Well, some of us aren't Free freaks or anything like that, we just like to use free (as in beer) software that is stable and not laden with spyware/nagware/etc. For someone who is planning on not using Windows (even for gaming), reading the Hardware HOWTO at tldp.org, checking various discussionforums and otherresources, and then buying a nVidia card based on the number of questions/problems/complaints from other users would be the smart thing to do.
be easy enough to use a touch file somewhere that other processes could use to check to see if something they depend on is up and running properly yet. If it isn't there, sleep for a second or two and check again...
Don't forget that over half the property in Alachua County is owned by the state, which means no property taxes for public schools, etc. Which is why our gas prices are 8-10 cents higher per gallon than in Columbia county (next county north) or Marion county (next one south). Not being a Gator fan (or sports fan in general) I'd like to see some other creative ways to get some more tax $$ into the county coffers from those 80 thousand plus orange and blue fools that invade the town every other weekend from September thru November.
And like the other reply mentions (its at 1, change your preferences, he makes a few good points) all the money coming into UF due to the football program goes to fund *many* other things on campus.
Yeah, the college I worked at balked at the prices too, until I told them about the $50.edu price (workstation is $25)... Couldn't find anything on their website, but a email to the sales department took care of it.
Yup, and having a good football program and winning team brings millions into the local economy here in Gainesville every game weekend, not to mention the advertising dollars, alumni donations, etc.
Or move someplace that doesn't prohibit them. A Class III license is still obtainable, as are weapons (nothing new though). Both cost a lot, shooting 'em costs a lot more.
How about psdoom, or perhaps just some good ol' fragging in general. Also helps to get with coworkers who deal with the same lusers and comiserate. And, if you got a really bigtime luser with a decent attitude, you can always start the practical jokes. Although, if you follow this route, be sure that all will be taken in jest, and be open to some retaliation....
Why not take a stab at doing something 3d? I remember a web page a few years ago that told how to take 2 screen shots in Quake2, take the red out of one and the green out of the other (IIRC...), set some transparency, over lay them, and you end up with a stereoscopic 3d image - funky cardboard glasses required.
Because thats too hard for the VP of something or other, or the BGIC (big guy/gal in charge), to remember.
There are lots of changes a lot of us would like to make, for good reasons. And you get phone calls like "sorry, vp so and so always uses fifi for his password... gotta allow just 4, or he'll get pissed..." or something from one of his secretaries.
Hope you are using a mix instead of "normal" air... from what I remember about my scuba training (early 80s) is that normal air becomes lethal at extreme pressures, coincidentally around 300 feet...
Well, see, since it is front wheel drive it forces hte back end of the car down, which decreases traction up front, which means the drive wheels spin easier/faster - and isn't that what HP is about?
Now pardon me while I go teach some ricers about proper handling in the twisties with my wimpy 4 cylinder car...
Debian on my iMac is fine, and the install was no more masochistic than Debian on x86 type hardware. Why instead of OS X? Well, one, I got the iMac (its a DV model) for free, and no OS was on it.
Why am I using it? It draws less power, generates less heat, and takes less space as a server in my kid's closet, especially when compared to either of my other choices - a dual AMD rig (heat/noise problem) or a old Dell P-75 (heat/noise is ok, lacks processing power).
Porsche hasn't had a HP or top speed advantage for a long time. Heck, I know a few people who run SSCA events in 356s (75-90hp max from factory) and actually turn in better times than many much newer cars from many different manufacturers. Its all about the handling.
Unfortunately, that is the way quite a few F/OSS work. So the code gets written and fixed and worked on, but no one seems to want the "lowly" job of writing good clear documentation, and keeping it current with the current release of the software.
I don't mind RTFMing as long as the FM has been written and I can find it....

Most games will detect servers on the same subnet running on the default port(s).

Wonder how many geeks try to find a local LUG and run into the other kind of LUG...
... there is a sucker born every minute.
Similar to what caused the Y2K "problem" for many, only that was saving memory as opposed to bandwidth....
Type of waterfowl, sorta like a duck but different.

Sorry, should've googled before posting... well when we needed it, it wasn't on the site

Yup - in '92 or '93 I called IBM to find out about RAM for my original PS/2 286 system - they were happy to accomodate, at nearly $2000 per meg.
So who should I buy it from to count as a Linux sale?
(Haven't bought yet for that reason, and that I need a bigger/better video card)
If you'd like an all inclusive test of electrical, network, ventilation, and plumbing systems, I think this bastard could help to arrange something?

only you sometimes had to download kernel patches (which were generally open source, they just hadn't made it to the mainstream kernel).
Wouldn't a kernel patch, by definition, be open source?

Maybe they want to implement TCP/IP over bongo drums ?
