This is from the American Heratige Dictionary:
"Usage Note: The words ironic, irony, and ironically are sometimes used of events and circumstances that might better be described as simply "coincidental" or "improbable," in that they suggest no particular lessons about human vanity or folly. Thus 78 percent of the Usage Panel rejects the use of ironically in the sentence In 1969 Susie moved from Ithaca to California where she met her husband-to-be, who, ironically, also came from upstate New York. Some Panelists noted that this particular usage might be acceptable if Susie had in fact moved to California in order to find a husband, in which case the story could be taken as exemplifying the folly of supposing that we can know what fate has in store for us. By contrast, 73 percent accepted the sentence Ironically, even as the government was fulminating against American policy, American jeans and videocassettes were the hottest items in the stalls of the market, where the incongruity can be seen as an example of human inconsistency.
I'm not a grammar nazi, but most of the time when people use the word ironic, they really don't mean ironic. If you have ever listened to that famous Alanis Morissette song Ironic, not a single thing she points out is actually ironic, they are just coincidental.

Seriouly off topic but this reminded me of this: When Apple came out with the first PowerPC mac, they called it the PowerMac, as opposed to the regular Mac. That would make the manual that came with it the "Power PowerBook Book". . . never mind, I should stop drinking in the middle of the day. . . .

The point I intended to come across was that Bungie had a dedication to the Mac platform because that was where they got their start.

Bungie was one of the few Mac only game houses that produced good games for the mac all the way back to my first first person shooter, Marathon. Most people don't realize, but Halo was announced for the Mac. If you look here you can find links to the video of the premere of Halo for the mac at Macworld '99 New York. I was at that keynote when Steve Jobs introduced the 2 minute movie for Halo rendered using the game engine in real time, not pre recorded. I almost creamed my pants. I remember thinking to my self that this was the game that was finaly going to bring the Mac into the gaming arena. Even my PC using Mac bashing friend who I dragged with me was drooling over it. Alas, before it's Macintosh release, Microsoft bought out bungie and made them the "X-Box Development Team". That was a sad day for us Apple people all over. Bungie was known in the mac community as a top noch developer of mac games including one of our first first-person shooters, Marathon. At least you can still pick up the Bungie Mac Action Sack and try some of the awsome games this company once made for the macintosh.

It depends on the reseller. I had some pretty amazing experiences with the folks over at Tekserve. I purchased my TiBook from them and have had it serviced by both them, and the Apple Store, and can safely say that they both provided me with the same degree of service. If your located near NYC I would definitely recommend them to anyone. And if your a mac fan and in the area, I suggest just stopping by and having a look around. I always thought of them as The Apple Store before apple ever had one. From the second you walk in the front door and see the couch made out of old mac classics, to the random collection of obscure Apple related hardware, you know that your repair is in good hands.

Anyone remember the fiasco when they tried to let other companies put out Mac Clones in the 80s?
I remember when Apple did the clone thing for a while, but that was the mid to late 90's I saw a PowerComputing mac clone for the first time at the 1996 Macworld in Boston. PowerComputing was one of the largest and best known MacOS Clone companies, and sold them from 1995 to 1997. In 1997, Apple purchased PowerComputing's which included "the right to retain key employees with expertise in direct marketing, distribution, and engineering, Power Computing's customer database, and the license to distribute the MacOS."

The offical story line for their demise was said to be "inventory and support problems, divisions in management, and heavy capital losses" but it is also well known that PowerComouting repeatedly bit the hand that fed them. At the time, PowerComputing was producing clones that were faster than the ones Apple were making at the time. Their slogan was "Were fighting back for the Mac, Lets Kick Intel's Ass" They were also drawing away developers from apple because of this. As you can tell, Apple didn't like this, so they quickly put an end to this.

To this day, my PowerComputing Power Tower Pro 180 is functioning quite well. It has a G3 upgrade card in it from Sonnet Technologies bringing it up to 300mhz, and its even running OS X
