  1. Re:I hate iTunes on Apple Cuts Off Linux iPod Users · · Score: 1

Me too... I owned a 30GB Ipod for about 1 week (the time they allowed me to test it and return it without any issues). The totally insane way it operates drove me nuts. I wanted to be able to use the Ipod to browse the filesystem where I'd keep all my files (some MP3's, some photos, some text files). Alas, the Ipod has a dichotomy: it either works as a media player or as a storage device, the two cannot talk to each other without having to do a lot of hacking. Sorry, I'm not interested in wasting my time to make the stupid Ipod work the way it should...

Possible scenario: the sleep function didn't work under Linux, so he just left the lid closed with the laptop running. The excess heat, over the course of many (5) months, weakened the plastic case, causing it to crack. So actually, Linux is to blame. Well, what do you know. I had a winxp laptop suddenly wake up while it was secure inside a padded bag (= in a good thermal insulator. It ran all the way until the battery discharged itself. When I opened the bag a couple of hours later it was *HOT*. I probably lost 1/2 of the battery life right there (and was lucky the thing did not catch fire or explode). Windows sucks!

Sure, the bad guys are being nasty but the law in this case is clearly on their side.

You must be joking! My round trip commute by bicycle is 23 km and it takes me about 30 minutes going and 25 coming back. I do arrive a bit sweaty, but you can: a) bring some baby wipes and/or paper towels, and b) a clean shirt in your bag. Besides, if you do the 3 km in about 20 minutes you will not break a sweat... Go to work early in the morning before it gets too hot (and I live in the midwest, it does get hot and humid, but it is not so bad before 8 am). Coming back in the afternoon I give it all (and get a shower as soon as I get home drenched...).

  12. Here starts the end of the American empire on Bush Commutes Libby's Sentence · · Score: 1

This is the beginning of the end. Here's the evidence: 1) We now have a supreme court willing to overturn decades old precedents on a 5-4 majority just because they can do it. Maybe at some point the 5-4 goes the other way and we'll start seeing overturning precedents at will. This represents the end of judicial independence and a modicus of stability of the laws at the highest level. 2) We have an executive branch that believes it has imperial powers and can do whatever it wants, whenever it wants, regardless of the actual law and regardless of ethics or morals of any kind. 3) This added to the lack of consideration for science and empirical evidence (intelligent design, manipulation of EPA data on all grounds, etc) and a populace who is as ignorant as any since the dark ages. What can I say... in 50 years we'll be the subjects of the Chinese empire, I guess. Considering the organization of their government there is very little to hope for. I guess we'll be back to the dark ages for perhaps a century or two before things improve (hopefully) for future generations. This is sad, very sad.
