If I follow your logic, then if DooM3 sucks, then I fear a lot for Team Fortress 2, and my heart may skip a beat or two when we finally get Duke Nukem Forever.:p
You should not dismiss FP books as children books. The first book is more for 10-12 years old, but by now book five is pretty mature for a children book, countaining a lot of violence (well, if you consider it as a children book) and deals with subject matters rarelly used in children books like death and torture.
LOTR is highly creative, much more than HP, but HP is more fun. Characters are all interresting and make you laugh or make you sad. LOTR achieves that sometimes, but the emphasis in LOTR is more on plot in my own opinion.
I think a laptop would be much better in that case because for most of the users, having such a small computer (laptop) that can do the same thing as a tower + screen + keyboard combo is much better.
Most people don't upgrade so upgrade is pretty much a moot point.
I prefer laptops or desktop replacement over desktops. For my gaming needs, I buy a console. That's about the only reason to own a tower anyway. Unless you're into heavy video editing, you don't need the most blazingly fast computer out there.
it's not exactly what japanese usually mean when they say rpg Yeah, I'm aware of that. Sudeki, even though it sounds like a Japanese game, is in fact developed by a western company exclusively for the Xbox and is an american RPG, just like KOTOR is. My point was that these two american RPGs are great, but the system needs japanese RPGs. But Japanese developers don't see the need to make RPGs for the Xbox because no Japanese will buy them. So were only going to get american-styled RPGs for the Xbox.
... "proof" of what people are saying often on Slashdot : Japanese don't like non-Japanese games. That's why the Xbox will never pick up over there. It's a shame really, cause the Xbox could need a few RPGs like Disgaea. I love KOTOR and I'm looking forward to Sudeki, but I'd really like to see a game like Disgaea or Shadowhearts on the Xbox.
... what do they mean by TV resolution. I have a HDTV projector at home. Is this thing going to resample my videos streaming from my computer to 1080i? Or will it only do 480p or 525p like normal DVD players?
If it's not written ONLY FOR XBOX on the game, then it's not an exclusive. I have my copy of Splinter Cell here and it doesn't say ONLY FOR XBOX. It never was an exclusive. It was only released on the XBOX first, like so many crossplatform games come out on the PS2 a month or two before coming out for the Xbox or the GameCube.
Now, you could argue that Halo has ONLY FOR XBOX on it and it came out on the PC, but I think that 2 years exclusivity for a game is justifies the ONLY FOR XBOX because these days there are better FPSs people might want to play on their computer, it's not as if I was ripped of my money, since there are plenty of great games I can play on my Xbox that I can't play anywhere else like Amped, Project Gotham Racing (and the sequel which comes out this week), KOTOR (well, it just went gold last week, but hey, I've been playing this game since july and it's one of the best RPGs I ever played, and best SW game ever) and a few others.
Everyone knows that with enough alcool and some kinky music you can get anything to reproduce. They should have tried that years ago. It would have saved them so much time and money.
It's just that to the uninitiated, NASCAR seems a whole lot dumber than other sports. I mean, in the other sports, everyone know there are at least a certain set of rules, while in Nascar... I mean, apart for NEVER EVER MAKE A SHARP RIGHT TURN, and don't start the race before the others, and maybe some speed limit in the pit, there must not be many rules. Maybe a yellow and red flag like Formula one?
I should have read your post first. I didn't think someone would point the Jacques Villeneuve example too.:) I'll probably get modded 0 : redundant now.:p
For Formula One, Jacques Villeneuve once said a few years ago he used Microprose's Grand Prix 2 to refresh his memory before the race. The fact that NASCAR drivers say they are doing so doesn't mean they haven't been doing it for years.
Of course, Futurama is not the best cell shaded cartoon ever, what I meant is that cell shaded games still show that behind the cell shaded gimmick used to make it look like a cartoon are good old polygons, and it doesn't look like any cartoons or anime.
You should try Avant browser then. I'm looking right now at my "allow/block flash animations" on my toolbar, right next to the "allow/block pictures" and "allow/block popup" buttons. It's built on top of IE so it's pretty good and it has many features that I love about Mozilla like tabbed browsing. And it's free, though you are encouraged the first time you start it to donate a few bucks via PayPal to the author. I've been using it for a few months now and it works great.
Yes, cell shading has been done for a while in games, but the quality is nowhere near what you get in the Futurama cartoon. (ironically, the cellshading in the Futurama game pretty much sucks). In the Futurama cartoon, the cell shading is so good that you don't realize it's a 3D image. Games that use toonshading still have the blocky or polygonal look realistically shaded games have.
then give a mandatory Fun factor Gamespot has this in their rating system, it's called "Tilt". You can see how much tilt they give to a review after the point by point rating of the game in the score chart.
I think I've heard Matt Groening say in an interview that in fact Futurama is ALL 3D models with a toon shader. Notice the camera movement often describes an arc around something, especially in the brief scenes where they should Planet Express's headquarter. That and the ship are great examples to show that the 2D is in fact 3D.

Yes, a Secure and Verifiable Voting System, I've got one. It's called VOTING ON A FRIGGIN' PIECE OF PAPER!
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

A lot more, but for my electronic entertainment needs, that's enough.

This post has to be the very definition of sarcasm. :D

Maybe if Microsoft bought Square Enix....

It's mod this up if I'd have moderator points!!! :)
I don't even want to think who could be Persephone in that case!!! Cowboy Neal???

... in a time honored Metroid fashion, if you finish the game THAT fast, does she take off more than ther suit during the end credits? ;)

Maybe it's because I'm still thinking about The Matrix movies, but at first I read "Nokia taking over ZION to control Symbian".
I'd fact, no MMPORPG ever gets finished at all.
Because the machines had a 100+ million dollars budget to spend.
