That statement is a generalization. American's don't *all* believe that smaller governments are intrinsically better any more than all Europeans believe that government is a way of helping people. Maybe *you* do, but there's 220 million people in here. (Not saying whether I agree or disagree, but at least I recognize that the two positions both have their strengths and weaknesses.)
Yeah, it's so unfair that people want to get paid for things they've put years of work into. Everyone should just give you whatever you want for free. That makes much more sense.
Doom 3 will definitely be coming to X (remember when Carmack demoed it on a GF3 on a Mac a few years ago?) DE2 has maybe a 75% chance of coming to the Mac, seeing as DE1 did and the Unreal engine has already been ported several times for other games.
There's one more factor I'm sure studios will be paying attention to: Isn't it more difficult to videotape a movie being played back at a nonstandard frame rate?
"IBM's Unix license is irrevocable, perpetual and fully paid up. It cannot be terminated. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It does not feel pity, remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead."
Also, Apple probably won't make the jump straight to SATA like they did with USB. The current speedholes G4s ship with one ATA-100 channel (or is it 133 now?) and one ATA-66 channel.
So the Chinese, Africans and Russians raise their price... Once the cost of switching countries is no longer a barrier to doing so, the prices will equalize everywhere. Unfortunately for us unemployed folks, this will take decades.

The difference in voltage between the two terminals is of magnitude 48 but the current is flowing in the reverse direction from "normal". If you attached a voltmeter, it would read -48 (attach it backwards and it will read 48...)

This problem is easily removed by making the plugs incompatible.
If they can be externally powered (like RFID chips on a larger scale), and use solid-state technology that, as greenpeace loves to point out, is not biodegradable, then they can probably last for quite a while.
What will happen to the "magic bullet" of offshoring when the Indian programmers realize they are being paid half of what the American programmers are? Moving resources into another country will only go on so long as it's profitable; sooner or later there will be a break-even point, it will no longer be advantageous to do so, and the jobs will stay in America.
You should interpret them as "Made months before the Mac IE decision even came up". Remember that this is a print magazine we are talking about, and that not everyone at MS fits the "greedy amoral bastard" stereotype.
Let me amend my statement: 90% of the features plus a contract programmer plus a month is not equal to 100% of the features. The ability to edit the source code is vastly overrated to everyone except slashdot readers.
To paraphrase another poster, a tool that does 90% of what you need it to do is no substitute for a tool that does 100% of what you need it to do. Choose the software that best performs the task, as evaluated by you. And having control over software is no substitute for the remaining 10%, if you need it immediately.
Actually, he does have a point: If the entire library of Congress had been shelved in global alphabetical order, it would be easy to find the book. However, IP is not based on any ordering, it's an arbitrary mapping of IP addresses to physical routes (and then you add things like BGP). If some of the basic assumptions were changed, and it became possible to "deduce" the address of a host rather than look it up, this pipe dream becomes (slightly) more feasible. Not that this will actually happen in a million years...
The only way to be completely faithful to the books would be to make the movies 48 hours long each. Plus there are some things you can do in text that simply do not work in movies, like explaining large amounts of world history.

How many of your "crises" have cost hundreds of lives around the world?
What do you propose we do about the 5000 children? Mail our paychecks to Ethiopia?
Huh? It plays fine in my Xbox.

You mean 2010. And hopefully this mission won't end the same way Tsien did...
Sell the Xbox, put the proceeds towards the GC. If you hardly play either of them you won't care which one you actually own.

If a device calibrated to detect seismic events picked it up, that was one hell of an accident...

You don't *have* to learn Objective-C. You can still use the C/C++ Carbon API, which is much more "traditional".
The last "space race" got us to the moon with 1960's-era technology. Maybe another one today is just the kick in the ass NASA needs.
