    Its been going on for quite some time now.

    You use the illegal software, I don't see any reason why someone who's life work might involve *writing* said software would not want to catch you pirating/using is Illegally.

    I'n not all that sure how I feel about the users computer information being fired off in an email, but I have always considered that a possibility in the past. Seems like I was right.

    1) Do everything I need to do with messengers, with the glaring exception of run my webcam, i still have to disconnect Yahoo from Trillian and run it seperately to do that.

    Something about a different protocol they use for that traffic on yahoo. At least thats what I got from the FAQ.

    Still, I do agree. I have been using Trillian Pro for a few months now and I absolutely love it.

    (yeah . occasionally those off-line messages *do* take a couple extra days to catch up, but if it was important, they should have e-mailed me.)

    Plugins do rock muchly also.

    Okay, I'm somewhat confused. This seems to be widespread, but I (averaging about 500 spam per day according to SpamAssasin) have not seen one yet?

    Perhaps my host is filtering them at the server.

    Not bad, although I prefer to use a ribbon made of BLACK paper. As long as I am going to annoy the fax spammer, I am going to eat up as much toner/ink as I possibly can along with his paper.

    Oh thank god!

    I was truly starting to believe that I had hallucinated that entire show.

    Then about a year ago sci fi (or, the channel that used be actually *have* some sci fi on it) replayed the series in its entirety in one day. I taped the whole thing. Then lost the tape.

    So I asked around if anyone else had seen it.

    No one. Not a single person. So then I started thinking, ok, it was a flashback.

    Now I have proof! Someone else saw it!!!

    I miss that show. It was truly sad, but very cool for its day.

    Anyone remember StreetHawk ? (I think thats what it was called.) basically KnightRider on a souped-up motorcycle??

    Not my Sony PV120. It's been through hell. Two continents in a suitcase, a lighting strike that blew the monitor and the printer, a spilled Mt dew across the motherboard ect.

    I've used it for hardware experiments, I put a new motherboard in it for 6 months, and the old motherboard spent that six months, unprotected, in the trunk of my car. (I built a new tower for the new system, put the old motherboard back in, and it worked just fine).

    Its been frozen, wet, dropped, kicked, it survived this Desk Collapse and at one point in time I actually carried the processor around in my pocket for a day, then decided not to scrap it, put it back in the next day, and it is still working.

    6 years now. I've hot swapped drives, changed jumper settings just to see what did what(with the power still on) and really abused this system well beyond it's expected survival tolerance.

    It is truly a remarkable machine.

    Someone may have posted this already, I admit to being too lazy to check the whole thread.

    If you want to see what death in a vacuum would be like, go to your video store and rent "Event Horizon". It's not a bad movie, and they did quite a bit of research on a scene which portrays someone cycling through an airlock, and then being exposed to a vacuum for around 30 to 45 seconds.

    It's not a pretty thing. Imagine those "bleed out" ebola type deaths, just happening very quickly.

    I was talking about Heinlein novels with someone who did support for JPL, and the subject came up. He said that the representation in the movie is pretty accurate. (Unlike my spelling this evening)

    Black cars with no trim and a low profile are practically invisible to LIDAR not radar.

    Has something to do with finding a decent reflective surface to bounce the beam off of.

    (Another reason the Ohio Highway Gestapo mandates the use of front plates)

    I know this is off-topic, and I'll probably go to karma hell again, but there was a truly interesting story in Wired Magazine a couple months back about E-Gold

    It seems that more than a few people are concerned about the lack of a physical backing for currency, and are choosing to do something about it. It actually sounds like a good idea to me. Even if some of the people who are backing the idea seem a bit shady.

    This is not entirely true.

    Visa now requires (if you are processing a card without being able to swipe the actual plate) a zip code for the account holder as well as the card exp date.

    This catches alot of would be number swipers off guard. No zip, No charge. End of Line.

    Look. I'm sorry to dissapoint you, but life is terminal okay?

    Senseless slaughter is a tradgedy. War is tragic, but sometimes the end justifies it. My spelling is tragic.

    It is dissapointing that someone who rather obviously needed a good samaritan to pat him on the shoulder and say "Dude, you look like hell, and I just killed you six times in a row before you got a single shot in. Get some sleep. The game will still be here when you get back."

    It is NOT a tradgedy. It may be on a personal basis to those close to him. But not to the rest of the species.

    I'm not gonna start quoting George Carlin or anything, but people die. People kill people.

    The real tragedy comes when people die who never lived. (Not an abortion thing. Think Braveheart..)

    I've gone longer than that myself. And there are quite a few (scary as it is) truckers who do it on a regular basis.

    Folks on crystalmeth can go *literally* for more than 10 or 15 days without sleep.

    It is CERTAINLY not good for you, but 5 days without sleep will not kill a fairly healthy human. (ask any new parent!)

    Louis' droud only did that because he modded it to turn off after a certain period. He had noticed how much his health had gone downhill and decided to include a period of "daily maintinence" in his routine.

    Thats why he started his exercise routines etc, and kicked the Hindmosts' agents asses so quickly.

    Sorry, not trying to be picky, I just re-read "The Ringworld Engineers" for the umpteenth time last week.

    You know, I was sitting here pretty much thinking the same thing. I am also bipolar. However, because my psych was an idiot(or just did not care) I was essentially continually misdiagnosed for 5 years as having AD/HD.

    What do the usually prescribe for that? Anyone??

    Thats right kids... Amphetamines.

    And any decent central nervous system stimulant will (or can, but in my case did) induce a manic state. It was not uncommon at all for me to sit at my machine for 72 hours. Being awake for 100+ hours was also not uncommon at all.

    When unreal first came out I finished the game in one sitting. Mechwarrior2 (and Mech3) the same. 86 hours in one place doing one thing does not sound like a life threatening thing to me.

    Then again, when you are running manic for 100 hours at a pop, you don't really have a life to threaten. You think you do, and well, you actually may, but you are damned well not as productive as you might think you are.

    I'm all better now... Honest .. (looks at watch) . umm .. damn. Well... I'm getting better. I slept yesterday for awhile.

    Seems my body as gotten used to sleeping when it falls down. Always been nocturnal though.

    Ahhh .. Professor Julias Sumner Milner. Gods I used to love to watch that show. He screwed up more times than he got it right (although, looking back now, I suppose he did it intentionally)

    Loved the one where he splashed the liquid nitrogen on his rubber gloves. oopsies! kids, don't try this at home, now where did I leave that hammer?

    He is still (IMHO) the perfect "nutty professor/not exactly evil, but scary to leave alone" ... I always picture him when I read "He's a nice guy, I just would not want to see him working with sub-atomic particles"

    Actually, I read recently that he (the balloon+lawnchair= WHY DID I DO THIS?? guy) did finally do himself in. The old fashioned way. (gun to the head or something like that, I do not recall the details). So, in a nitpicky sort of way, he is now eligible for the darwin award he so richly deserved.

    I said was was going almost 140. And at those speeds, unless its an emergency, you don't take your eyes of the road for a second. I knew I was over 100, and after that, you watch the road and drive it by feel, you don't look at your speedometer. I dunno about you, but I can tell you within 5-10 mph how fast I am going just by the sound the engine makes v/s what gear I am in. Thats most likely because I have had the same car for almost 10 years now.

    yes, its faster than i should have been going okay? but damn.. its not like I was putting anyone but myself in danger, there were NO other cars (well .. besides that cop). Thats why he lowered the speed on the ticket. And well, it was still $400 bucks after all was said and done. Thank god it did not show up on my record, or my insurance would be considerably higher than it is as well.
