With the XBox trying to dominate the console market, and Sony trying to break into the PC market with their own chips and systems, this bodes very badly for Microsoft. Sony could simply make Microsoft vanish literally overnight if they wanted to if they win this. Even if Microsoft gave them all 50 billion in their warchest to pay for it, Sony could STILL reap more money on their own without it.
Sega sold the most titles of 2002 on the GameCube system. Yes, even more than the PS2 where they release the most titles. Capcom as well. In fact most 3rd parties sell very decently on the Gamecube, moreso than the horrid XBox sales they've been seeing.
Also, worldwide, Gamecube is outselling XBox by a tiny margin again. XBox sales have dropped off as they dont have any decent titles to keep the love going. Ever take a look at Japanese sales?
Looks like Bill Gates might be sentenced for life. Windows comes with built-in file sharing. Some of the shares are even enabled after install on various flavors. There is no distinction here, either.. Windows is a software package just the same as Kazaa and Freenet.

If you've ever owned one before, you're going to kick yourself in the face when one of the parts breaks and takes the rest of it with it. There is no point. The DVD writer is a good idea, but id also like to have that seperate so when it dies my machine isn't crippled. Sending these things in for warranty repairs is going to take your entire world off line - F That!
So don't worry about it. As far as consoles go, XBox is terrible. It has about 2-3 games worth buying that aren't on the PC, and pretty soon they'll be on the PC regardless.
Conoles will stay consoles. They will be made to play purely games and nothing else. This is what people want to buy, and they're showing it with their pocketbooks right now. Look at how many dedicated gaming devices Sony and Nintendo have sold compared to Microsofts try-and-do-everything Box. The numbers speak for themselves.
Game Consoles are NOT meant to evolve, they're meant to PLAY GAMES. I don't want an all-in-one-do-everything-WebTV. That's what my PC is for, thats what my Tivo is for. When I buy a console, I want to PLAY GAMES, and that's it! Online games are just an extra feature, there isn't anything special about them, and it certainly doesn't add anything to gameplay unless the single player is horrible to begin with. Playing with friends on a console needs to be done on the living room floor NEXT TO EACH OTHER. Doing it over the cable modem makes it feel so PC like.. It just isn't fun.
And that's exactly what the Microsoft chimps are thinking right now. How the hell are they going to be able to sue someone if they dont even know where the hell it is? I mean, come on, who REALLY knows where Austria is that hasn't been there already? (Looks around) My point exactly. Hell, half the posters on here think its AUSTRAILIA.
The fiasco killed any respect I had for those tests. As a gamer, I only look for scores with games and apps themselves that I actually use and play, I will never, ever, trust some 3rd party blanket test that has been completely tarnished. Yes, people can cheat the FPS scores in games too, but if reviewers randomly test around 6-8 games, we'll end up with some really believable scores.

I can't believe you're comparing a product from Sony who continuously releases rushed and buggy products out the door to a game (EVE Online) that wanted to break the mold. You never even played the beta, yet you're adament that its bug free and complete.. PUHLEEEEEESE... You're going to kicking yourself when you boot this sucker up.
I would have to agree with this. Filter specific kids machines, and then have some machines for people 18 and over, and check for an ID before they use them.
Schools and Libraries are government funded, so there shouldn't be any reason why they aren't filtering this stuff. If people really want to look at their porn, they can do it at home. The internet is a great medium, but with it comes the bad, and a good deal of it is senseless porn popups and redirects that people have no control over. I would not want any kid to have to see something like goatse pop up on them and literally scar them for life. It's just not worth it. Yes, legit sites do get blocked, but that can be taken care of on a site to site basis.
DVD format is a standard, and to stay compatable, it must conform to those standards. If everyone starts doing their own thing and ignoring the standards, then they deserve to be ignored, not bought, made fun of, and dumped into the garbage.
Comparing Windows and Linux is not a good analogy. They're two totally different things. If Linux apps were SUPPOSED to run on Windows or the other way around out of the box (Please dont talk about Wine...), sure..
Self Destructing DVDs will simply not be bought unless the pricing ratio is well worth it. If rental places can offer then for $1 a rental that lasts 2 days, sure, thats something most people can afford. But if the price is static, then people wont bother. Everyone is used to buying DVDs for $15-20 that they can keep forever. Change that, and people wont bother buying. People just wont "give in" unless you give back, and with the DVD industry, the only way they can possibly give more is by lowering the price. Added features? Already got em.
Non-Destructing DVD and Audio has been mainstream too long for anything to sway it. If they dont work in certain players, people will avoid buying them, or will just find a pirated version that they are certain 100% will work on their system. People take the path of least resistance. This is one the companies will have to learn about.

For games that are released on all three systems, sales figures have been showing that most of the sales are on the GameCube platform. It's hard to believe the PS2 with nearly 3 times the user base is selling LESS than the Cube, but it's true. Of course, this is false for sports games, as Cube owners tend to dislike sports for some reason. Take a look at some of the last years sales figures from Sega, Capcom, etc..
MicroSoft seems to realise that they can no longer branch out as much as they had hoped. They will need to refocus their main money maker of Windows based products and offer it in a more competetive and cheap fashion. They'll most likely have to can the huge profit drains sometime soon as shareholders are sure to be getting anxious of seeing losses double every year (As with the dud of a console, XBox). If they trim the dead weight, they'll be able to start offering stuff cheaper instead of asking for more to cover un-needed losses. Byebye WebTV, MSN and Xbox.. They shouldn't have bothered to begin with..

Cripes already. No one even BOTHERS with #DMark anymore, and after this fiasco no one is ever going to bother with them again. Gamers will use REAL EVERYDAY GAMES to see what runs the fastest again. Looking at some goofy simulation app coming up with scores and people buying into the company and people tricking drivers for particular tests is just crappy and makes 3DMark 100% invalid to any of my concerns in the future. I will only trust reviews that benchmark the latest and greatest games that I will be buying these cards for, whoever can run them fastest at that particular time IS WHAT IM GOING TO BUY. Peroid. I'm 100% serious when I say that those wishing backlit screens have either never owned a backlit device and used it outdoors, or just dont care about lighting because they live in a dark cave irregardless.
Gamers only want ONE thing, GAMES. We dont want schnazzy crap all over the place. We want CHEAP and AFFORDABLE systems that play some really kickass games. Now that its discontinued, Sega could at least get some mindshare and a few more fans if they opened up some of their libs for it so it can truely become a legal open ended developement platform for all aspiring console coders to geek on.
