I too have been subjected to PayPal "review" this afternoon. Twice in one day they asked me to re-confirm my personal information, which I did successfully each time. Then an hour later I received an email that they are freezing my business account until I can provide them with:
1. A bank statement and signature card
2. A valid photo ID (drivers license or passport)
Without any warning whatsoever they have disabled any ability to send outgoing payments, but will accept incoming no problem (while it collects interest on their account).
My favorite part?
"Please do not reply to this e-mail. Mail to this adress will not be received and therefore, not answered."
No voice phone number to reach them at, not even an email address. Just a fax and a web form. Talk about customer service.
I too will be focusing my business transactions elsewhere.
Garmin vs. other Speed Distance Monitors
on
Running for Geeks
·
· Score: 1
I found the Garmin GPS systems, like that in the Garmin Forerunner 201 and Timex Bodylink (which also uses Garmin's GPS technology) to be unsatisfactorily inaccurate at speed and distance measurement.
Just recently, I had the opportunity to field test the Forerunner 201 (fully charged) vs. the FitSense FS-1 Speedometer at an outdoor 12K run across the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. The Forerunner repeatedly kept losing satellite signal, and in the end had over calculated the travelled distance by well over a quarter of a mile. On the other hand, literally, the FitSense watch was right on the mark, off by only 0.01 miles.
If the Forerunner or Bodylink don't have the luxury of a perfectly clear and cloudless day, with abosolutely no tree coverage or tall buildings near by, they're excellent. But that's not a realistic surrounding for most runners. The FitSense uses advanced pedometer technology instead of relying on a GPS signal and throughout my testing has proven to be a much more accurate device. Other noteworthy advanced speed distance monitors include the sleek Nike Triax Elite, it's predecessor the Nike Triax SDM 100, and the ultra lightweight SportBrain pod.
A very similarly natured event is taking place this August 7-8 in San Jose, California titled "California Extreme 2004". Last year there was over 400 video games and pinball machine games on the floor, all set for free play. The turnout and number of games available has been gaining momentum every year.
They (Assembly, Dreamhack, TG) are all quality events. And with any party that large, there are bound to be circles of people you don't agree with; janitors, gamers, or otherwise.
Some party reports suggest that there were as many as 7000 visitors if you include the single-day participants at Assembly 2003. And a confirmed 6600 attendees at Assembly 2002. It's clearly a numbers game as you, Mr. AC, have already pointed out.
Demoparties do take place in the USA, but not with the frequency nor large attendance that one would find at such spectacular events as Assembly or The Gathering.
The next North American Demoparty is going to be held in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 5-7. Refer to pilgrimage.scene.org for details.
From reading this comment (and entire thread) one should walk away knowing never to come to Slashdot for legal advice.
An LLC is good for some, but not everyone. And in California you are (IMHO) over-taxed in the beginning, with their assessment of an $800.00 MINIMUM LLC state tax. There are reasons why companies and corporations are formed in certain states, taxes and laws can differ from place to place.
To recap, always consult an attorney first, not slashdot.:-) And most tax accountants are happy to answer a few questions over the phone as well at the possibility of obtaining a new client.
Chewbacca is a Wookiee from the planet Kashyyyk, but Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor. Now, think about that. That does not make sense! Why would a Wookiee - an eight foot tall Wookiee - want to live on Endor with a bunch of two foot tall Ewoks? That does not make sense!
Idle Dreams is an excellent database which lets you search through almost a decade and a half of textmode and BBS artwork, including ANSI, ASCII, and even Telegrafix RIPscrip imagery. The great thing about it is you can sift through thousands of thumbnails and view the image directly from your browser.
For those who prefer to view their ASCII art files locally (shamless plug), ACiD is now distributing a Windows version of it's viewer appropriately titled ACiD View 6.10 for Windows.
The DARE program routinely obtains arrest warrants this very way. Police officers attend classrooms delivering speeches on the evil dangers of drugs. Afterwards little black "suggestion boxes" are placed at the front of the room and children are encouraged to deposit the names of friends or family members who might have a "drug problem".
While this won't even get consideration, I'm holding off on the Treo, Kyocera, Blackberra combos for now... Why? The Samsung SPH-i500 Smartphone w/Palm OS 5.x is why.
I really like the message Microsoft drives home in Security Bulletin MS03-039 listing the Products Not Affected by This Update:
Windows Millennium (Windows Me) Note Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition (SE), and Windows 95 also are not affected by this issue. However, these products are no longer supported. Users of these products are strongly encouraged to upgrade to later versions.

The QWERTY keyboard lay-out was originally designed to speed up typing by reducing clashes. The layout was not meant to inhibit the typists abilities, but to rearrange the mechanical layout of the typebars so that they were less likely to jam.
Put an end to this atrocity!
No.

Try the Google cache instead.
There's nothing really useful or particularly good at converting bitmaps of any kind to ASCII text, but you could try:
www.degraeve.com/gif2txt.shtml
Rather I'd suggest trying a real ASCII art editor such as PabloDraw for Windows:

Hmmmm.....you sure you haven't been phished?
Yes, I've checked my hosts file, etc., and I'm certainly getting this information directly from the horse's mouth.
