    I think some of our mistakes can be unconscious....But it is no excuse for poor editing

    It's rather odd that the streak is a perfectly straight line.... You would think that if "something" is in the atmosphere, it would curve, possibly degrade in trajectory (stupid friction)

    Even 2 minutes of DC power is quite a hefty load to put on a battery component inside a PC.

    300W @ 110V ~= 3A 110V ~= 25A 12V

    Additionally, the battery would have to be replaced when it wears out - and it will also add a considerable amount of weight to the computer.

    I like the idea of a flash RAM buffer that applications can auto save to.

    QAM = Quadrature Amplitude Modulator

    A cable company uses one of these to modulate a signal down your cable line.

    Why doesn't the checkout system flag each purchase as "returnable" or "unreturnable." Let the customer know on their receipt.

    That would probably deter most of the people who buy stuff and then return it shortly afterward.

    I buy iffy things at retail stores because of their return policies. I can buy it cheaper online, but convenience weighs in.

    Had to smile reading your comment. My friends and I were chatting the other day about what exactly we did before the Internet. We basically centered on more trips to the Library, and more outside activities. I always feel old....

    I can't tell you how many projects I have worked on that are exactly what you described.

    In all honesty, I usually start coding about a week after the customer thinks I do, because it is a given that they will change their mind completely.

    Most people see a cell phone as providing a useful service.

    Computers aren't viewed as providing a service. People assume they are there, they can type stuff into them and have it when they come back. Plus, computer time isn't charged by the minute or anything like that.

    At our "mediocre" school (which a whole lot of people don't think is mediocre), we are using PPC and SPARC in the classroom...You have to remember, engineering is engineering - the fundamentals don't change from school to school.

    My MIPS knowledge came from a research paper I did. Professors love RISC stuff here....We have actually specfically been asked to program non x86 stuff for projects.

    And watch out, if you have been paying attention to the news shots of the riots, I'll have my mediocre UConn friends come flip your car.

    How about salary negotiation?

    I am also graduating in May with CS&E, and have no idea how to negotiate a starting salary.

    I start at $55,000 and see what people say.... So far I haven't been turned down. Am I asking too little?

    Maybe some insight from seasoned professionals that have dealt with this before....

    IANAL

    I don't see that as tampering with evidence. The agency has not subpoenaed them, or the computers, and don't even have a warrant - all they have is the threat that they are coming tomorrow....

    The burden of legal proof is not yet on the family. If the agency sent out a subpoena requiring them to produce the computer, and then they wiped it, it would be destroying evidence, and a procecutable crime.

    A more crafty way would be to short 110V right onto the harddrive. Besides the wonderful light show, you now have a big slab of platters that are just as good as frisbees.

    the list goes on

    Maybe they can install one of these specifically for me. A few kW would be fine.

    I hate getting lumped in with the rest of the idiots that aren't in it for fun, but rather a big paycheck.

    I think in regards to Office Space, I would work with computers even if I had a million dollars.

    Well....public is public. I think everyone gives up their right to privacy in public. Everyone else can see you...so whats the big deal?

    The problem begins when they come into your private residence or area (see wiretapping comments..well...above and below).
