...it'll lead to more than a few "Oh! I didn't know you could do that by pressing that, in Photoshop."
Bear in mind that a whole lot of those "I didn't knows" come from people who still after all these years haven't learned why there are things like Ctrl+V and Alt+F4 in menus, or why apps like Photoshop have (Z) and (V) and (E) and other letters next to the tooltips that pop up on the toolbar. If they haven't been able to figure these things out by now, I'm willing to bet a keyboard like this isn't going to help them much.
Based on this earlier slashdot article, Apple was running a contest where songs and iPods were given away for certain milestones as they approached 500 million. Since the GP post points out the rules to the contest which indicate that free downloads won't be counted, he/she is assuming that free and promo downloads weren't counted in that 500 million. However, the truth is that we really don't know...
I thought the depiction of the less cortorted emotional reactions was very nice, but I felt that the "angry" faces just weren't angry enough. (The yelling looked like talking, for example).
From TFA: The animations are spotty in some areas and I need to make some of the expressions more fluid, but overall I think it's a pretty decent attempt (I need to work a little more on Angry Tom)...I plan on doing at least one more cut of this movie with some of the missing details put in...
I agree that this is pretty damn good as it is, but it looks like he's planning on making it a little bit better.
Is it just me or does anyone else find games fun because all you need is your thumbs?
Ummm, there are quite a few fun games that don't involve using your thumbs. In fact, the only games I can think of that only use your thumbs are video games and thumb wrestling. There's a whole other world out there (if you're willing to leave the basement)...
I think a major distinction between an "upgrade" and a "full install" is that an "upgrade" disc (for Windows at least) requires you to insert a "full install" disc of a prior version of Windows to continue. This means that you need to hang onto several prior versions of discs so that you can perform a clean install of the current version. On the Mac side of things, every disc that comes from Apple is capable of performing a clean install without requiring you to "verify" that you have a prior version (although, due to the single vendor nature of it all, you invariably will).
I've always thought that per box/machine licensing made the most sense. Although, the concurrent user model works well in environments where users float between machines (school computer labs, huge offices, etc). Hence different licensing plans for different scenarios. The whole one license per core thing seems somewhat outdated to my feeble mind...
Very true. What they are calling "sand" is actually more on the order of silt or clay in sedimentary geologic terms. There's a picture of a handy little pocket grain size chart here for reference.
This just makes them look more guilty of sock manipulation...
Oh shit! I better be more careful with my footwear.

...which may work against Nintendo the same way the Atari 5200's 2600 compatibility worked against it.
I believe you're referring to the 7800 here. The 5200 did support 2600 games. However, you needed to buy a cartridge adapter as well as use 2600 controllers. This setup ended up costing about as much as a 2600.
Well, considering the email came from Andreeson, it probably would've been one of the earlier jobs at Netscape (my father had been doing a lot of things with WAIS for a few years by that point). I think the cashout and subsequent fallback to contracting (post-AOL) would've worked out quite favorably for him. As it is, he was more or less forced into early retirement from the gov't, only to be picked up by a contractor who then hired him back out to the gov't at a higher cost than it was costing them initially. But hey, one less government employee, right? Either way, he's certainly not doing too badly for himself. Just one of those random "could've's"...
My dad got an email from some guy named Marc Andreeson some ten or twelve years ago asking if he wanted to come work for his new company. Naturally, my father being a government employee with a decent pension plan decided to toss the email...:-/
CD? No clue. Who? No clue. Apps? I'm gonna guess SoundEdit16 since you mention SWA in the subject line, although it could be the aforementioned l3enc.
My first experience with mp3 audio was while working at a broadcast facility in fall of 96. We had recently bought a few Telos Zephyrs to do remote broadcasting over dual-channel ISDN. Most of what was transmitted was voice, but when they put music on it was amazing how clean and full it sounded. Amazing little boxes, those zephyrs...
I didn't use winplay because I didn't have a Windows machine back then. I do, however, remember using the Telos Audioactive player on OS 7.6 to listen and using the swa export plugin for SoundEdit 16 to make mp3s (encapsulated as shockwave audio).
I'd suggest you check out his weekly column from time to time. He seems to be one of the few tech pundits out there that actually has half a clue. Although sometimes it's obvious it's only half a clue...
Would you rather a kid go out and have sex or kill someone? I think the answer's pretty simple...
Damn right it is! That's why I take little Timmy to the range every weekend and why I vote against any school board members who want to teach him how to use a condom...
OMGWTFBBQ?
According to the most recent episodes II and III...
Are you implying that Lucas might someday go and change these? Cos we all know he would never do something like that...
Holy shit! And look at how many karma whores there are posting the exact same comments again!
This isn't the bass you are looking for...
Does this mean that I'm not really addicted to pr0n? *phew*
If you leave can I have your UID? : D
Anyone know what the various Barbie video games have been rated?

I'm beginning to think Bush might've been prognosticating when he mentioned "the internets."
