IT has nothing to do with the actual quality of the product but the nature of memory that paints everything in the past with rosy tint. It probably wasn't that rosy the first time around.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Wish you hadn't AC'd that, because that's a perfect description of most nostalgia that goes on around this site...
And the whole "The past 10 years have had NO good movies" arguments made below is pure crap. The past 5 years have had more excellent comic book movies combined than all of film history. Hell, they're not just "excellent comic book movies," some of them are simply excellent movies. And while I'll admit that the "Best Pictures" of the last few years do not stack up to some of the past ones (Crash, Chicago and American Beauty are no Schindler's List or Godfather Part II), but if you look at every decade, there are always a few years of "decent movies getting a break in a relaxed year" (Rocky I, The English Patient, Greatest Show on Earth).
Plus, there is little doubt we are living through a 2nd Golden Age of television. The number of HIGH-QUALITY shows in the 00's (including some premiering in late 90s) has been amazing: 24, Alias, Sopranos, Sex & The City, Firefly, Lost, King of the Hill, Family Guy, Grey's Anatomy, Smallville, West Wing (when it was good), etc.
Well, i hear there's simply a lot more windows-interfacing with Windows Mobile. Might be cool to have all your windows programs available 24/7 on-the-go...
I'm a medical student and I just sold my Tungsten T5 (For $280!!! I love Craigslist!) because I wanted to buy myself a Treo. I hated having to carry both a cellphone and my palm, which is kinda bulky.
I know medical software is mostly Palm-based, but there's enough on PPC to get by. How is Windows Mobile in general? Any other comments/suggestions?
Back in the Genesis/SNES days, the cover of EGM would praise the amazing "Mode 7 Graphics" of the newest game. And yes, graphics were important back then. Look at atn Atari game like "Adventure." I simply never enjoyed those horrible games where you moves 1 of 4 directions and pressed 1 button (I was born in 1979, so I also sorta missed the whole Atari craze anyway). If you look at some of the best games now, it's innovation that's leading the way. Graphics are great, and sweet 1080 HD graphics are amazing, but without gameplay, they do little for me (I won't be a gameplay snob - if you like graphics most, that's fine too). Take a look at Nintendo's new offerings here. Seriously... kudos to them for taking a page from Apple and, "Thinking Different."
Sigh. And, my/. article was rejected. Anyway, if you want to discuss Wii and Nintendo products with a small group of Nintendo fans, come to The Wii Talk!
Part 1 was classic. Part 2 was average, but definately had some great lines ("What if... C-A-T really spelled 'Dog?'"). Parts 3 and 4 were utter garbage. I'm glad there's potential to continue this series.
So was the latest Star Wars movie, with the largest budget in movie history.
From boxofficemojo.com:
Production Budget: $113 million
You are WAY off if you think $113 is anywhere NEAR the record. I think what you *may* have read somewhere is the "cutesy" fact that the new trilogy movies are *technically* "The most expensive independent films ever" because they are technically financed by a single individual (George Lucas himself).
I 99% agree with your post entirely. I agree that all it will take it is decent script and a competant director to make a wonderful game (I truly believe that with the correct script, actor and director, and as long as it is made at least 5 years from now, thus far away from LOTR, The Legend of Zelda movie has at least the *potential* to be an absolutely beautiful flick).
The 1% I totally disagree with you is that serious comic-book movies started with 1989's Batman. You're about 10 years and 3 words off:
Superman
The
Movie
That's the beginning, middle, and (mostly, though a tad bit silly but still ok enough) end of how to make a great super hero movie (and I know for a fact that Bryan Singer said his model for X-Men was "The first 3/4 of Superman 1" - and I know Superman Returns will be amazing).

There was one. It was called Lady in the Lake (1947). I'm pretty sure it was a commercial and critical flop, but an interesting experiment.
yes, there is a community. i implied about the masses though. Hell, there's a huge cult-following of "Grease 2," but that doesn't mean the general public likes it...
Microsoft's only been in the game for 1 generation, they don't have far less "Timeless Classics" than Nintendo has with its massive catalog of titles from the past.
But FPS's age like no other genre. NO ONE will play a 2001 game in 2011. No one plays Heretic, Dark Forces or Rise of the Triad anymore. No one. And those 3 games were HUGE in the mid-90's.
A young luke Skywalker reminds me of a young indiana jones. That series wasn't that interesting either.
Yes, but the key difference is that a young Indiana Jones DOES have adventures (and is proven directly by Last Crusade's prologue). GP's idea is that a young Luke Skywalker is not supposed to have any jedi-like adventures, or anything having to do with the Force.
I applaud new products, but hasn't this been done before? Haven't "palmtops" been around for like 5+ years? Is the new innovation simply the price? I'm not bashing MS here, i'm simply wondering what the big breakthrough is. (and if it's the price, then that's fine - I don't recall how much palmtops cost. If they usually cost $2000, then this $500 version truly is special, i suppose...)
Melinda French made out ok :)

FYI - Narnia was pushed to 2008. (but that should make that year more sucessful as well...)
Guy 1: Hmmm, so weird. We released Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness, and it tanked!
Guy 2: Yeah, then we released a new Tomb Raider that was actually pretty decent, and not bug-ridden, and it sold well. Weird!
Guy 1: I know! SO weird!
The Wii Talk is posting a Miyamoto interview that hints at a $200 price at launch to be announced in September at the Tokyo Games Show.

It does look awesome.
Tons of stills here.

OS/2?
Making fun of the name "wii" is so April 2006...

No, the joke was fine - I really liked it. Sometimes hard to tell subtleness on boards though...
