Banned for violating the rules with his programmable keyboard. They outright told him that; he was interacting with his environment in an unattended manner. That's a violation of the TOS for every MMORPG I've ever read the TOS for, which admittedly isn't many.
The best part is that the guy wraps himself in the I'm-being-persecuted-for-running-Linux flag, which he knows will raise the ire of many the WoW player. If he was playing the game unattended and got caught, he deserves to be banned, and if he finds fighting low level mobs to raise his skills so boring, maybe he should find another way to spend his time.
Its been a while since I've played WoW. Can Trolls be Priests?
Wow! They have it so much worse than those Kinko's guys... Someone should make a socially aware game that highlights the tribulations of being a Google head and working for such a pittance. I'm sure it would be eye opening!
How can these iPod's be listed as 'New' when they've been filled with music and such already? When I see 'new', I expect to get a nice unopened, shrinkwrapped item. Couldn't the RIAAA go after them for false advertising as well?
Considering the Family Guy is one of the funniest most intellectually humorous shows EVER
What??? I say this as a Family Guy fan, but there is no way that show can be considered intellectually humorous. True enjoyment does require a broad knowledge of pop culture (especially from the 80's), and a healthy appreciation of fart jokes, but intellectual? Futurama is intellectual. Family Guy... not so much.
Intellectually??? I do not think it means what you think it means...
Yes, because when you turn that copy of "Wired" on its side and three more leaves of the centerfold flip down, people will automatically assume, "Sure, he's just looking at a large wiring diagram."
In fact, our attach ratio of games and accessories to date has never been higher for any release in GameStop's history.
Didn't Microsoft mandate that retailers could only sell the 360 for pre-order as part of package deals with a certain number of accessories and games required to be purchased along side the console? Of course the attach ratio would be so high then...
I can do nothing but agree with everything you've said, except I moved from SWG to WoW. I've actually resubscribed to SWG to check out the new changes, and I was amazed to visit the Coronet staport today and find no one there! I can't believe how rapidly this game has gone downhill.
Why dont you SWG folks just go ahead and come on over and play some WoW.
I did. I cancelled my SWG account back in July and two days later picked up WoW. Made it to level 25 Tauren Hunter before I got bored with running all the quests. WoW is pretty and there's lots of people around, but the things I like about SWG weren't there.
I liked that in SWG, the majority of your items had to be purchased from other players. I liked that in SWG, you could have a house to display your goods, and to return to as a base of operations at the end of the day. I liked hanging out in my Player City with my guild. I liked that the seemingly unlimited nature of the character creation in SWG. I liked that in SWG, you could virtually go anywhere at any time.
WoW is a very pretty game, and I liked how when you would travel between points you had to fly on the back of a creature. I liked the PVP in WoW (or at least the Battlegrounds - Alterac Valley, I think). PVP usually isn't my cup of tea, but I enjoyed that. The quests were certainly
In SWG, I always felt like there was something else for me to do if I got bored with whatever I was doing at the moment. If I didn't want to fight stuff, I could go try to tame a pet. I could go exploring to get another badge. I could go hunting for that last item for my lootkit. I could play around in space. I just felt that WoW, while it excelled at what it did offer, didn't have the same breadth as the SWG universe did, and it bored me. Unfortunately, anyone who liked those aspects of SWG will not be appeased by WoW. And I'm still looking for a game to do that.
Can we have the name and contact information of the person who was responsible for the decision to withhold the release of information about the NGE until after the release of the Trials of Obi Wan expansion pack? I'm not saying I care what excuse that person will provide, but someone had to make that decision and I'd like to know who was accountable.
Galaxies was, by all accounts, a pretty appaling MMORPG when it was launched, but it was reasonably successful due to the franchise drawing in fans of other SW games and has survived long enough to develop into something worth playing.
Be patient. In six months SOE will scrap the combat system again and then the game will be just as appalling as it used to be, if not moreso...
You really picked a bad topic/game to make a point about how games are combat centric.
