuuuuuch bad PR.

Wow, now I can impress girls by proving my uber-geek status by wearing a Slashdot t-shirt!

the IIgs rocked! You could go into the control panel and change the speed from 1 Mhz to a whopping 2.4Mhz! Now that was fast!
