Here's a very funny and well written article about Turbonique history and the insanty of rocket dragsters. Found via Coop's blog with a comment along the lines of "If this doesn't make you tight in the pants, I don't know what will."

I work in advertising. I'm a copywriter, and years ago my art director (most agencies have CW's and AD's work as teams on the accounts) left for another job. When he gave notice, the impetus was to squeeze as much work out of him as possible in the three weeks he had left. I suppose it's because his ideas were the valuable thing, and they needed to be realized before he left to insure the integrity of them (most creatives hate getting handed someone else's idea, only to be asked to just execute the rote parts/prouction of it.).

I don't want to be a downer on you, but were you bringing something to the job that any other person couldn't waltz in and do? I'll admit I know about jack crap about running servers and administering a corporate network, but perhaps, if your specific body being there wasn't a big deal, they decided the security risk (my art director could have easily deleted all kind of archived, un-backed up work if he was feeling nefarious) wasn't worth it.

From all the other posts from people who know the IT industry, it seems that this was par for the course, and you should just enjoy your vacation and prep for your next job. From my perspective, I'd feel I still have some more to offer, ads to button up, website copy to write, etc. before leaving and my agency would want that stuff badly. If that's how you feel, I could see why you'd be bummed (slap in the face, right?). But take heart in the fact that even if you had a ton to offer during the time you offered them, it sounds like it's just a security thing that's likely more dictated by their insurance company than by how they feel about your contributions.

Sorry, FF, but I'm a computer retard, and until I can be up and running in 5 min with a better setup (thanks for auto-importing my Safari bookmarks, though! Nice feature!) I won't use you.

And you, you are one person with an opinion. Just like someone else. Just like me. However, what's not an opinion is that "bubbly" absolutely, without a doubt, means unproductive. What makes someone more productive in a "bare bones" work environment? The fact that their interface looks like the cubicle they work in and they flee to the command line, and get back to work, just to stop from being visually assaulted by their windows?

Remember, this is a NEW project. If you think current bubbly, fruity-pants themes suck, that doesn't mean a new one will. C'mon... buck up. Think positive. You could put frickin' Pokemon characters in my windows, and if stuff is where I expect it and like-functioned items are in similar areas, I'd have a hard time arguing that it's not a "productive" system.

As always, arguing taste is an unwinnable argument, but I think arguing that something with aesthetic appeal to is, by its very nature, unproductive is a pretty poor position.

I don't know how other games progress version to version, as I don't play any of them.

But the THPS folks have pushed the features and fun of the game with each release so much, that I fork over for a whole damn system just to get the fix of the new goods.

All of this is easily customizable from the contol panel for the Shuttle Pro. You can specify program level buttons or bind a global key command to any button you want.