Not at all. SWG had an economy and politics, as well as an awesome crafting system and even entertainer professions, and nobody cared! All you hear people bitching about was the combat, and THAT'S what the devs focused on. Part of the problem is that Star Wars, based on the movies, should have a large combat quotient -- to that extent, I'm sure there are plenty of people who would have loved to try the non-combat aspects of the game, and didn't ever consider this game because they saw a wookiee on the box cover. Maybe the problem is that those people are the minority, and its much more profitable to court the combat-cravers than it is those who want something different. Which is a shame, because that minority will now have nowhere to go.
The first CU taught me that sometimes you have to ignore everyone bitching about the change to make a better game. Once you got past the fact that certain people were screwed by the CU, it was easy to see that combat had improved. (Of course, the best part of the first CU was that when I finally did get fed up with SOE and cancelled my subscription, I already had an understanding of how to play WoW.)
Also, since they've already been losing people, why not completely gut the system and rebuild it? It can't hurt anymore than it already is; they can only gain subscriptions at this point.
If there's anyone I feel bad for, its the people that have stuck with the game since launch. This is now the second time they've had the rug pulled out from under them. "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice... we won't get fooled again" notwithstanding, Sony REALLY bit them in the ass by launching the newest expansion in the last week, and NOW revealing what is going on. How many people purchased that expansion only to find out that they won't be able to use it like they thought in the upcoming game? That's quite the low blow.
Despite all that, I was about due to resubscribe to SWG to keep my character 'alive' and check up on the state of the game. I doubt I'll play for more than a month, but this certainly sounds like an interesting month to check in.
Its a shame that a game with such promise as SWG is being run by such clueles asshats as they have at SOE (and apparently LucasArts, as well.)
I'm a Lost fan, but I missed last week's episode because I moved and my Tivo was offline. How do I catch-up?
Lucky for you: last week was a rerun. So is this week. Next week is the next new ep.
On a sidenote, can you take generic mpegs and play them on your iPod, or does it have to be stuff only purchased through the iPod store? I have some anime fansubs I'd like to watch, but on my tv and not my computer. Assuming they are in the right format, would it be possible to import them to a video iPod and play them from there?
Now, now. The article sucked, but don't go criticizing them for no good reason. You're right that gross profit will be higher, but you've got to subtract costs. Figure each of those games cost $50, and then you get revenues of $75 million and $400 million. Subtract the alleged production costs, and you're left with profits of $71 million and $380 million.
Okay... that's still a big difference. That's why all they said was $71 million would be "serious bank". They didn't say that you could make more that way. Plus, they said you could spend the initial $20 million investment on five games, so comparable profits would be $356 million and $380 million. Again, still serious bank, but not as high a return.
I just spent way too long thinking about hypothetical numbers for no good reason, didn't I?
Erm... the DS is Nintendo's "entry" into the handheld market??? I've got a 15 year old gameboy that says otherwise. (Hell, didn't the old Game & Watches even precede that?)
Well, if the category is about a discussion of Your Rights Online, does that also mean you can't discuss what you aren't allowed to do online, like write viruses, and the resulting consequences of such actions? I'll admit, this isn't a great category heading, but as pointed out, where else does it fit?

Per yesterday's Dilbert, its just that the internet is now full.

I don't understand the point of the article. I've never had any backhoe probl%^%@13#^$3@#$*^&^NO CARRIER
Doesn't this mean that the Dreamcast was the first and last console released for the current (pre-360) generation?
The link in the story is wrong. Go to http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/13.12/neopets.h tml
I want my E=mc^360
So where's the episode where we find out that the CSI's are inspired to do what they do because they play the CSI: Miami video game?

BALLMER: Where is Clippy? Is he safe, is he all right?
GATES: I'm afraid he died. ... it seems in your anger, you killed him.
BALLMER: I couldn't have! He was alive! I felt him! He was alive! It's impossible! NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
