The $100 laptop is being sold at cost right? I'm sure there are geeks out there who would be willing to pay $200 or more for something like this to hack.
In one of my social psychology classes, my professor told us that had been called in as a consultant to the college's elevator system. The elevator system in one building was extremely slow and it would take too much work to replace it.
Instead of messing with elevator, my prof used a bit of social psychology. He had mirrors installed next to the elevator on every floor. Apparently, the self-absorbed students and faculty looked at themselves in the mirrors while waiting for the elevator, and lost track of their waiting time. From what I remember, complaints about the slow elevators got reduced to about 1/2.
Seems to me that her lawyer really doesn't want to take the case. If it were that easy, he could do it pro bono and then make a name for himself defending against the RIAA.
IANAL, but I think you always need a laywer if the other side has a lawyer. Actually, I subscribe to the Have-More-Lawyers-than-the-Other-Side train of thought. So far, I've only needed 3 at any one time.
She should really look hard for someone else to take the case. You really don't send beginners against professionals.
What's that old law saying? Any laywer who represents themselves has a fool for a client. Your called even worse if you aren't even a lawyer.
I've been to that store. It's large, something like 2 or 2.5 times the size of your average EB Games or Gamestop. IMO, the selection wasn't that great--mainly just the recent titles only and, few, if any, used games.
They supplimented the games with T-shirts and other gaming-related items, like anime DVDs, etc.
I always wondered how they stayed in business. Guess I know now.
From TFA : "People can read a lot into a little," Ms. Kaplan said, "but musician K.K. Slider - a guitar-playing cartoon dog - is saying only that he's a free spirit who cannot be bought and sold for any amount of money."
Someguy on some random blog posts a screenshot of K.K. Slider saying "Those industry fat cats try to put a price on my music, but it wants to be free," and then assumes Nintendo Supports Music Piracy.
I think people are boycotting Sony because of the rookit fiasco. I know I skiped out on buying one CD from Sony. Not because I was boycotting on principle--more because I had just heard about the rootkit but didn't know what CDs the rookit was on.
Are the number of graduates that important? What about the number of engineers looking for jobs?
This is my little anecdotal story.
Having 2 engineering roomates, I was friends with a qute few engineers in college. We all graduated around 1997, give or take a year or two.
Out of 20 that I'm still in contact with, I'd say that 6 are still engineers today. Some have moved up to management or higher and, by their own admission, don't do any engineering work. The rest have moved on to other jobs completely.

For some Slashdotters, this is already too late.
We can only hope.
The ones that are high?
That's what it sounded like to me. I can't check the Apple site since its slowed to a crawl.
I've been saving for years now...gonna replace my iBook 500.
The only thing revolutionary about it is from the spin the PR people wrote.
And soon after, customers will call into complain that they don't see anything being written onto the platters.
Don't get caught.
If the Apple store tells me the receipt is in the (e)mail, can I tell them their payment is in the (s)mail?
Too bad Sony's not involved...it could be the ass.
Course, another one will pick up where the 1st guy died.

Check to see where he was living 2000 years ago.
Sometimes I wake up in the morning and there are all these gadgets laying around me.

You don't you mean /dev/null ?
The resolution of reality is amazing. At least 2x better than HD.
No good programs to watch or games to play though, just a bunch of tables and chairs.
They're probably adding another DRM to protect their first level of DRM.
It'll be due out in 2015 once all the standards, licensing, in-fighting and backstabbing is complete.
Sorry, typo...I mean 2051.
Right before the explosion.
j/k
It might be Sony BMG's fault.
