  2. Re:Pointless on Help Wire Remote Laos Villages · · Score: 2

You're missing the point. Or maybe you didn't read the article. A bicycle powered computer is being developed for the people in Laos, which is in addition to the internet connection. If even a few farmers are able to find out the weather, it could increase income for crops, and help the country become more developed.

Unveiled in September, the "Dragon" central processing unit boasts speeds between 200MHz and 260MHz, roughly equivalent to models that global chip leader Intel first marketed between 1995 and 1997.

    Later in the article...
"People won't buy the chip just because it's home-made," he told a news conference.

I have the sneaking suspicion that there are other reasons besides the fact that the chip is homemade that makes people not want to buy it...

I don't know about you, but I think it would be worth it to have a cheap backup battery inside the watch to keep the time when the watch loses main power. You know, to make it actually function well as a watch.

Hmm...i'd like to do both, but I'm afraid that the two mods might cancel themselves out somehow...

It's actually highly realistic...if the owner of the phone continues to let the it ring for long enough, the sound of gunshots fired by disgruntled moviegoers is just like the sound of cannons being fired in the real song!

  15. This is strange on Dell Partners with Square · · Score: 2

I find this to be a puzzling move by Square to have aspects/details that only run on a Geforce4. The XBOX basically has a custom Geforce 4 chipset, which obviously is made by NVIDIA. I don't understand why they would target such a chipset on computers, and not the XBOX while they are at it. Maybe Sony won't let them...

  18. Is this guy high? on Thailand's "Q" Banks on Rubber Bullets · · Score: 3, Interesting

Songphon says in three months Precipart will deliver to police in the south the firm's first armoured tuk tuk, Thailand's popular indigenous three-wheeled motorcycle taxi.
    1. I suppose he is going to cover up the sides of the tuk tuk, because it makes no sense to have just an armored canopy and open sides. If he seals it up it won't even be a bicycle anymore, but will be like an armored car, except with only 3 wheels. How original.

2.In reference to the umbrellas: "They are designed for police use in hostage situations," says Precipart consultant Sanpetch Putarak, a retired wing commander
The prototype umbrella is pink. How many police officers would normally be walking around with pink umbrellas?

    3. Police are expected to have things like rubber bullets. Is the umbrella used to surprise the one or people who don't know that police are armed?

4.The armored "tuk tuk" is equipped with a machine gun. Do you really need a web launcher in addition to that?

However he DOES have one good idea. He plans to make walking sticks which fire rubber bullets. I like this idea. When you run out of bullets, you can just whack people with the stick.

Shortly after Microsoft finished patenting ones and zeros, Microsoft decided to patent "The Smile" and "The Frown". By owning the rights to these two figures, Microsoft also owns the rights to the ":", the "-", the "(", and the ")" characters.

Microsoft intends to capitalize on their exclusive rights to the "-" character, and sue Linux users for using them in escape characters without paying tribute to Microsoft.

In addition, Microsoft plans to sue AOL for use of "The Smile", and estimates a total of 1 trillion dollars should be given back to Microsoft due to the approximately 1 thousand "Smiley things" which the average AOL user appears to use on a daily basis.

Also, Microsoft plans to sue all software which uses the "-" (AKA "The Nose") operator in their code without paying Microsoft.

World War III (for those not in the know, it hasn't started yet...) will probably involve much more powerful weapons than even the atomic bomb. Chances are this structure won't be able to withstand the force of this kind of weaponry.

And if it does still stand after a bomb, chances are no one in your 50 mile area will be alive to hear your ham radio station.
