You probably came closest to my intent. I think Linux is popular not only because people want an alternative OS but they also want something not MS. It's like rooting against the Yankees just because they're the Yankees. Linux has qualities to rally around, but there also needs to be a reason to rally around it. I think MS provided that reason.

Vista is a disaster? Don't buy into the anti-MS hype. At home we've got Vista on 3 computers - a laptop (preinstalled), a desktop (upgraded from XP), and a homebuilt (running Vista 64). We haven't had a single problem on any of the machines, and they play fine on the network with an XP laptop. Speed hasn't been an issue either, even on the older hardware (HT chip, not dual or quad core).

Just to confirm your thought that I'm an evil moron, I also have parental controls enabled on the kids' computer (yes, 1 computer, 3 kids).

I eventually did get another, cleaned it up and it sits proudly in my basement.

I also still have my 800, a couple of drives (one of them Happy-enhanced), 850 interface, 300 baud modem (like I have anywhere to call), disks galore, and a little color TV to connect it too.

I guess some would argue that because they're thumb operated they don't count as joysticks (the article refers to them as "thumbsticks"). I disagree with that. We had an Atari 2600 30 years ago (actually, I still have it) and when I played it I'd hold the controller so my right thumb would be on top of the stick (the way thumbsticks are used today) and my left thumb would press the fire button. Since those sticks were just 8 way digital sticks you didn't need the fine control that the analog sticks take today.

As far as I'm concerned, as long as there's a version of Robotron 2084 out there, there will be a need for joysticks. Now please excuse me while I chase some kids off my lawn.
